Im not from Texas and have traveled to Florida, Arizona, Indiana and Michigan. Comparing Christus Spohn shoreline to others in the US, this place is the pits. They dont try to make patients and their families comfortable. It looks like they go out of their way for staff more then anything else. Parking is at a minimum, but they dont seem to care if patients are able to get here or not. It is rundown and old. We were in the heart Cath Lab and there wasnt an employee at the desk to check in. You had printed instructions to pick up the phone and call in to someone. That shows a lack of staff. That scares me. Does that mean a lack of nurses and aides in the cath lab? The waiting area is uncomfortable and dirty with no snacks allowed. Then how is it dirty? There is no cafeteria in the building. There was a vending machine with drinks and snacks on the 2nd floor. The cafeteria is across the street but it wasnt open until after 11:00am. No consideration for patients or families who might be sitting here all morning for an emergency over night. Dont bring anything of value to this hospital. With a lack of staff, I can see how valuables would get stolen. If you are able to drive north to San Antonio or Houston, there is better health care. And its only 2 to 3 hours away. We found this hospital inconsiderate and uncaring to patients and their families with a lack of parking and amenities. They are building more to the hospital, but no parking ramp is in the works. We think this place is too far behind the times of other medical facilities.

Went in for an infected wound that seemed to be spreading to the rest of my body. Scared and worried sick as Im 4 and a half months pregnant, I chose Christus Spohn - shoreline and Im glad I did. This place gave me the fastest emergency room care Id ever witnessed. Signed in and within 10 mins, I was able to see a doctor. One look and he knew exactly what he was seeing. Diagnosed me with cellulitis, told me in a very detailed fashion of what to do and what not to do when dealing with this kind of infection, took account of the fact that I was pregnant and told me he would be prescribing me an antibiotic that would be safe for me and my baby. Both the doctor and his assistant were very nice and polite people. Went back out to the waiting room, another 5 mins pass by and I get my insurance information taken. Go back out to waiting room and another 10-15 mins pass and an RN calls me in to be discharged. Also like the rest of the staff, he was very polite and conversed with me about my prescription and if I had any concerns to come back right away. Of course this experience may not be the same for everyone depending on the circumstances. This was on Labor day weekend around 2pm with only about 10-15 other people in the ER. People being impatient and non-compliant were of course getting a different kind of hospital experience from the staff than I was. But regarding my time here and my personal experience, it went as smooth as possible.

We have been in the ER for 8.5 hours now and are STILL waiting to see a doctor. We initially saw one upon admittance but have not seen one since. They did not check my mothers medication, disregarded her history of pulmonary emboli, and have only done an abdominal CT which is completely unrelated to her oxygen level of 88. I have NEVER written a review of any kind for an institution. My mother, who has Parkinsons, has had oxygen in her nose this entire time and only twice have they come to check on her. The CT was run 6 hours ago and we still have to wait for the results. She has developed a dry cough because they instructed us to not give any water. My father went to ask if we could speak with a doctor and they didnt know who the doctor was. All they could say is your doctor left hours ago. This is unbelievable. I dont want to forget to mention that nobody has answered our call light for over an hour. This is not an exaggeration. This place is where hope comes to die. Dont let the loving message of Jesus on the wall fool you.

The doctor stormed into my mothers room this evening threatening to discharge her if she (or I) did not sign the consent to move her to another unit within the hospital. When I quizzed why all the doctor or case worker would say is that "We cant do this forever!" And "She (my mom) will receive the same care in the new unit as she is receiving here." The new unit has a cutoff of maximum 30 days, so when I asked what comes after that if she still needs medical attention, I could not get a garauntee that would happen. My mother is dealing with a life threatening disease that is going to require long term care. There are a lot more details that Im not disclosing now (such as names of one particular physician), but thats not to say I will not update this review after some time has passed. Being "forced" to sign a consent is not truly a consent. Making threats to a patient or a daughter is absolutely illegal. The added stress on top of her illness is completely unnecessary.

First of all, Hated It, is an understatement. If I told you how I really felt about the staff and how they treated my mother Id probably go to jail. Not only did the staff make false, bogus statements to the DR and made mothers life a living hell during her stay, but they intentionally did not call in for her pain medication ( she just had hip surgery a week ago !!!!!) Knowing she would be released tonight. So we gotta, take the prescription up to the pharmacy in the morning and hopefully they can get it filled by tomorrow evening. So she is going to have a very long night and tomorrow. When she asked them to call it in , they refused to do so and told her she just wanted to stay doped up. Really, who the hell does the hiring in this place!!!! I have more, but Im saving my breath and energy for a few gov. Agencies who are going to hear about this tomorrow!!!!!

If you are military and have TRICARE, do your self a favor and bypass this hospital system. I have TRICARE Prime, and TRICARE paid for outpatient surgery. This hospital took it upon themselves to continue billing us, and threatened to take us to collections. It took 3 months for this Hospital to figure out they were filing the insurance wrong, and then acted like it was our fault. TRICARE paid promptly once the hospital figured our thier incompetent business office was filing the wrong information. Their phone system is terrible, and will hang up on you for no reason. Their Customer service representatives constantly push you to other departments who have no idea how to help you. They send threatening billing statements and then act like such nice people on the phone when you actually do get a live human to speak with. If you have TRICARE go somehwere else!

A sister had cervical surgery that required an overnight stay. The doctors were terrific. They explained the procedure thoroughly with a wonderful bedside manner. The staff did their job conscientiously. What I was surprised with that when it was time to leave, the person that was supposed to escort her to the vehicle told her she wasnt going to take her in a wheelchair for her to walk. So when I saw her walking out of the hospital alone, carrying her bag, I was dumbfounded and angry. I could not believe a patient at Spohn Hospital would be treated like this. I have accompanied many sisters at different hospitals when they have had procedures and this is the first time I have witnessed such disregard for a patient.
