I had to bring my cat in for a routine exam. Hes a little overweight, so I wanted to know what to do to get his weight down. Id seen Dr. Handke and he sort of joked that one of his cats is a little overweight as well, which was nice since I was expecting to be chewed out!, but I didnt really get a plan on what to do to help out my cat. Obviously I should play with him more, but what about feeding him? Prices seem to be okay compared to others, though it stinks to be paying almost $50 to walk in the door and feel like youre a bit rushed through the appointment. They do push the prescription diets a bit more than I was comfortable with. Ive heard stories about how Science Diet prescription dry foods are filled with fillers and things that cats dont need to eat. Id enjoy seeing some grain-free/byproduct free options as well. There were a few cases of natural cat foods on a bottom rack in the waiting room, where they have a lot of their cat (and dog) foods. When I inquired, I was told the foods on the bottom rack were for the office manager. Maybe try selling some natural cat foods alongside the prescription ones. All in all, Ive been going here for a long time, when Dr. Babick was the owner. The décor hasnt changed at all, save for the front reception desk. Its nice, to me, because I like the old-time feel. Im a sucker for nostalgia! However, they dont have all of the top notch equipment and you might be referred elsewhere for more high-end tests and /or treatments. My biggest gripe is that they will push AVETS and PVSEC as THE number one ER vets to go to. However, PLEASE shop around! I found that there were a high number of complaints and gripes with those two; mainly unnecessary treatments, extremely high bills that surpassed estimates, and lack of sympathy if a pet were to die from treatments/whatever the emergency was. I went to the VCA Northview ER on Siebert road in Ross township when I had a cat emergency. Its right off of McKnight road where Ross Park Mall is at, but before it if youre coming from downtown. Its a really great ER vet service with friendly staff and the lowest ER walk-in fee in Pittsburgh. I very highly recommend them! But DO look at their location on Google maps before going. It can be a little awkward to find them in the dark, especially if youre already distraught over your pet. Give this place a go if youre in Greenfield/Squirrel Hill. The staff is super friendly, and that includes the vets. However keep a few things in mind: -Not to sound rude, but know the hours and dont think that theyll keep the door open for you. I saw a review about a couple that drove an hour to visit and Greenfield vet was closed. Sorry, but if youre driving from an hour away, maybe try a vet closer to you. -Its a small, outdated (to most people) in their décor clinic. -You might get there on time, but you might wait a while in the reception area, and then you might wait a while in the exam room after you get in there. You might be seen by a vet tech right away, but you might wait a while after the vet tech leaves and says "Dr. _____ will be right in." Trust me, that vet will more than likely NOT be right in! Ive waited as long as nearly a half an hour before being seen. Being that Ive experienced that with my own doctor, I wasnt too mad, but I was getting a bit ticked. -They dont do time payments. Itd be nice, but Ive never found a vet who does that. -You can say no to vaccines. I did this for one of my pets who I knew was under the weather. The vet didnt have a problem with that. -Dont let them get pushy. They may try to push a flea spray or collar your way if you say you have a flea problem. Dont be afraid to say no thanks. They wont bite your head off! Ive been going there for a while and I havent had any huge problems, thank God and knock on wood. If I ever did, Id try the VCA Northview, which is a normal vet in addition to being an ER vet. Theres also a cats only vet in Shadyside, though the parking situation looks a bit iffy. Hope this helps!

This is the absolute worst vet I have ever been to - I will never again bring my cat here. After reading many positive reviews, I was hopeful that this experience would help me find a new long-term vet. I came this past Monday to the walk-in clinic, and the front desk staff were so friendly and helpful - it seemed like a good start. I arrived right at 2pm, and only had a short wait (maybe 5 minutes) to be seen back into an exam room (although the wait was much longer when I left around 3:30pm- about an hour). After reading many positive reviews, I was hopeful that this experience would help me find a new long-term vet. I arrived right at 2pm, and only had a short wait (maybe 5 minutes) to be seen back into an exam room (although the wait was much longer when I left around 3:30pm- about an hour). After a positive beginning to this experience, it all went steeply downhill as soon as Dr. Winnie came in for a consultation. I brought my cat in for her annual exam, and because I treated her for fleas the week prior and I wanted him to check on her condition. The doctor was very pushy and condescending from the start; His tone was insincere and rude, and he was very obvious about being in a rush (probably due to it being the walk-in clinic hours, but still...). My cats records were being faxed over from previous vets, and I was waiting to hear if she needed any vaccination; As we were talking, Dr. Winnie injected my cat without confirming - or at least verbalizing - that she needed vaccinations. Then, he attempted to quickly leave the room without even talking about her state of health (the annual exam I came in for). When I asked how she looked, he simply said she was overweight and didnt offer any advice or further information without being asked. It seemed like from the start the doctor and the nurses were just trying to push products - whether it be vaccinations, flea medication, new brands of food, or flea home treatment - rather than listening to my concerns and actually checking out my cat. He seemed offended when I declined his suggestion to purchase two more flea medications to use simultaneously as well as a third flea product to treat my cats reaction to the fleas - even though her fleas were successfully treated only a few days prior. Due to his insincerity, poor communication, and the fact that he rushed through my cats exam, I will not be coming back.

Ive been taking my cats, my dog, and even past boyfriends dogs here for years! Dr. Winnie is excellent! Ive seen a couple reviews on here commenting on the Docs personality, and Ill admit it, he isnt very personable. He is nice, dont get me wrong, hes just not into chit chat. But he is GREAT with pets! My favorite experience with the doc was when I brought in my cat who just had surgery for a blocked urinary tract (I wouldve brought him to Greenfield Vet for the surgery if it hadnt been 10pm!). My cat was still having some urinary issues, so of course I asked Dr. Winnie how long it would take for him to get better. Instead of just giving me an estimate, he pulled out a book and opened the page to the pic that showed the insides of a cat. He explained exactly what my cat was going through, where in his body it was happening, and gave me a realistic timeframe for when he would be back to normal. My questions were all answered in such a way that I did not feel rushed. He gave me straight answers, even giving me the bad (that my cats kidneys had been damaged due to the blockage) and really took the time to sit down with me. I was so distraught when I got there (the surgery had been hard on me and my baby Kitten) but I left feeling that the worst was over and it was only uphill from there. I felt armed with knowledge and optomistic for the future. The staff are all very friendly. They make me feel welcome and important. I actually enjoy the simpleness of the decor. There is even wood panelling! Most vet offices feel like hospitals to me, which I really dont like! I know this is getting long but I have one more thing to add. Greenfield Vet really does NOT try to rope you into unnecessary charges. Ive NEVER in my LIFE been able to get out of the vet office for under $100! NEVER! But it has happened to me at this vet. Ill never go anywhere else! Also, they have great hours! And even a walk-in evening! Love it!
