I did animal rescue for years, and have been to countless veterinary clinics. By this time, I know quality and results when I see it. The Charleston Veterinary Referral Center is absolutely top notch. I took my best buddy, Pebbles, there for diagnosis of a neurological problem and he subsequently had spinal surgery. Of course, this is not an inexpensive exercise, nor did I expect it to be. However, this dog is very, very special to me and I wanted the best for him. And boy, did I get it. Absolutely superb veterinarians and staff. Dr. Crook, who was Pebbles primary veterinarian, was just outstanding. The diagnostic procedure was thorough and definitive. She and all the other staff were WONDERFUL in dealing with Pebbles and understanding his little idiosyncrasies and anxiety. He ultimately had surgery, which was stressful for both him and me. A great thing about this clinic is that you can call day or night, and someone is always willing to talk with you and give you a thorough update. Pebbles is home now and is slowly on the road to recovery. Ive talked several times with Dr. Crook about his status, and she is just as responsive as when he was hospitalized. I decided to give my little guy the best chance possible to recover from a debilitating condition, and I am 100 percent satisfied that I went to the right place. P.S. For whatever its worth, I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to see someone.

Not that losing a pet could ever be a positive experience, but the staff at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center were hands down, SO amazing. Unfortunately our family cat was recently sickened with an irreversible illness. The special care and kindness CVRC took in handling our situation and communicating with us was better than that of which any pet owner could have wanted or needed in such a sad situation. That was my first experience with this particular veterinary practice but it was very obvious how much their staff members genuinely care for the animals that theyre trusted with. Thank you, to all of the Vet techs and doctors at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center, for easing the pain and tragedy of having to put our sweet cat down, and thank you for giving pet owners all over Charleston reassurance that there are in fact sincere, caring Vet. doctors not just at our service but by our side; doctors whom are educated and passionate about caring for our pets. They even mailed my mother and me a hand-written sympathy card consoling us for our difficult loss. I couldnt be more grateful for your kindness and genuine service, thank you times a million!!

Over the course of a Saturday afternoon and evening, my cats health really fell apart and she got very sick. By the time I felt I needed to have her seen, normal vets were closed for the day. I called the Charleston Veterinary Referral/Pet Hospital center at 8:40pm and asked how long the wait was. They said not too long and to bring my cat in. The whole experience was a very good one. Every person I interacted with there was incredibly kind and informative--from the woman behind the front desk to the vet tech and veterinarian. My cat received expert care and the whole visit took only about an hour to hour and a half at tops ,and that was with a full animal hospital. The vet was wonderful in explaining what she thought was happening with my cat and why, and provided me with 3 different treatment plans. After my cat was treated and we got home, she was MUCH better. She was burning up with a high fever, sneezing constantly, throwing up, didnt want to move, and could barely open her eyes when we left and was 90% back to normal when we got home! Pets and their owners are in very good hands at Charleston Veterinary Referal Center/Pet Hospital

Was referred here by my vet for a ultrasound on my pet. I made a 1:00 appointment, upon arriving at 12:30 I signed in and sat with my pet to wait. After 1 hour they called us to a exam room to evaluate my pet which I didnt need since I was only here to have a ultrasound , they told me I needed all this blood work and would be back with a estimate, the tech came in with a 715.00 estimate for blood work and ultrasound. After telling them I didnt want it just the ultrasound they made me wait another 30 minutes. After 2 hours finally got the ultrasound, I started asking questions which I feel like I got no answers to except to pay the 415.00 bill at the counter and we will release your pet, release my pet? Really!! Then was told that they would email me the results which I havent received. I paid the bill and upon the card being swiped the tech called back and said shes all paid you can release her dog!!! This place is a money pit!!!! They act as if your animal is vehicle in a mechanic shop. Never putting my foot back in this place and if your smart you wont either. Find a emergency vet that cares about the animal not the money!

Absolutely the best veterinary clinic in Charleston. I have an older dog and they have saved her life twice in the past year (once from cancer, then severe pancreatitis). The doctors, team & technology are outstanding. They will talk through treatment options and are very caring and supportive. The oncologist, Dr. Rissetto, would actually email me directly to check on my dog. So grateful got her. I never felt pushed toward anything, but rather guided to understand the options and best treatment course for my dog. When my dog was very sick with pancreatitis I was allowed to go into the main treatment room in the back to visit with her one night. I was taken back at the level of intensity and seriousness. Everyone was so focused and dedicated to what they were doing. It was the equivalent of a human ICU (but maybe better, haha). If youre ever sitting in the waiting room a bit longer than youd like just try to remember they are treating critically ill animals in the back and they are on their A-game, which is what you want for your pet. Charleston is very lucky to have this clinic!

When my little cat got very ill very quickly I took her to them. Everyone there from the receptionist to the techs and vets were very caring and helpful. Unfortunately, despite their collective efforts, Guinness died in their care. I had just left from visiting her so I was not there when she passed. She was there only a day and a half. I have been in healthcare for more then 20 years and am extremely impressed by their healthcare expertise (I am sure they could take care of a human in the same amount of distress) and their communication skills. The way they prepared her body so I could say goodbye touched me endlessly. But what made me write this review is that they sent me a condolence card that was signed by the two vets and all the the techs who took care of her. It was not a "canned" letter. Though they are very busy they took the time to reach out to me and express their condolences. I take comfort in that they gave her the best medical care possible.

I had the best experience with every doctor and staff member at this facility. I told each person how wonderful they were to deal with because they were. My dog was very ill on a Sunday and I initially took him to a different 24-hour clinic where I cannot say the same about the staff. After finding Charleston Veterinary Referral online and reading their reviews, I immediately left the first clinic and headed their way. Not only did they give my dog excellent care, each person was really attentive and sensitive to my concerns as well, both on the phone and in person. Before I left my dog there, they invited me into the back to see where he would be staying and to assure me he would be well taken care of. He was! Their follow up calls after his discharge did not stop either until they knew he was showing signs of returning to his previous health. This is the only specialty/emergency vet in this area that I will return to...and recommend to others.
