In my opinion, most of the staff are welcoming, kind, and are willing to listen and offer real advice. It was easy to get adjusted to the rules and schedule. Some of the techs (helpers) couldnt relate to our struggles or situations though. They offered breathing techniques, or asked if you needed to "take a break." I was in music therapy on a Wednesday in Earth Group, something triggered me and I started crying. Patients are allowed to take breaks as needed as long as you come back and participate. The Sequoia, which is like the gym, is fun. I liked that. Also the playground. One of my favorite choice groups was yoga, with Ryanne. I also want to say thank you to Mr. Devlin and Ms. Eubanks, the teachers I had during our hours of school. I learned history, and that week it was past presidents. I loved the way that Mr. Devlin conducted his class. One of my favorite things about his class, was Me Moves (my friend always made it funny and special) and the quizzes we took after writing down facts of current events. Those were always fun and competitive. My psychiatrist was Dr. Graham, and he controlled my meds and he did a daily check-in with me. Process group, one of the most important activities, was mandatory. It was very important to attend and participate. I still remember the check-in sequence, and I was discharged in the middle of April. Anyway, my experience overall went pretty well; but it depends on the level of cooperation and support, that will determine how well your childs experience will be. I would definitely recommend this place if your child needs it. Thank you to the nurses, Rachel, Matthew, Amy, and Jenny. You were my favorites. And the techs, Patrick, Ben, Risa, and Cassy. You all really, really helped me. From letting me rant and cry; to spraying vanilla chamomile in my room to help me sleep, after relaxation. Thanks for everything :)

This appears to be a profit driven organization. After my daughter took too many Prozac while having a panic attack we brought her to the hospital. They took this as a suicide attempt and were looking for places to admit her. The only bed open was at Prairie Care. The following day we found a google search on her phone that said "how many Prozac can I take without hurting myself". She searched this BEFORE she took them. The doctor decided she needed to stay there until her insurance ran out. This left us without any insurance funds for a day program which is what we believe she needs. She has never been exposed to children with problems like the other kids have here. The staff told her she had to go to group to be discharged but being in groups with strangers is one of her anxiety triggers. The therapist decided it was a safe place for her to face her triggers. They guilted and threatened her in to going. She went and now she has nightmares about the stories she heard. I asked for an estimate of what her care cost per day and they told me that they could not provide that. Please do not bring your child here unless its a last resort!

Too big for their own britches. Communication from clinical staff was nonexistent. Parents were treated like we knew nothing. Staff listened to childs phone conversations, which goes against patient rights. Floor staff were unprofessional, disrespectful, and poorly trained. While we explained rights to our child in the room, floor nurse abruptly and aggressively pushed door open to interrupt our family conversation. When sharing information with floor nurse, she told us she didnt care what we had to say/share. Even the other nurse in the room looked at her with concern/shock. We have had better luck elsewhere. I do believe this could be a great place for children. They need to get their staff training in check, they need to improve communication with families, and they need to follow state guidelines. Again- too big for their own britches......slow and steady wins the race.

I willingly admitted myself here in February, and since Ive had positive treatment and experiences at past hospitals, I was not worried. I still become very upset when I think of this hospital, as I had a very negative experience. Some staff were good, following appropriate guidelines and such, but most were not. There were many issues such as staff losing patience and proceeding to do and say things just because they can, lying and over exaggerating, horrible food, etc. I strongly advise to go to another hospital if possible, I suggest Abbott Northwestern.

The Staff suck and lie to you, they are so disorganized and dont take anytime to help you get better instead they call the 5min run ins with them helpful and beneficial.

Terrible place to bring your child, they do not accomplish anything while in patient or with the partial hospitalization program. Such a waste of 6 weeks.

It really helped with my mental illness. I met great people there, both staff and patients. They really changed my life, all for the better.
