HCMC is great as far as saving your life goes. But after that, their competency goes downhill. Its almost as though they are bored with you. I had about 4 different hospital stays (including high risk pregnancy) which most of my nurses were short with me, impatient and rude. At one time, I was in the hospital with 10 IV tubes, an NG tube and a catheter, all of which I had to tote around very carefully with me any time I needed to go to the bathroom. Most of the time, trying to coordinate 4 different IV poles at the same time, while trying not to pull anything out, was exhausting and frustrating and I would be grumbling about it the entire time. One day, a nursing assistant said to me, "Youre not used to being sick, are you?" I asked her why she said that and she said, "I overheard you yelling at your IV poles." My question to her is: then why didnt you come help me??? Instead of helping me, she chose to snicker about it. I was in the hospital at that time for an coronary dissection which caused me to have a severe heart attack. I was in the hospital separated from my newborn baby and 3 children and was missing them; so no, I was not "used to being sick." Ive since decided to switch my care to another doctor at another hospital. I faxed my medical request in a week before my apt only to find in the mail that they will not release my medical records due to "missing address." I have all the necessary information on their, including drs name, fax number and phone number and hospital name with the unit it needs to go to. The only thing missing is the street address which they DO NOT need because they are supposed to FAX the information, not mail it. Now, my records will not be there on time, as my apt is in two days. Instead of googling the information, they prefer to hold the process up over a street address that they do not need. And instead of calling, they wasted even more time by mailing me this information. Im more than disappointed in HCMC, they need to get their heads out of the drama (which is the only thing they are good at) and think more about patient care and how they treat their patients.

In 2010 my wife gave a birth to our son. It was a normal delivery. No complications during Pregnancy. She had a retained tissue after delivery. She got infection after 10 days. Came to the Emergency in HCMC, Radiologist was not able to detect any tissue. My wife, stayed in hospital for 2 days and then discharged. We were told that she is alright. No alternative diagnosing procedures were performed except ultra sound. After 10 days again, my wife got infected. We came to the HCMC hospital again. Again, Radiologist was not able to detect the retained tissue. My wife was admitted and stayed in hospital for 3 days and then released. She was on Antibiotics. She recovered a little and released. After 7 days (Third time) She was having high fever. We came to HCMC emergency. She was again admitted in hospital. Now this time (third time) radiologist was able to detect the retained tissue. It was too late. It was almost a month after the delivery. Doctor recommended the DNC procedure to get the retained tissue out of her uterus. But her Uterus was totally infested from inside and we were not aware of it. Then a student doctor under the supervision of Surgeon operated vaginally and ruptured my Uterus 3 places. 10cm cut, 4 cm cut, 12 cm cut. We were told that this procedure will take 1 hour. And it took around 9 Hours. They took my wife in the operation room at 9 AM but when she gained consciousness It was 6 PM. I was lucky that my loving wife did not die during the DNC procedure. After 12 months, My wife had to go for hysterectomy. We had the most worst experience in this hospital. In my wife case, Doctors, Radiologists, Gynecologists and the surgeons are responsible for what she is going through now and for whole of her life. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL, IF YOU CAN. ALWAYS GET THE THIRD OPINION FROM A SPECIALIST ELSEWHERE.

Be very clear with them about what you are going in for and make sure that it aligns with your insurance policy. They billed my insurance incorrectly and when I called to correct it they were very unwilling to comply. This is a hospital with clinics WITHIN the hospital (vey confusing for the average person). You will be charged as an "out-patient" for visiting the OB/ GYN clinic (or other clinics within the hospital). Your insurance may not cover a routine visit or what you assume to be a routine visit. I would recommend going to a regular hospital that does not have this kind of confusion. Also, the call center for scheduling spelled my first and last name incorrectly when I was setting up an appointment. They also entered my insurance ID number incorrectly. So when I went in for my visit, it took them nearly 45 to find me in the system. I wish I had left at that! The OB I spoke with was very unhelpful in providing other options for delivering a baby besides in their clinic. She clearly held a lot of biases and her information was faulty. I have done a lot of research since then and she was wrong on many of the things she told me about midwives, birthing centers, and insurance coverage. Just want to put some 1 star reviews out there. This is not a great place to receive healthcare--especially for woman who are in a vulnerable situation (like pregnancy). I dont think I have ever written a review in my life, but this felt necessary. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for healthcare. Also, notice that most of the "5 star ratings" are given by a random "Google User…" Not super trustworthy.
