I went to Dr. Hooie in October. Took my 3 boys and myself to get cleanings/exams. First of all, I didnt even get a cleaning as they told me I needed the planing/scaling done. Which was going to cost about $500 a pop to do. And I had cavities that needed filled, others replaced. Then my boys, I was told they were not "geniuses" at brushing their teeth or flossing (was told that about myself too by the way) and that my oldest had 13 cavities. He is 13 years old and hasnt had hardly any problems with his mouth. It was quite overwhelming hearing all the problems and issues that we had and seeing the proposed treatment plan numbers add up. We have great dental insurance that covers $1000/year per person on everyone, but the work wed need done was going to far exceed that. Upon further investigation, I realized that Dr. Hooie wasnt even in our network for dental insurance. I decided to switch to another dentist to have all this work done, at least itd be cheaper that way. So I made the appt with another dentist, and on my first visit I told him how Dr. Hooie said I needed scaling/planing. He gave me an odd look and looked in my mouth, inspecting my gums and told me there was NO way that I needed that done. I got a regular cleaning and went home. Went back today for my 13 year olds exam and lo and behold, he did NOT have 13 cavities. He had ONE cavity that needed filled, and got sealants on his other teeth. My impression of Dr. Hooie is that he is too expensive and tells people they need way too much work, so he can get the insurance money. I have heard this from a lot of other people in town as well. My advice is to stay FAR FAR away.

I beg to differ in opinion from the last review! I began seeing Dr. Hooie during the Christmas holidays a few years ago when his was the ONLY practice willing to see an individual in pain with very short notice. He did an excellent job then with an abcessed wisdom tooth and I consistently refer others to his practice. I too was never told about scaling by other dentists. I too had been religious about six and even three month hygeine checkups. Those did not prevent my gums from bleeding nor high sensitivity to cold during brushing and every cleaning UNTIL his hygenist did the scaling he recommended. Since then, my teeth have continued to improve. He has corrected a number of flawed interventions by other dentists Ive seen for 40 years. Being told of procedures necessary to ones health speak volumes to his professional credit, much above others. Dr. Hooie and his practice are the best in Crossville, the best Ive ever seen although Ive travelled and worked in a lot of different large cities and I am always amazed that such a great provider is here in this town. As for charges, they are reasonable and as allowed by standard insurance coverage, he has also financial plans available so this complaint too is rather specious. The office is wonderful, clean, bright and modern. His staff is very friendly, courteous and appointments are on time.

My mom went to Dr Hooie because she was having problems with a tooth next to a bridge on one side of her mouth. Hooie recommended a new bridge and also worked on the tooth the bridge was attached to. After Dr Hooie completed the work she had to go back 3 times for an adjustment because it wasnt fitting correctly when she bit down. She informed Dr. Hooie that it was still uncomfortable when she bit down and he said she wasnt supposed to chew on that side of her mouth. How rediculous was that comment? Why spend near $8000.00 for a new bridge if you cant chew on that side of your mouth? Mom didnt want to go back to him so she found a new dentist. The new dentist said a new bridge should never have been put in. The discomfort is so bad she is going to have to have something else done. She will loose close to $8000.00 worth of unnessary dental work and incur additional costs for fixing the poor dental work that was done. When confronted with the issue, his office staff was rude and Dr Hooie was even more rude. I would find another dentist even even if it meant driving to another city.

My wife was also told she needed scaling/planing. She is religious about 6month check ups and had never been told this. She went for a second opinion and was told she did not need them. Hooie also said she had 4 cavities, which have magically appeared in 6 months... None of which her other dentist found. Dr. Hooie was going to charge her $2000 for this procedure. Also notice that all of the other "good" reviews were within 3 days of each other... between the 17th and 19th of August... possibly Hooie staff or friends? Very nice facility though, and great atmosphere. You can afford it when you charge people for services they dont need!

I brought my son here after a traumatic experience with another dentist to finish what they had started. The staff was wonderful! He was nervous and they understood- They took the time to show him everything in the room that they were going to use before he even sat down in the chair. He was at ease with all of them. He didnt feel a thing! And even said he didnt care if he had to come back to see this dentist again!!! And then Dr. Hooie himself called the next day to check on him to see how he was doing! That means a lot. I highly recommend this place!!!

Dr. Hooie is a top notch dentist with emphasis on dental hygiene and maintenance of your teeth. If you have a concern about anything tooth related he should be your dentist. Very thorough. His office staff reflects his high standards for professionalism and excellent patient service. I am glad that the research I did, moving into the area, gave me his name!

Dr. Hooie is the best dentist I have been to hands down. Friendly staff, comfortable environment, and the doctor himself has a very reassuring straightforward attitude that someone of any age could love. They are very informative and work with your schedule so you wont have to worry about long term dates. I really recommend Dr Hooie if you live in the area.

Dr. Hooie was excellent with me. He told me what work had to be done; he was analytical, polite and reassuring. His attitude was one of patience and care. The work he has done for me at this time has been completed very carefully. He and his assistants advised me on care for my gums. I look forward to continued excellent care and advisement.

No previous dentist asked me to set goals for long term dental health. I have been surprised how easy it was to reduce the number of cavities per year since I have been with Dr Hooie. With his motivational approach I readily quit such frequent snacking and started brushing and flossing more. I feel like we have an excellent partnership.

Without a doubt the most modern dental office Ive seen in years, and Im not getting any younger. The staff is warm and friendly, and Dr. Hooie is very attentive to your needs. He may be considered a perfectionist, but isnt that what you want from your doctor.
