First, Ive never been to an ER vet before, so I do not have a basis of comparison. Our cats only 2 yrs old, no bad medical history, indoors, up to date on shots, and she just stopped eating yesterday. We took her immediately and didnt wait around. I called first, they talked me through directions to get there, took her info over the phone, and took our baby when we walked in. There was a wait, and one woman broke my heart as she held her dying dog in her arms and told the receptionist she needed to put him to rest-of course they put her ahead of us but I was ok with that. The kind receptionist even explained to us why she put her in front but of course we told her we didnt need the explanation, we saw for ourselves. All the while our cat was in the "back" and they were observing her vitals. Once we were seen, they asked many more questions, and had us sign off that we were ok with the testing procedures and the money estimates. The vet let us know that she was going to cover everything possible which was also our fault they had to do so much testing bc we go to the ValueVet and dont have previous x-rays and blood work on our cat from physicals. We always got the "she looks good", got her shots, flea prevention, and were good to go (which has always been fine for our other cats, Im not complaining about ValueVet, theyre great!). The vet was sad herself, she informed us that her cat had the SAME problem ours did, and she euthanized him that night! I was sad for her, respected her honesty, but a part of me felt worse bc her own cat died of this mysterious illness. She showed us x-rays and talked to us about blood counts and things I dont know about, but at least she tried. In the end, we said whatever it takes bc we love her. They gave her a 50/50 chance when we asked for some sort of odds. My hubby and I bawled over her, and they kindly gave me a towel to hold her in while my husband worked out the payment. They charge you every possible thing you can think of up front, which I understand bc if they treated your pet, and you never paid, what are they going to do? Keep your pet until you pay up? They gave me extra time with her before we left bc I was bawling, and they were very very sympathetic. She gave a purr before I left, which is rare for her to ever purr, so I felt like she was comfortable-and my cat is very awkward. I picked her up this morning, took her to a vet they recommended with all her paperwork, and when I showed up at the vet 10 min before they opened, they already had her file faxed to them! They gave us a $400 credit for the stuff they didnt have to do to our kitty. Im still waiting for that vet now to call me with more results. Those ladies at the ER all have tough skin, I can tell, and they are angels for doing what they do. No one made it mandatory to have ERs for animals, and if these ladies didnt do it, who would? I bet they wish they could take all the animals who are injured, and work and not charge people. If our society could be one where we could all help each other and not put a $ value on things then that could be a possibility. But as long as green paper and metal are used to provide amenities for human and animal survival-- then the loss of human and animal life is the result of those who cannot pay up. I hope one day this changes so that all living beings will be afforded medical care without the worry of currency being exchanged.

Our Boston Terrier had tore out one nail after getting it stuck in a chain link fence. The nail was being held on by skin. We attempted to stop the bleeding with a towel. We arrived at the clinic for emergency care unfortunately for us, our regular vet was closed . We wait at least 5-6 minutes before someone even came out to assess him well we were trying our best to stop the bleeding. It wasnt until about 10 minutes did someone finally come out and offered to bandage the foot until the vet could see him. Staff eventually got to us and wanted an $85.00 payment, ok no problem but then we waited for at least 25-30 minutes before we were even seen. The vet (Im assuming) spent 2-3 minutes with us and said he would take him in the back and they will not be administering any anesthetic because they will just quickly pull the nail off. When he took Hopper into the back the same woman that charged us originally came in with a pt. treatment plan and what the costs were for that. What did I just pay $85.00 for? Just to get in the office. I was not about to argue then so the next thing I heard was Hopper yipping in the back. The did not even given him a topical anesthetic, how compassionate. Too bad it wasnt their toe nail someone ripped off. The bill was another $90.00 and $50.00 of it was a bandage, really. A bandage, $50.00. So understand from this pet lover and father of 4 dogs. I HOPE I NEVER HAVE TO USE THIS PLACE AGAIN. IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I also believe they took advantage of the situation which is unfortunate for them. We do have 4 dogs and have many friends. I will make sure as many people understand that this place should be your last option. DO not bring your pets here for great care because we did not get it. We paid their fee and got horrible customer service and even less in compassionate care.

My son took his dog here. Service was fine but $125.00 for antibiodics? We are now in the $4.00 generic generation or free at Publix, and Target even advertises for you to fill your pet prescriptions there. I called and asked if the antibiodics could be returned for a prescription and she said they were already dispensed so, no they could not. There are people who do not know you can ask for a prescription and take it to be filled at the pharmacy. His dog needed the antibiodic now but looking it up online it would have cost $44.38 from 1-800-PetMeds and the Deramaxx would have been $9.00 instead of $27.73. The whole visit was 543.24 for office visit, x-rays, one injection, medical waste fee and the office visit. We realize a pet is a responsibility but at least when a human goes to the ER you are afforded the opportunity to make payments. Someone who could finance an emergency clinic would profit greatly not charging so much and would force competition to lower their prices to be competitive. I can only imagine what a family would go through if they took care of their pet but an emergency happened and they simply did not have hundreds of dollars to pay an emergency vet clinic so they watch their pet suffer until the vet opens on Monday. Heartbreaking. I am not asking for charity but on the medicine alone it was $100.00 more than what I could have purchased it for. To top the matter off, he never got a definitive diagnosis as to what was wrong with his dog.
