Not only is this place overpriced but they will try to shove things into your hands that your pet doesnt need. It seems like all they care about is money. While given the choice to use a topical flea treatment that my dog doesnt need, they still did not take my choice into consideration and while we were heading out from getting a shot I find out that i was charged for a comboguard that is extremely expensive. We only went to get our dog a shot that he was missing and they ended up giving him a truck load of things without consent that they thought he needed. We also had a pee problem with our dog that we took to this place to see what the problem was and you will not believe that the lousy vet asked US why is he doing that and didnt give us any advice for it. They also did not take the coupon from THEIR website for a free exam up to 2 dogs because we took them on separate days! B.S. From only planning to spend like $15 on his vaccines, they charged us almost $300 for a bunch of hooplah. I decided to take our dog to SPCA instead and we needed his vaccine records. Not only did we go to the vca but i also called and emailed countless times to get his record and they only sent me what he was "due for" yet he was caught up on everything. I emailed again and again for the correct record and no response! What a waste of time and money. Go to SPCA instead.

The staff at the Lakewood VCA Animal Hospital were great! The hospital manager, Bridgette, went out of her way to help me and my dog Aberdeen (she even switched with a tech to see him.) Not only did she provide help with my request to print our insurance claim form, she also checked the web for me to price match his heartworm medication, saving me money. It is great to know that the staff are really looking out for your pet, and your wallet! The doctor we saw (Dr. Gesell) was very friendly, and helpful in filling out our insurance claim forms. Even though we had only needed to get a refill of his heart worm medication, she took the time to read his history, do an exam (including an orthopedic exam) and to check and make sure he was still recovering well from a previous procedure at another surgery center. The rest of the staff was very helpful as well, directing me to the website for a coupon for a free first visit when I called for the appointment, and holding my dog when I was filling out paperwork. They also provided me with pamphlets for great resources. They are conveniently located in my East Dallas neighborhood, and are open until 7pm, which is extremely convenient for me, as I work until 5 during the week. My experience at the Lakewood VCA was top notch and I will be using them from now on.

Zero Stars....WORST experience with an Avian vet Ive ever had! The nail trim my Macaw received today left his nails sharper than before the visit and I will have to take him to another vet to repair what this vet did. I dropped off my bird in the morning and picked him up after work. His cage was on the floor in a front exam room where dogs were being walked past, clients children were allowed to get close to his cage and the paper in the cage was what I brought in and was covered in bird poop and so was my birds tail feathers. I took in the "Free" health exam coupon you can print from their website but was told "they really werent able to get that done". The icing on the cake is that this vet charged 30$ more (90$ total bill) than other competent vets I have used in the past. When I called to say I was dissatisfied with their work, Dr. Burk explained to me how they do the best nail trim for birds. Ive had this bird for 12 years and this is the first bad trim hes ever had. This vet may know cats and dogs but dont waste your time or money taking your bird to them. I made this appointment because Lakeside VCA is the closest Avian vet to my house. Southlake Animal Hospital off of Highway 114 has competent vets that do an excellent job and have far better rates which makes them worth the drive.

OVERCHARGED BY DOUBLE - SERIOUS PRICING ISSUES Yes - the staff is very nice and I do not doubt the skills of Dr. Nakashima but their "regional managers" who oversee pricing use a strategy that borders on price gouging. After a long struggle with a health issue for my dog we tried VCA for a second opinion. My partner took my dog in only to he scammed into getting unnecessary services and procedures. When I compared the bill to the upscale chain veterinarian we typically use the prices at VCA were more than doubled on the same services. A single visit was more expensive than an entire 6 hour surgical procedure done at the other, more highly rated, vet. To top it off, several unnecessary procedures were conducted just to make a buck for the clinic. A quick google search for VCA can find similar scams and over billing at their other locations reported by both customers and past employees. After 20 years of pet ownership Ive never experienced a vet take advantage of a pet in need like VCA. I will never let a greedy VCA center take advantage of my pets ever again.

The below example highlights what I believe to be disingenuous behavior by this establishment, why I dont think I can continue to trust them with my pets care. I took my adopted dog to this location as offered for a free exam by the SPCA. The concept was for the SPCA to take care of pre-existing issues with the dog within the first 30 days of my adoption. The vet said that the dog was healthy with no major issues. I double checked with the receptionist and she said the notes had no mention of dental issues. I now know months later that my dog has chronic tooth decay so bad that one is loose, and I have been feeding him dry dog food and giving him dental chews. I noticed his bad breath since the beginning, and a friend more knowledgeable about dogs mentioned that he had bad signs of gingivitis. When I brought this up in frustration to this location, the receptionist replied "Well, if you would have known, would you have not adopted the dog?" If you want this kind of patronizing treatment, this is the place for you!

My partner and I have been bringing our cats here since about 2003. From the front desk people to the vet techs to the docs themselves, everyone is professional and very kind. They clearly love animals and are great with people, too. And they keep the place spotless. Weve seen Dr Yzaguirre for most of these years, and if youre someone who likes to know all the possibilities of what may be wrong (before embarking on tests) and various treatments, hes your vet. Hes extremely knowledgeable, very kind and gentle with animals, and has a wonderful "bedside" manner with pet guardians. VCA clinics do cost more than many other vets, but we trust them implicitly to work in our cats and our best interests. A few years ago I tried to save a little money a couple of times by trying other clinics and didnt like them even half as much, so went right back to Dr Y at VCA Lakewood.
