My experience at the Medical City ER Grand Prairie was absolutely terrible from the time that we entered the building until the end of our visit. On the morning of the 17th of March around 4:30 a.m., my mother informed me that she was encountering excruciating stomach pains. We rushed to the ER as it is in close proximity to our home. Upon entering into the facility, a “security guard” sat at the front desk. As I approached the counter he stared aimlessly, forcing me to ask him what I needed to do in order to check my mother into the facility. Under his breath, the security guard stated that I needed to sign in. After not hearing him the first time, I asked him to repeat himself; at that point I believe that he was bothered by my request. Moving on, once my mother was taken back to room, the nurses all appeared to bothered/upset as they walked around very dry and melancholy. I am fully aware that the hospital is not a place of “laughter and joy,” but a simple hello or even a look of concern for a struggling patient would have sufficed. Nonetheless, we were made to feel as if we were a burden and not a patient seeking medical assistance. One of the nurses appeared to be slightly incompetent, this was quite alarming! Not only did the nurse struggle taking blood and he further struggled with assembling the IV. Later, a gentleman entered the room regarding a CAT scan. Initially, my mother informed the gentleman that she would not like to receive the scan; however, he insisted that it was absolutely necessary for them to administer the scan. While my mother explained her reservations pertaining to the scan, the individual interrupted her by stating “well ma’am, no one in the building has X-Ray vision. You will have to have this scan regardless.” Again, the members of this facility demonstrated a lack of concern & empathy. My mother is not an ignorant woman and she is fully aware that no one has X-Ray vision. After the doctor reviewed the CAT scan and blood work, he ordered yet another test to be run via ultra sound. At this point, he had already informed us of what he thought the issue was (gallstones), but “he wanted to make sure.” I guess that was a way to rack up the bill. As we sat in the room for an additional 40 minutes waiting on the ultra sound, a nurse came into the room to erase the board. Upon her entry, she did not make eye contact, she did not say hello, and she did not ask if the “patient” needed anything. I began to ask her a question regarding the ultra sound, and as I was speaking she rudely interrupted me and said ma’am “we are busy, you will receive your lab results once the doctor is available.” Little did she know, we already received our results; however, the nurse rudely interrupted me, thus she did not understand my question. Again, this another example in which a member of this facility demonstrated a lack of help, empathy and concern. After various other unfavorable incidents at this facility, I have come to the conclusion that I will NEVER visit this facility again! I would not recommend this facility to anyone, unless they are okay with being disrespected and treated unfairly!!!!! The next time that there is a need for emergency assistance, I will surely travel the distance to receive better service. I would further recommend that the individuals at the facility seek other employment that does not require them to “HELP” people in need, as they are currently in a helping profession, and clearly that is not their forte!!!!!

I have an open plan insurance, but because my insurance is not in "their" network of insurance they will not except what insurance allows for my ER visit and after insurance payment, I have a bill of $6,385.11 left over that is non negotiable, because "we do not negotiate payment unless your bill is over $25,000" not to mention the bill had nothing on it for what was being billed, I had to call and request details for the charges! Called today with insurance provider on the phone and asked whom we could fax an offer for payment to and was told "if you send an offer in it will go from the fax to the shredder" REALLY? nice customer service, but better than I received while in there care... I was also told that we could have made those arrangements while at the ER? I was never offered any options for payment, I had to find someone to get out after just sitting waiting and was told we are waiting on your paperwork "as the 2 Drs. sat and played games on the computer and laughed and talked about going out" paperwork that I did not receive upon exit, nor was I told anything about what was found in test results after a CT scan, EKG "which I might add didnt work properly and was hooked up to me for 20 SECONDS!" I would not recommend this facility for any emergencies, because in the end it will cost! When asked if I was 65 would the payment from insurance been accepted they replied "that someone of that age having Medicare would have been deemed an in network provider, so yes they would have accepted what my Insurance paid as payment" I then asked if they charge everyone the same, she said "yes, and that they accept what an in network Insurance would deem allowable for charges and that would have been payment in full" so because I am not 65 and because my open plan insurance is not "In network with Medical City ER" my insurance payment is not enough! doesnt sound like everyone is charged the same to me, Insurance payment is an Insurance payment, funny how if the same amount would have come from another provider that the payment would have been deemed sufficient payment for services rendered. "Services" this word with this ER is subjective.

Long post alert! I would not expect anyone that value his or her health to use this facility. All they care about is getting you in fast and out speedily after getting your money. Even if you die hours after leaving the place is non of their business. They are the most rude medical personnel have ever met. I went there complaining of unrelieved neck pain and headache for about one week, rating the pain 10 out of 10 after taking Over the counter Ibuprofen for few days. The Doctor named Sherman did not physically look at my neck to examine. He stood by the door to ask me questions for about a minute and left. He asked Robert the nurse to give me Toradol injection which did not help with the pain. My initial b/p was 180/97 (I guess from having severe pain). The Doctor came and said you are discharged, I told him the pain is still severe and I would want a further test to see why I was having the pain. He told me we dont have stronger pain medication here you can go to another ER. I was trying to tell him I am not a pain medication seeker, even Hydrocodone tablet made me sick to my stomach in the past because it is too strong for me; all I wanted to know is the cause of the pain. I told him I wanted to be sure I wasnt having meningitis or nerve pinch but he walked out and slammed the door when I was still talking. The nurse Robert gave me my prescription for Valium and Naproxen tablets. I requested to have a discharged b/p checked which was not addressed by the Doctor, it read 172/97. All the nurse said is I hope you feel better, go home and take the new prescriptions. I got a call from Robert this morning to check on me just bcos I told him and Dr. Sherman I was not pleased with the medical treatment and will follow it up. I told Robert that I took both prescriptions last night but it did not touch the pain and my b/p this morning was147/104. All he said was "sorry to hear that and hope to you feel better", hung up the phone. I regretted paying a copay of $125 yesterday at Grand Prairie ER, hope I dont get any other bill from them because I will contest it. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS ER UNLESS THE DOCTOR IS CHANGED. Thanks.
