negative 100 stars. I would much rather die try to heal myself then go here ever again.the ER nursing staff was beyond ridiculous and the waited time was so long Im surprised more people didnt die waiting for help.I had it an it etopical pregnancy and was bleeding internal.I told they RN that I could not move or go to the bathroom, but she rudely force me to go anyways so they can take a urine test. once in the bathroom it was so painful that I fell off the toilet and was laying on the ground ready to pass out. I could not reach the bell to ring for help, but luckly my mom had a came in and saw me on the ground and called the nurse. Once the nurse had arrived to help me up she complained about how heavy I was but I could not move myself anymore at this point in time because I was bleeding to much. Then I had to wait a few more hours before I can go into surgery, which almost caused me to go into cardiac arrest from all the blood loss. I will say, though, the obgyn and surgeons a very nice very helpful and in the recovery room they were very nice and very helpful. Thank God I lived. That was the worst of all my visits and I could really go on and on about how horrible nurses are and how horrible the service is cause I and other friends and family members have actually had to cuss them out many times before just to get them 2 stop being rude and/or to get service. Dont depend on thinking that anybody would care if you complain to somebody about it because Ive tried to talk to somebody and they never ever have taking care of anything. Ive never gotten a sorry, and they never even call or email me back and all I ever got is "oh well call you when we take care of it" when I would physically go up there to try to talk to somebody. So if u feel like being wait for a life time, being treated like trash, and/or committing suicide then go to this hospital.

Worst ER Ever. Ive been to this ER twice now with my infant daughter and the results were the same so I feel this is a good sign of their standard behavior. Ill cite my most recent visit since this was the most urgent of the two. My 11 month old daughter spiked a fever of 103.1 while in the middle of her antibiotic treatment for some funk she was going through. Gave her tylenol and rushed her over. By the time we got there her fever was down to 101.2; so there we sat. After 5 hours of waiting we were called back to triage again to measure her temp now that tylenol had worn off. Down to 96.5. I mentioned that I had noticed EVERYONE that was there when we arrived had already been through. The two triage nurses there said they were processing the quickest patients first to keep the flow moving. The example was those that come in with ankle pain. ANKLE PAIN!? Apparently they have no clue how hard it is to keep an infant with a fever still and occupied in one place for that long. We waited a total of 7 hours before we were out of there and she was finally diagnosed with pneumonia...but hey, at least the people with sore ankles were at home in bed already. Idiots. The drive may be longer somewhere else, but I am sure you will be rewarded with a more pleasant and prompt visit. I will make the drive to Inova Fairfax next time which was 4.5 star in my book during birth of child.

Visited this ER on two different occasions, and did not like how me or my son were treated. The nurse practitioner, Jen in the pediatrics unit was very rude to me and seemed to mock the way my son spoke. She initially refused to give me a work note of any kind after giving him a diagnosis of chicken pox and telling me he could not go to daycare which I explained to her would render me unable to work until he got well due to the fact that we just moved here from Maryland and I have no one. This is the first time I have ever been refused a doctors note for my son. She simply told me that she always was able to work when her children were sick because she had outside resources and that this was the "Real World". I couldnt believe a medical professional would utter that to a hard working single mother just trying to get care for her child, as if she didnt think I have come to realize this "Real World". Very harsh and judgmental tone of voice and absolutely condescending toward me in front of my son. After having to defend myself and my situation to her she finally gave me a note. I am just appalled by her attitude.

We walked into the front doors and I was surprised to see a very modern day lobby, after my wife was rushed here, I had never been here and so when I saw this well done lobby, I had high hopes. It was not until I interacted with the nurses during and after my wife give birth to my son that we were treated horribly. Not only were we rushed though room to room, I felt like the nurses were only there to collect a paycheck. I waited 4 hours to get my wife cleaned up. I was very polite in asking if they could clean the vomit and blood off my wife. I guess at 1100 at night, they had better things to do. I will say the doctors here know what they are doing, especially the anesthesiologist. However once your in the care of the nurses, you are doomed to a miserable existence and a 2 hour wait for any pain medicine. The only reason I ended up in this place is that we couldnt make it to Bethesda which I highly suggest. I just wanted some common courtesy and a little professionalism which are lacking in the post pardon nurses.

I gave birth here twice - once in 2007 and once in 2009. I was induced with my first baby and throughout the entire time I was waiting, to the pushing, after the baby was born, and the recovery for both of us - we were more than well taken care of. The nurses helped me nurse my child, the NICU nurses were fantastic, and everyone was helpful and understanding. Our second child was born in 2009 and I made it to the hospital just in time for him to be delivered, and again, everyone was wonderful. I was panicked, but the nurses were calming and professional. At that time, VA was not allowing anyone to come in to see the baby except for the parents, yet, the nurses worked with me to let the grandparents see the baby (from outside the nursery at this point). I will be delivering there again soon and I have no hesitation in all about the labor and delivery.

Yikes. The economic downturn has really hurt the quality of this Potomac Hospitals ER. There is no longer a doctor there at night and all of the medical care decisions are handled by a single Nurse Practioner. Now, I love NPs. I think they are be crucial to keeping healthcare affordable. BUT REALLY, in the Emergency Room?!? Im not sure thats a good call. Other things to note are that they no longer use the Childrens wing which was new a few years ago. No, kids are just place in the sterile and scary rooms they use for adults. AND the wait times are awful. Unless you come in an ambulance I think you can safely count on being there at least 3 hours. The staff has just been cut back too much for things to move more quickly. Very sad. Used to be much better.
