I went into ER at NYU Langone on 4.4.14 to receive care. After verifying my insurance coverage, I waited for doctor, tests, results, advice etc in the hospital corridor. I never left the corridor except to get an MRI and return back to the corridor to wait again. Months after my insurance paid all my ER bills, I got a surprise bill for $410.00 from Dr MARSIA VERMEULEN for an ‘office visit’ on the same day. I called billing dept immediately telling them I never had an office visit; they said that I did. My insurance co. told me that i simply had to prove that the doctor billed me erroneously and they would cover it. I explained to different billing personnel that I never visited an office, that I was only in ER for the entire time, but each time they adamantly REFUSED to code the bill as part of the ER, and instead INSISTED it was an office visit. Numerous calls, letters, and great amount of time later, time ran out. I can no longer continue the appeal. Meanwhile, I have been inundated with threats from a debt collection agency for non-payment of an office visit to Dr Vermeulen. I would NOT go to or recommend Langone ER to anyone because I ended being a victim instead of getting care ‘only’. I’m sure an in-network doctor was available for the entire 7 hours I was there; yet no one asked or told me I would be billed for an out-of-network visit. I don’t even know who this doctor is or where her office is. Maybe in the corridor? I discovered that a law has been passed in march 2015, which bars doctors from billing patients surprise bills. Doctors MUST ask if you accept to pay for out-of-network care. But last year, these doctors were billing erroneously and getting away with it. The law now protects patients from dishonest doctors, but it doesn’t protect me from the medical dishonesty that Dr Vermeulen slapped me on 4.4.14.

A man was walking down the street and dropped a dollar. When I ran to return it to him I twisted my ankle and fell, when I looked down my foot was basically backwards. It took the ambulance some time to get to me because there was traffic- that was the hardest part of the entire ordeal. Fortunately there were some very kind strangers taking care of me as I laid on the sidewalk in agony. The EMTs made tough decisions quickly. They had a choice to make between waiting for a pain management truck or getting me to the hospital. They got me to the hospital, and a wonderful man somehow got me smiling at one point on the ambulance. They were careful with me, kind to me, and they did an amazing job. Once I got inside it only got better. I didnt have to wait long before they were on top of the pain and setting my ankle (holy crap, that was intense though). The doctors and nurses were all so sweet to me. Everyone asking me how I did this to myself and making a personal connection with me in some way. By the time I left the hospital I was exhausted, but I was smiling. Ive never broken any bones before or had any kind of injury where I got rushed to the hospital like this. I will tell anyone who asks that it was one of the craziest days of my life--- but I cant say that it was one of the worst. I owe that to the people at Bellevue. I am so grateful to all of them.

I attended the hospital in 2011 for both prenatal and labor & delivery. The clinic is absolutely horrible. The staff is rude and really unorganized. I waited for hours to be seen. When I went into labor which is in building H, the experience was amazing!! The staff was attentive and made me feel comfortable. 4 years later I went back to give birth to my daughter. I attended a different clinic for prenatal. Again, the staff in labor & delivery was amazing. I had preeclampsia and they handled me with so much care. They made a follow up appointment for me to have my 6 week check up and I missed the appointment. Today I call to make another appointment and i was transferred to GYN. I spoke with a lady who was VERY RUDE! She asked me for my clinic card and I explained that I dont have a card because it has been 4 years however to please give me a sec because I had my discharge papers with my record number. She then told me that just asked me for that!!! I gave her the number and explained that I needed a postpartum appointment and she immediately transferred me to prenatal without even telling me. I remained in hold for 33 more minutes until they disconnected the call! I was on hold a total of 47 minutes. I am currently waiting to speak with a representative again and Ive been on hold for 10 minutes! The clinic is ridiculously slow and full of rude people.

My boyfriend was taken here by the ambulance. He arrived at 8:50 wasnt registered until 9:11. Then was left in a corner by the emergency room exit. He didnt even have his own room. I arrived at 9:30 and we are just now leaving 11:06 still without seeing a doctor. When I went up to the desk to about my boyfriends doctor the nurse said-with the worst attitude, unwilling to even let me finish my full question: "hes only been here for an hour and thirty-six minutes. Weve been fairly busy and he will be seen shortly." Yeah right, the doctor that was supposed to attend him was chatting/giggling with her co-workers until my boyfriend and I decided to get up and leave. The doctor then rushed to us and said: "Kevin, I was just coming to see you-youre leaving?" Me: "um, yes. Hes able to walk slightly, you guys took too long and theres no point in paying you for a service you didnt provide." Im usually not like this but I was so irritated that the rude side of me finally came out. (and I sort of feel terrible for it) Hmmmm, save yourself the trouble and go to a different hospital if you have an emergency. ps: aside from the receptionist that helped me find the area where my boyfriend was being held, all staff members were rude and unhelpful.

Awful receptionist staff! but great doctors! I called to twice make an appointment with my thyroid specialist whom I have been seeing for years and the receptionists were awful. The first time I called, I gave them my record and asked to make an appointment with my specialist and the receptionist assumed I was making a general visit. I called back to reschedule the appointment and that is when I found out I was scheduled for the wrong doctor. The second receptionist couldnt find my records and when I tried to explain to her that I have been going to this hospital for years, she accused me of lying! The only redeeming thing about this hospital is their specialists! I called my specialists and left her a voicemail explaining what happened and she had a receptionist call me who was super nice and helpful! If you can avoid the receptionist at the general number, do it!! and ask your doctor for a number to call!!!!

This is the worst hospital ever, the prenatal clinic is extremely rude especially the front desk receptionist they have a really bad attitude problem and cant seem to be bother with questions concerning your care, they have you waiting for hours, the nurses have personal conversations while attending to you instead of being focused on their jobs, its appalling that New York City residents are subjected to this type of treatment, I have even overheard how the staff are choosing patient charts causing longer waiting time for patients during one of my ultrasound appointments, one time I was so frustrated and appalled at how I was spoken to that I immediately called the patient advocacy number and made a formally complaint, and soon after that did the staff at the prenatal clinic decide to see me after I have already waited 3 hours, this hospital needs a quality control inspection and a overhaul in patient services
