Its not every day in your life where you experience a health scare, but the Trillium Center will take care of you from top to bottom. Some party, some party hard, and some party too hard making bad choices when it comes to the people we sleep with. Trillium focuses a lot on gay mens health, prevention, treatment, and awareness. It is not a secret that here in Rochester we have high population of people who are currently living with the HIV virus. This is why it is extremely important to get yourself tested on a routinely basis, and dont do what I did by waiting for 10 years to get it done. Walking into the Trillium Center you are presently surprised by a state of the art facility, with nice accommodations for the patients. They have an on-site pharmacy, and cafeteria for food which is free for the patients that go here. With my heart racing, I walked through the reception area to fill out all the required paperwork for my HIV test. The paperwork involves a lot of questions about your current sex life, and past. Based on the questionnaire, you get an assessment of 1-5 of how high of a risk you can be of contracting the virus. Eventually, the staff will come out and give you the run-down of the process you are about to go through. The staff is remarkable, and easy to talk to, especially when it comes to sex. Yeah I was one of those people, who had sex with someone who was HIV positive, and that person did not tell me till AFTER the fact. The test involves a simple prick of your finger, and then you wait the dreaded 15 mins for the results. Given the circumstances, I think everyone in the room was nervous. The staff started to walk me though the after procedures if it does come out positive, and at that point I was about to faint off my chair. Now, I am not unfamiliar with what happens if you do get HIV since a lot of my friends are HIV-positive, a reality us gay men go through on a yearly basis. The test came back negative, and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. However, it was NOT over, they wanted to test for EVERYTHING else which including blood work in the labs, swab treatments, and peeing in a cup. After the initial HIV test, everything else was an STD test cake-walk. Once testing was processed, the staff recommended I immediately go on a new mainstream pre-HIV prevention drug called Prep/Truvada. They believe I would be a good candidate for the drug, and wanted to begin the process right away for me. This would mean a permanent doctor at the center, similar to going to your OBGYN. Samuel Jett was an amazing PREP counselor for my follow-up visits, making sure all my paper-work was done on time. It is always tough and little embarrassing sometimes discussing your sex life with a really hot guy. So what is PREP aka Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis? Its an HIV prevention medication that will help you stay HIV-negative when having sex with partners, a HUGE break-through for our time!!! There has not been a case to date where someone has contracted HIV by taking the PREP medication. PREP has been proven to prevent HIV infection by 95 percent. PREP will create a barrier against HIV cells that harmfully attack your bodys immune system if you come into contact with someone who is HIV positive. You have to take PREP EVERYDAY, so that barrier stays up in your system. This is a huge break-through, and one of the final steps to an HIV vaccination. The primary doctor at Trillium made me feel extremely comfortable, even when he had to poke a swab through my butt and penis, which I never thought I would experience. After more tests, prescription is FILLED. The bottom line is this, play it safe, and keep yourself safer by getting on PREP. Overall: Top-Notch Facilities, Steller Treatment, Prep, HIV Testing and Prevention, and Sam Jett aka Your Neighborhood Prep Counselor....Of Course I Will Be Back.

Horrible experience, completely inept and unprofessional. I was told by "Supervising Intake Navigator", Margarita, whom is delegated the job of scheduling medical appointments, that my appointment was both scheduled and confirmed on the Friday I called, for the following Monday. Good thing I called to ask them a question before leaving my home for this "appointment". The "Navigator" Margarita never scheduled this appointment (as she had told me), after I took the day off from work. And instead of correcting it, she proceeded to justify it with excuses that she had scheduled many other people in my time slot, and explain she had never scheduled me. No apology from her was made, and she rudely tried to deny ever having spoken with me. My recall of the exact time (from my call log) and her name (because I had asked for it on the previous Friday when I scheduled) were met with a dead silence. She then went on to pompously insist that there was nothing she could do (after I lost a day of work thanks to her inadequacy), and tell me that I had to wait weeks to get in to be seen. Im glad this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it speaks volumes about their lack of any professionalism and lack of respect for their patients. I found trusted medical care elsewhere, at a properly-managed care provider in the local metro area.

I was fortunate enough to have a primary care physician who referred me to trillium health. EVERYONE at trillium is SO nice, from Melinda in billing all the way up to my amazing doctor, Dr Schaefer. I was initially terrified about the what ifs of a diagnosis and it was very daunting, but the amazing staff at trillium made the journey an easy one to traverse. My personnel insurance is an entirely different story and not one for this review, however I will say that its been 6 months and two appointments and my insurance still hasnt processed any claims. Thats where Melinda comes in, she has been great and trillium has even been willing to keep my third appointment when I can make payment arrangements. There were Agee times I had to reschedule my check up visits and I had feared that I may run out of medication, however dr Schaefer was easily contacted through the online patient portal and guaranteed me I would not run out. Overall I personally cant say enough good things about trillium health, and all the good things they do for our community. I highly recommend trillium and recommend them to literally EVERY transgendered individual I know. Thank you trillium health for making it so easy to finally overcome the dysphoria, and allowing my outter self to match my inner self.

This doctors office is a mess! No one knows what the other one is doing. Most of the people I have dealt with are not friendly and incompetent. I have never seen a doctors office that cant keep the same staff for more than a couple of months. I have dealt with numerous people and when I ask for that person its the same answer, "oh, they dont work here anymore". This should say enough about how poorly this office is managed. If you have insurance they will milk it for all they can get out of it. Unnecessary test after test they will perform, they want you to use all of their services even if you dont need them. I went there for about a year and now go to another doctors office. All this place does is want to make money!! Pharmacy is a mess too, they loose prescriptions, dont fill them onetime and submit wrong information to your insurance. Phone calls are rarely returned and good luck trying to reach someone by phone. Office staff could care less about helping you, they are so overwhelmed with too much work. Have spoken to Rich in the past about no one following thru on things and nothing changes.
