This place is horrible. Words cant even express the frustration that this place has caused me. First of all they are open from 8:45 - 1200 and then closed for 2 hours for lunch, then open 2-5! A 2 hour lunch is ridiculous! Wouldnt you think think that MOST people would use their lunch break to go see a Doctor! I left work early due to excruciating sciatic nerve problems. I tried calling and paging the on call doctor multiple times with no call back. This was from 12-2 during the lunch break. I finally got a call back and explained i was in excruciating pain and needed pain medication asap. I was told it could take up to 48 hours but they were working on it. Prior to this (going back to the previous day) the feature for paging an on-call doctor didnt even work! The phone system kept transferring me to their billing dept. in Tennessee. This is just the tip of the ice burg. Previous visits for various other problems were diagnosed improperly. This past couple times I ended up going to the ER because the problem had escalated. I am currently in excruciating pain and still no call back. I hate this place. Avoid it at all costs.

Was Happy but Not ANYMORE! I have been going to see Dr. Kermani for a couple years now and have been really happy with her. Recently she went on maternity leave so I have had to see other doctors. In January I saw the nurse practitioner who I liked, but yesterday they had my appointment with Dr. Klein. I had three things I needed to discuss/work out. We went over the first two and when she stood up to leave. I said "wait what about my back pain?" and she replied "we have already worked out two things, you need to set up another appointment to get your back worked out." What! I told her that was the main issue and I had already been in previously and the medication wasnt helping and I wanted to figure out what was going on since I have been dealing with this for years and still havent figured out the cause. She just looked at me, said she would change the meds but I needed to come back another time. What doctor tells their patient that! I am never going back again!

I have been a patient of AFP for at least the last 5 years and have been very pleased with Dr. Chandrin; my initial physician who relocated out of the State and Dr. Catherine Egelhoff. I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome which incurred a lot of tests and referrals. At all times I felt that both doctors took the time to talk to me and find out how I was doing. I have been in offices where you literally had to "chase" the doctor down while still in your gown to discuss your concerns. The office and support staff have always been friendly and professional. I have been seen when needed whether as a regular scheduled appointment or an emergency due to illness. I hope to find an office that I am as confident in as I am with AFP in my new home in the Sierra Foothills. If not...then Ill continue to make a trip out of it and continue to visit Dr. Catherine and AFP.

Although the physicians I came into contact with there were nothing but nice and helpful, if somewhat rushed, the office staff is a disaster. They dont return phone messages, even though they claim to do so three times a day. And when my doctor left the practice, I wasnt informed until I tried to call and make an appointment. To my knowledge they are at least the biggest family practice in town, which means that its impossible to get an appointment any time sooner than two months in advance. Especially for a single woman going in for the kinds of exams and questions that adults have, this place is too much hassle. Kids running around being loud and obnoxious, and a feeling that the docs have too much on their plate to do the good job they might otherwise do. Probably not the worst place you could go, but save yourself the headache and go somewhere else first.

Born in Alameda, at nearly 69 this year I have had the most horrible care in this place, starting with Dr. Miramira who has repeatedly refused to fill a Rx for days now, I just met him this yr, his bedside manners are the worse, he is condescending, he doesnt have any front office call to schedule appts yet he leads front office to have you believe he is, in fact calling in your 30-day supply & doesnt. During my 1st physical he stood as a P.A. in training attempted to do a physical on me but didnt know what she was doing, Mira Mira began laughing as I was yelling. .....a pelvic done wrong is no joke.....I could go on but he will still be there.....from a retired nurse

Ive seen Dr. Mary Fisher and Catherine Engelhoff, PA, who are both wonderfully informative, competent and caring. However, the front office situation is RIDICULOUS. Once, I called two days in a row for test results and the phone just went straight through to answering service saying they were closed. Their offices were in fact open. Every time I have called, it takes forever for them to pick up and I am always put on hold to wait once someone finally does answer. I called to make an appointment to have a pregnancy test and was told to just go to the pharmacy and get one over the counter. Pretty surly.

So far, Nancy Shaw is the only staff member who consistently returns calls. And sometimes I still have to call her a couple of days in a row. But at least she does return calls! The women who do referrals are nice when they are not overly busy, and referrals come in the mail promptly. On the down side, I have waited far too long for appointments, first in the waiting room and then in the exam room, and have begun to call beforehand to find out how long the wait will be. Maybe this website will encourage them to get it together a little more!

I have been going to Alameda Family Physicians for about 3 years now and have been very pleased. I am seeing Dr. Edward I. Chan, who is friendly, and is very good about answering questions and explaining things. Their front desk answers calls fairly quickly, and are polite and helpful. They are also using a system where you can get test results and send and receive messages to your doctor online. Dr. Chan answers my questions within a day at most. Overall I am very satisfied with my doctor and the office.

The doctors may be good, but they are rushed to the point that they seem inept, running from room to room trying to service several clients at a time (and pretending that they arent). Whoever is running this place care for nothing more than money and it is obvious. What good are good doctors with out good staff to support them? Awful customer service. They just dont care, and it shows. Go somewhere else and be happy. I know I am. You want to be treated like cattle, go here.

i have switched my entire family to this medical center. the wait has always been minimal and scheduling easy. the staff is kind and helpful and the doctors are competent. can i really ask for more? i am puzzled by all the negative reviews, but most of them are dated going back a few years and while they might have been fair at the time, they may not reflect the current operation of this center.
