I have been going here for about two years, the staff is horrible and very rude. They treated me like i was stupid because i was unsure of what my benefits were. Come to find out they intentionally overcharged me. My blue shield insurance covers 100% of contact exams plus $110.00 of money to use towards contacts. Dr. Prince somehow made me pay $85.00 for the exam. Now when I went to a different doctor, he was great didnt charge me anything and told me that the Optometry field is small and he had herd similar storys about Dr. Prince. Dr. Prince is a criminal and should not be able to practice. There is a reason she has switched three locations in three years, it is because her customers do not keep coming back and she has to try new ones. Do yourself a favor go somewhere else, there are plenty of qualified Optometrist in San Diego, go to one that is not going to take advantage of you.

I just read a pretty rotten review about Dr. Neville Cohen and his optician Benny Lizarrage. Dr. Deborah Prince took over Midway Optometry 5 or 6 years ago when Dr. Cohen left. Dr. Prince is the nicest optometrist you will ever meet. She really cares about people and you can tell when you get your eyes examined there. The staff is really friendly and helpful, too. When I read the bad review about Dr. Cohen, I wanted to make sure people know that he is not the optometrist there and hasnt been for many years. If you need to get your eyes checked or you need glasses or contacts, you are in good hands with Dr. Prince and staff. The office moved into the Bookstar Building on Rosecrans above Barnes&Noble. The office is cool! I will definitely recommend to everyone I know!

Dr. Matthews is an amazing Eye Doctor!!! Ignore Old Reviews for a different doctor!! Dr. Matthews is an incredible eye doctor. He is very friendly, informative and knowledgeable. He makes it easy for you to understand exactly what is going on and how to fix it. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a doctor. PLEASE IGNORE OLD BAD REVIEWS!! There are negative reviews for an previous doctor/owner that still appear even though Dr. Matthews has taken over for him. If you want an accurate review of Dr. Matthews please read when the review was posted (within a year). Youll see a incredible amount of positive reviews from people who actually see Dr. Matthews so dont let those old reviews scare you.

I would like to start off by saying Dr Matthews and his staff give exceptional service, they take their time and explain all procedures. At the last minute they were able to fit my daughter in for an appointment. I have been going to the same optometrist office for over 15 years and when I asked if they had an opening within the day or two for my daughter ( due to urgent matter ) they said no, so I called Dr. Matthews office and without hesitation they said sure bring her in. Needless to say Dr Matthews and his staff have helped me and my daughter. This is my new optometrist office.Thank you and your staff for all that you guys do. Have a wonderful everything:)

Dr. Matthews was phenomenal! If you are looking for an optometrist who will take the time to thoroughly explain the tests and reasons for why he recommends certain treatments, then you definitely need to give Midway Optometry a try. When I told him I was a medical student, he went a step further and explained the Snellen Chart to me. The cherry on top, was when I learned that he spoke Spanish! He shared his experience in Guatemala with me, and his heart of gold definitely shined through! I wholeheartedly recommend Midway Optometry to friends, family and all San Diegans!

Made an appointment today to have my eyes examined and get a new pair of glasses. Found out that the business is under new ownership and was happy with the customer service I received. I was able to get a same day appointment which made it easy for me since I am always on the go! I had my exam, talked with the doctor about my vision ( Dr. Matthews is very informative) Also picked out a new pair of glasses and will continue to do business with Dr. Matthews. Very professional and friendly atmosphere and happy to do business with them! Highly recommended.

Amazing eye technology Midway Optometry is a very friendly and helpful place to check your eyes. I had an amazing experience today in my first eye examination of my life. Arrived on time to my appointment and received immediate attention the front desk is amazing. Dr. Mathews is one of the most helpful doctors that I received care from. I will agree with the negative comments concerning Dr. Prince but! NOT Dr. Matthews, who is the new owner of Midway Optometry. When he started my eye exam, he immediately noted my cataract and referred me to a specialist. He is kind, thorough and trying very hard to improve the treatment Dr. Prince gave. His staff is very kind and helpful. I hate picking out new glasses and totally comfortable letting Dawn decide for me

I consulted MIdway Optometry and Dr. Matthews because my local opthalmalogist said there was nothing else she could do to improve my vision because of my glaucoma. Dr. Matthews referred me to a glaucoma specialist who determined that my misalignment was caused by an eye drop, which I stopped taking. My vision has improved for which I thank Dr. Matthews.
