My cat was diagnosed with chronic renal failure at the emergency vet. I visited SSDVH the very first time as a primary veterinarian for my cat under the recommendation given to me by one of the techs at the emergency hospital. When we arrived all seemed well. We were escorted to the room where the vet proceeded to tell us that she isnt quite ready to jump on the Chronic Renal Failure bandwagon (which, after MUCH RESEARCH, is exactly what all the blood counts and blood chemistries point to). She was quick to tell us this - considering she hadnt even TOUCHED THE CAT. She kept quoting one of the cats blood chemistry records *AFTER* the cat received IV fluids for 24 hours - clearly its a skewed blood panel. After she tells us that she wants to confirm things - she then tells us that she wants to do ultrasounds on the heart and the kidneys - a total cost of over $700 (JUST FOR THE ULTRASOUNDS). Then as soon as she tells us what she wants to do...she contradicts herself and says that the ultrasound of the kidneys tell her absolutely nothing and that she can tell the same things through blood panels and abdomen palpations. After Im presented with a $1500 total estimate....they tell me that I have to leave my HIGHLY stressed out cat with them. Her blood pressure was the cause of her neurologic event in the first place (minor stroke) CAUSED by the renal failure. The vet said that she wants chest x-rays, blood panels, urinalysis, and blood pressure...after the first priority of giving the cat life-saving IV fluids (cats with renal failure need fluid replacement like crazy). Then she would proceed with the EKG on her heart. However - the vet has no idea what time the ultrasound guy is scheduled to come to the office (which closes at 6). So - I reluctantly leave the cat there and advise the vet that I need to pick her up by 4:30 because I had a prior engagement. Trust me - having BEEN a vet tech it does not take more than 4 hours to get a blood sample, pee sample, blood pressure, give IV fluids and get an EKG (not to mention they had already taken the blood pressure while we were still IN THE ROOM...check one off the list). At 4pm I called the office to advise them that I am on my way over, please have the cat ready. The retarded receptionist puts me on hold....forever. I lose the signal and said the heck with it - I just drove over. When I get there (at 4:10) the receptionist tells me that the cat isnt ready. I said "what is left to be done?" and she said that she doesnt know. Seriously. So she goes and fetches the answer from the vet (who is in the next room and I can hear her) and she said that molly has had all her tests but the vet hasnt had time to look at the charts. I said "no problem - pack up the cat and I can come pick up the results and discuss treatment plans with the vet tomorrow when she has time." The vet tech (looking quite nervous at my insistence) ran back to the vet and again - tells me to come back in an hour. I dont have an hour - its already 4:30. Im late. The tech realizes that Im about to kill her and fetches the vet for me. The vet said that she wants me to bring my cat (with hypertension enough to give her a STROKE and serious dehydration) back again the next day (thus stressing her out COMPLETELY) so she can TAKE THE CHEST XRAY, ANALYZE THE URINE, READ THE BLOOD COUNTS/CHEMISTRIES, AND GIVE HER FLUIDS. Which means she only took blood and urine - in over 4 hours. My poor stressed-out cat had to stay in that hospital for half a day - clearly without anyone helping her. She never received her fluids, the ultrasound guy NEVER EVEN CAME THAT DAY. They were also supposed to call me tonight to schedule an appointment when they KNEW he was supposed to be there - did I get a call? No. Do not bring your pet to this place if you want them to live.

I can not speak highly enough of this veterinary hospital. I take my cat to Dr. McAndrew and she is wonderful. I particularly like that they treats animals with western and homeopathic medicine. The staff is always extremely kind and welcoming. They treat your pet with care and gentleness. I have also found them to be honest and helpful. I feel they are really there to help you and your pet instead of just get paid which I have felt from many other veterinary places. They are a little far for me but totally worth it. I wont go to another vet unless I absolutely have to. Highly recommended!

The doctor and the staff seem to care a lot about are pets and understand that they are part of our families This is not a fancy place but it is clean and most of all I felt comfortable having one my kittys euthanized because he was very ill so do not try to charge me in charge me she told me the truth. Then I took another pet in for an infectious now and a thyroid problem and their work is good on that as well I mean to help stabilize her thyroid

This vet will get you to pay for so much unnecessary stuff. They do this hand pulling this that supposedly tells them if the animal needs medication, needless to say that the arm pulling confirms you need to buy the medication and other tests

I had an emergency and brought my dog here because it was the closest location to me. My dog was urinating blood and had shallow breathing. They turned me away because there was no "DR patient relationship". No compassion was demonstrated.
