I FEEL A.C.C.E.S.S. SPECIALTY ANIMAL HOSPITAL AT 20051 VENTURA BLVD IN WOODLAND HILLS CALIFORNIA 91364 AT THE INTERSECTION OF VENTURA BLVD & WINNETKA AVE IS DEFINITELY NOT A PLACE TO TAKE ONES PET!!! I HAD MY BELOVED BOXER DOG OZZY AGED 7 YEARS 5 MONTHS 3 WEEKS AND A DAY AT A.C.C.E.S.S. FOR A SIMPLE CHEST TAP TO DRAIN FLUID FROM HIS CHEST CAVITY. IT NORMALLY TOOK LESS THAN AN HOUR ALL TOTAL. BUT ON JUNE 27 2017 FROM 5PM MY BOXER DOG OZZY AND I WAITED FOR 14 HOURS FOR A CHEST TAP. AT THE TIME I BROUGHT HIM IN THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CHEST TAP WOULD BE DONE RIGHT AWAY. HE WAS IN THE BACK BEHIND CLOSED LOCKED DOORS OUT OF MY SIGHT AND CONTROL THE WHOLE TIME. I WAS TOLD MY BOXER DOG OZZY WAS NOT GIVEN ANY FOOD OR WATER UNTIL THE LAST HALF HOUR AFTER THE OPERATION. MY BOXER DOG OZZY HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO SLEEP WHILE WAITING FOR THIS PROCEDURE. THIS CAUSED SO MUCH STRESS ON MY BOXER DOG AND ME! THE LACK OF FOOD, WATER AND SLEEP PUT MY BOXER DOG OZZY UNDER SO MUCH STRESS. STRESS THAT WAS SO UNCALLED FOR! THE DOCTOR IF YOU CAN CALL HER THAT CAME TO ME AND KEPT SAYING THE CHEST TAP WOULD BE DONE SOON. I BELIEVED HER THE FIRST TIME. THE SECOND TIME I STARTED TO GET VERY WORRIED. WITH NO MORE CONTACT FROM THE DOCTOR I STARTED ASKING FOR UPDATES ON MY BOXER DOG OZZY. I WAS TOLD BY THE RECEPTIONISTS AND TECHS EACH AND EVERY TIME THAT THE CHEST TAP HAD NOT BEEN STARTED BUT IT WOULD BE SOON. THE MINUTES TURNED INTO HOURS. THEN UNKNOWN TO ME AT ABOUT 5AM THE CHEST TAP MUST HAVE BEEN STARTED BECAUSE I WAS TOLD I COULD TAKE MY BOXER DOG OZZY HOME AT 7AM IN THE MORNING. I PREPARED MY SUV TO TAKE OZZY HOME. WHEN I SAW OZZY COMING OUT OF THE OPERATING ROOM AREA HE WAS BARELY ABLE TO WALK ON HIS OWN. HE LOOKED LIKE HE HAD NOT SLEPT THE ENTIRE TIME. I PICKED OZZY UP AND PUT HIM IN MY SUV. I SAT WITH HIM FOR 20 MIN IN MY SUV TO HELP HIM RELAX. I THEN TOOK OZZY HOME. WHEN I GOT HIM HOME I PICKED HIM UP AND TOOK HIM INSIDE TO HIS BED WHICH WAS ON THE FLOOR. HE IMMEDIATLY FEEL ASLEEP. I LAID NEXT TO HIM ON THE FLOOR THE ENTIRE TIME. HE DIDNT MOVE OR MAKE A SOUND. HE WAS SO EXHAUSTED FROM BEING UNDER SO MUCH UNDO PRESSURE AND STRESS. OZZY SLEPT FOR 3 HOURS STRAIGHT. HE WOKE UP AND HE HAD SOME WATER. HE STILL LOOKED TOTALLY EXHAUSTED. HE TRIED TO STAND UP. HE NEEDED HELP. I HELPED HIM UP. HE STAGGERED TO THE FRONT DOOR. I WAS BY HIS SIDE THE WHOLE TIME. HE WAITED TO GO OUTSIDE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM. I WALKED HIM LESS THAN 5 FEET AND HE STARTED TO POTTY. THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN HE MOVED FORWARD BY ABOUT TWO FEET AND TURNED AND THEN STARTED TO COLLAPSE. I HELPED HIM LAY ON HIS LEFT SIDE AND HE TOOK HIS LAST BREATH. WHEN I HEARD HIM TAKE HIS LAST BREATH I WAS DEVASTATED. MY BELOVED BOXER DOG OZZY THAT I RAISED FROM WHEN HE WAS JUST 7 WEEKS AND A DAY OLD HAD JUST SUDDENLY PASSED. I KNOW WHO THE DOCTOR IS WITH A.C.C.E.S.S. THAT PROLONGED THE CHEST TAP AND I BLAME HER ALONG WITH A.C.C.E.S.S. SPECIALTY ANIMAL HOSPITAL AS A WHOLE FOR THE UNNECESSARILY LONG DELAY THAT CAUSED SO MUCH STRESS ON MY BELOVED BOXER DOG OZZY WHICH I BELIEVE CONTRIBUTED TO HIS PASSING. I WRITE THIS AS I WOULD HOPE THAT WHEN SOMEONE DOES THEIR DUE DILIGENCE IN CHECKING FOR ANY AMIMAL HOSPITAL THEY KNOW WHAT HAS GONE ON THERE. NO ONE SHOULD EVER LOSE A BELOVED PET BECAUSE OF A DOCTOR OR AN ANIMAL HOSPITAL THAT DOESNT SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THE PET OR THEIR OWNER. ALL WHILE THE OWNER IS THERE WATCHING AND LISTENING TO THE GOINGS ON WHILE HE SITS WAITING FOR HIS BELOVED BOXER DOG OZZY. I MISS MY BELOVED BOXER DOG OZZY SO MUCH!!! THERE ARE NO WORDS THAT CAN DESCRIBE THE PAIN MY KIDS AND I HAVE ENDURED AND WILL CONTINUE TO ENDURE AS A RESULT OF OZZYS PASSING. ALL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN WAS A CHEST TAP AND AN HOUR OR SO LATER WE GO HOME. BUT NOW HE IS IN DOGGY HEAVEN AND MY KIDS AND I WILL NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN. SO LONG MY DEAR BELOVED BOXER BUDDY OZZY. PLEASE COME SEE THE BOYS AND ME IN OUR DREAMS. RM RM

I took my maltipoo who had suffered a trauma to his back. He was not walking on his hind legs and appeared to have no sensation. They took him back at 8:00 am to take his vitals. Three hours later Dr. McQuitty comes and begins to aggressively push for immediate surgery. I asked if she had given him any fluids or anti-inflammatories. She said no. When I asked to see the xrays, she informed me that none had been taken, but that shed have a neurologist consult with me. Dr. Schwartz also pushed for surgery without the benefit of an exray or any deep tissue stimulation to check for muscle response. When I told him I was going to take him for a second opinion, he suddenly asked if we wanted an xray. I told him we had been there for FIVE hours and it was now too late for an xray since we had a 2:00 appointment across town. I asked for anti-inflammatory and pain medication. Although, he agreed to give my pup meds to make him comfortable, neither he or the attending vet did so. When I asked for the records for that day, I was assured they would be emailed to me. Today is Day 8, and I have yet to receive his medical records. By the way, my pup has regained the sensation in both legs, is urinating again on his own, and is trying to stand on his back legs. Pain & anti-inflammatory medications together with acupuncture and massage are providing slow, but steady results. If you love your pet, take him/her elsewhere.

My 11 year-old dog had severe back pain one evening and couldnt walk. I took her to Animal Emergency Care Center and the young female vet was pleasant enough and gave her some meds that alleviated the pain but told me it was difficult to diagnose back problems without doing x-rays. I told her I wasnt sure about spending the money at that point and would rather wait to see if she could walk after a few days. She bluntly said, "Oh, she wont walk again" and walked out the door without any explanation. I was speechless. A few days later when her walking didnt improve I took her back and got the x-rays. It was a waste since the vet told me she couldnt tell anything from the x-rays. Luckily a friend told me about an animal care center in Calabasas with an underwater treadmill. It worked wonders for my dog and she was walking better after the first treatment. I went back for one more session and she took off after that. She is still a little weak but is walking about at 95% of what she used to. The vet assistants at the Animal Emergency Care Center were very friendly and caring but the vet I saw left a bad impression of someone who was more interested in having patients say "yes" to any procedures recommended regardless of cost rather than effectively communicating all options with pet owners.
