Late night and you think your dog has contracted Ebola, maybe even swallowed chocolate, got bit by a poisonous a Brazilian Wandering Spider? Well wherever your dark twisted mind may go, the VCA McClave Animal Hospital is open 24 hrs and has a cure for that. As a new step-dog-mommy to an incredibly adorable Papillion-mix named Rebel, I take my duties seriously and noticed he was acting a bit weird. His strange behavior included twitching legs, heavy panting, jitters and lethargy. It was unsettling enough where we believed he was either poisoned or having an allergic reaction. I was able to locate the VCA online and called them about their fees. They are 89$ just to see the dog after hours and we quickly made our way over. After a really brief check-in, the nurse took Rebel in to visit with the Vet. They told us he was abnormally shaky and his heart was racing so they proceeded to do a urine test on him. Later we discovered they were testing for drugs and other toxins that could be tested. The urine test was about 60$ or so and took over 2 hours for us to wait for any types of results. The wait seemed like eternity and they have two locations for you to wait; a common area wait-room and the individual examination rooms where the Vet will come in to go over the diagnosis. The common area wait-room has music and a Kurig machine that dispenses tea or coffee (beware the coffee as it came out a bit funky). When the veterinarian finally came in to see us she was super sweet, knowledgeable and quickly put us at ease. No it wasn’t an allergic reaction, poisonous spider bite or even Ebola, the vet let us know Rebel was behaving a bit odd with an elevated heart rate, but his behavior seemed more psychological than anything else. She ensured us we could give him a shot of fluids just in case it was something of an allergic reaction but it was not necessary. So 3 hours and over $150 hours later we left with the peace of mind that our dog wasn’t dying. So long story told above, the VCA is a great place to bring your pet loved one, emergency or not. The service was amazing and the staff was very knowledgeable.

Awful experience. Firstly I took my cat here and was charged nearly $600 and then a week later received a bill saying they forgot to charge me for something. The medicine they provided made my cat worse. I brought him back two weeks later because he had a uti that was blocked which is very dangerous for male cats. I waited over two hours for him to be seen because they did not treat it as an emergency even though it is deadly. I was originally quoted $2500 for the procedure. I told them I could not afford that and they magically offered to do it for 1 thousand. I told them i wanted to first apply for care credit. Once I finished applying- I did not get approved, I found out via a nurse that they already did the procedure without my permission. I did not agree to it and did not sign any paperwork giving the approval. I asked if it was safe to leave with my cat. They originally told me he would need to stay at the hospital for a minimum of 3 days... but when I caused a fuss about doing the procedure already they said it was OK to take him home. I told them I was waiting to see if I could get care credit to pay for the procedure and was not approved so needed more options and suddenly they said I was allowed to make payments if it were more than a thousand dollars. It was very frustrating and I just wanted to leave and when they brought the bill it was close to $800. I feel they are just throwing out numbers. Half of the staff was friendly and the other half were plain rude. I tried asking a nurse about the bill and she told me it wasnt important and if I didnt have any medical questions it wasnt her problem. After waiting over an hour they dropped $60 Off my bill which was the bare minimum they could do. As a broke college student the amount of the bill happens to be very important to me. Due to not feeling welcomed there I will definitely not be returning.

We brought in our healthy dog for a "free exam", but were charged because she had a chronic (well managed, not urgent) issue. They then prescribed her some meds that led to multisystem organ failure. When we brought her back, they failed to treat her appropriately and she died. During this whole ordeal, they were very, very rude. We were told it was our fault for not managing her chronic issues. However, when they ran a bunch of bloodwork, it revealed that her chronic issues were under excellent control. This is a dog we loved as our own, and she was so well cared for that no expense was spared to ensure her health and happiness. They were also unbelievably incompetent. They recommended a bunch of tests, and when those came back negative, they recommended re-doing them. They then suggested other expensive diagnostic tests, but without any medical indication for these tests. They provided no rationale for their recommendations and clearly had no idea what they were doing (Ive been in the medical field for over a decade). They did recommend my dog be placed on oxygen (she was having difficulty breathing), but alas, their O2 tank had run out. What 24 hour emergency vet hospital doesnt have O2 on hand?! Bottom line is VCA McClaves incompetence directly led to the death of my previously healthy pet. Throughout this whole ordeal, they showed no compassion and clearly were solely interested in upselling, recommending tests without any medical basis. They lacked the basic necessities of an emergency clinic, engaged in falsifying medical records (what they said to me was not what they charted), preyed on their clients fears, and provided substandard quality care. I am going to report them to the medical licensure boards, and am curious how many others have fallen victim to their malpractice.

Long, but worth the read! A while back I went to take my bearded dragon here for the free first time check up. The vet recommended a vitamin shot and i wasnt sure at that exact moment if I wanted to do that. I asked them if i decide to do it later can I come back and not pay the 60$ exam fee. They told me yes i could come and just pay for the shot. Long story short I got sick and had surgery and was very busy and couldnt get back to them. A month later i would call and call and the vet I had seen was rarely there and didnt fit my schedule. Later i finally just called in and told them my situation and they said they asked another doctor and he said he would do it, to just come in and he would do the shot and i wouldnt pay the 60$ for the exam fee. I got there when they told me too, i waited THREE hours until late at night...FINALLY the doctor saw my chart and saw that my first exam was free...HE TOLD ME HE WOULDNT GIVE MY LIZARD THE SHOT UNLESS I PAID FOR A NEW EXAM. I could not believe it. How hard is it to just give my poor lizard the shot which doesnt take long? I had been waiting with him for hours and hours! How rude or inconsiderate could a vet, someone who supposedly cares for animals be?! I felt so stupid and sad. They told me only the original vet would do it for me. I kept calling until finally the original vet was there...she then said it had been to long and she wouldnt do it unless it paid for a visit! What a terrible place and terrible vet. Yes it is partly my fault, but I really cant afford the fee for the exam after my medical bills and i am also a full time student trying to pay for school. My lizard has since then dropped weight and i am here searching again for a better vet.
