Several reviews highlight concerns about the diagnosis and treatment process at the center. One reviewer mentioned that their son was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type 1 after a 30-minute consultation and a two-day observation period. The medication prescribed had strong sedative effects and did not improve the patient's condition. Another reviewer also expressed dissatisfaction with the diagnosis process, stating that the staff lacked empathy and understanding.
The behavior of the staff is a recurring theme in the reviews. While some staff members were described as "empathy deficient" and "condescending," others were praised for taking safety and emotional concerns seriously. One reviewer mentioned a nurse named Laurie as the "real MVP" for her attentiveness and concern for patient safety.
Communication between the staff and patients or their families appears to be a significant issue. Multiple reviewers complained about the lack of regular updates from the psychiatrists and therapists. One reviewer mentioned receiving only one call from the psychiatrist during a 9-day inpatient stay.
The facility itself received mixed reviews. While some found it clean and well-maintained, others criticized the organization and planning. One reviewer appreciated the free, easy, and close parking, as well as the location of the center.
Several reviewers suggested alternative medical centers for mental health treatment. One reviewer specifically recommended Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, praising its communication, cleanliness, and variety of food options.
The reviews for Seay Behavioral Health Center are mixed, with concerns raised about the diagnosis process, staff behavior, and communication. While some reviewers found the facility adequate, others strongly recommended seeking treatment elsewhere.

Our son was diagnosed with depression by Dasha Joseph, PMH, MSN, RN in December 2015. He was prescribed Zoloft. After one month, he began to see things and was having feelings like he was not real. At the urging of our son’s high school and pediatrician, he was taken to the Seay Behavior Health Center, Plano, TX to be evaluated. After a 30-minute consultation with the staff and Rekah Pole M.D. at Seay Behavioral Health Center, Plano Texas on January 6, 2016, our son was given a preliminary diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder type 1. He was observed for no more than 2 days. He was prescribed a bipolar medication that had powerful sedating effects. He was given an evaluation by a Mark Fugit, Ph.D., who agreed her initial diagnosis. Despite any evidence or history. Our family filed this complaint against Rekah Pole MD with the Texas Medical Board on May 3, 2016. The reason for our complaint is despite any evidence, personal or family history she diagnosed our son with a rare mental disorder. He was prescribed serious medication that impaired his ability to function, and he never got any better under Rekah Pole’s care. In fact, his condition worsened, he was contemplating suicide and/or residential treatment because he was being given medication for a disorder he did not have. After Rekah Pole, MD said it appeared our son had a rare mental disorder no one questioned it until he was treated at a different hospital not associated with her. She told me her preliminary diagnosis after 30 minutes. Our son was hospitalized for a total of 15 days over the course of 2 stays at the Seay Center. He was unable to attend school and had to be withdrawn. His anxiety was severe, and his depression was worsening. We enrolled him in a private online high school so he would not be truant. However, he was too ill to complete any coursework. Nancy Silverblatt, MD was his outpatient psychiatrist, and she did not recognize the signs either. As his mother, I was forced to close my business due to his suicidal thoughts, so I could be with him virtually 24 hours a day. Desperate for help, we took him to be evaluated by Childrens Medical Center Dallas, Texas on April 11, 2016. They observed him for 3 days and saw evidence of anxiety and panic attacks, no signs of mania. They took him off the bipolar medication and observed him. After 5 days (approximately) he was prescribed Lexapro. He was hospitalized for 10 days in total. They diagnosed him with anxiety and depression. Our son is getting back to his usual self. Schoolwork has never been his strong suit. He is trying to complete one year of high school in 100 days, all by himself. He has no teachers, just a computer program. Our son is happy and functioning as a typical teenager despite all of this. Skip the Seay Center and take your child to Childrens Medical Center, Dallas, Texas

This facility is a nightmare. Id like to give a personal shout out to Mr. Idris, one of the nurses there, who not only was empathy deficient but also a condescending liar. When I asked to talk to the doctor regarding my evaluations and discharge, Idris told me he had already left the facility for the day. Embarrassingly enough, for him, I spotted the doctor sitting not even five yards away from me. Yikes, Mr. Idris. I shouldnt have expected much though from a man who basically talked circles around me and attempted to make me feel like a moron for not thinking of discussing my discharge with my doctor when I had the chance in my prior one on one. His words: "You really didnt think to ask? Why didnt you stand up for yourself? You should have spoken up." Nice, guy, to say to someone with diagnosed anxiety. To top it off, he confidently told me that there was no way Id be discharged having only been admitted there for not even 24 hours. Another snippet from him, "People whove just come here dont just walk out. That doesnt and wont happen." How cryptic. This was after a good round of how the only alternative was to not do the unsafe thing I did to myself in the past and my mistake was irredeemable and I should have known better. To my small victory he wouldnt even look me in the eye after I talked to my nurse and had my discharge arranged not even half an hour later. Oh yeah, my official nurse that I wasnt even acquainted with or aware of a solid two hours after being admitted. The staff kind of tosses you around with no definite plan or organization. I will make note of the real MVP of the facility, Laurie, a nurse there who was really the only one taking any safety or emotional concerns seriously. During the time period when I was waiting for discharge, she had found a drawstring bag (note: strings are a big no-no in this joint) unattended and when inquiring the staff of who left it no one owned up to it! She had the respect for herself and the facility to at least scold them how dangerous that was to the patrons there. She was the only good egg. If I could give this one less star from one I would.

I read the reviews before we came here, but we came anyways thinking surely we are different, these other people over reacted....I wish I could say we were right, but we were so wrong. RUN!!!! These social workers are uneducated, nasty people. My son is 14 and he suffers from Tourette Syndrome among other issues that we were there to address. My son has coprolalia, which is the "swearing tic". We had been kept waiting over 2 hours and during this time, my son was saying some of the more common swear words. You could tell he was trying hard to muffle his words but at times they were blurted out. Not one person questioned us about his issue. In fact, not one person made his feel uncomfortable, which is a good thing. After a 2 hour wait, we said we were going to leave (our appt was at 9, it was now 11) The receptionist understood our frustrations and found a social worker to do our assessment. We had noted in his paperwork we filled out that our son had Tourette Syndrome. When the social worker greeted us, she was unfriendly and rude. She asked us to follow her and as we got up, my son said "F you" She turned around and told him he is not to speak to her like that. My husband and I were there to explain to her that he had Tourette Syndrome, and this was his coprolalia. Again, he used a swear word. Her exact words were "This just isnt going to work then!" At this time, my husband took my son and we both told yelled to her, "He has Tourette Syndrome!" I then told her to educate herself. We walked out and we will NEVER again walk into that place again. My son was in tears!! This is a mental health center, surely they know the kids that are in there are suffering from something and this place should be well versed in all behaviors. STAY AWAY!!!!

Its not a resort people... They get the job done and keep you safe. My kid was inpatient for 9 days and then moved to the day program. There was very poor communication between the staff and I. Every time I was there I asked for information and each time they were "surprised" I wasnt being contacted each evening, promising a call that day. Still, I only received one call from the psychiatrist in those 9 days and only 1 from the therapist. HOWEVER, they did help my child and they kept her safe during a difficult time. They taught coping skills way better than Childrens. It was very clean and staff was cordial. Day program has a lot of worksheets but they also have a lot of group sessions where they work on things together. Worksheets actually help later on, so keep them. I loved the convenience of free, easy, close parking as well as the location of the center. I also found the parent meetings much more helpful than those at Childrens. I did not care for visitation hours being in the morning only. Evening visitation is much more convenient for working parents. If you dont mind being downtown, dealing with a long walks to/from the center and paying for parking, Id say go to Childrens if they have the bed available. They are very clean, friendly, less "scary" illnesses and have menus with a huge variety of foods to choose from for the day. Also they called every single day, which was very helpful and visitation was in the evenings instead of early morning every day. Oh and they dont let kids share rooms even though theyre set up for 2 per room. Seay Center shared rooms.
