Dr. Athans structurally did a good job on replacing my right knee. Unfortunately, thats where it ended. I am a 62 YO active male with a left below knee amputation. He offered no assistance in treating me other than as if I had both legs. I pushed very hard and had full,range of motion at about the 4th week. When I kept complaining of excessive pain, he just kept saying I shouldnt be. When I asked for more help with my thigh muscles cramping, he gave me a few pain killers and his nurse told me "make them last, its all youre getting". He wouldnt even consider that something was wrong. Ive been to 4 urgent cares, 2 chiropractors, 2 ERs complaining of severe pain in my thighs, knees, and buttocks. Finally a pain specialist referred me for an MRI which showed a large Extrusion at L2-L3 and stenosis in several areas. 5 full months of critical pain that I never needed to go through. Now Im scheduled for lower back surgery to relieve the pain. It seems my spinal cord is being pinched. If Dr. Athans had cared for me at all as a patient, he would have picked up on the fact that my pain was not NORMAL. Dr. Athans needs to learn to listen to his patients and get his head out of his overrated backside. Spend more than 3-5 lousy minutes with his patient and try to actually help them instead of thinking they are just asking for more drugs. I am not now, nor have ever been a drugs addict. Its very insulting to have a Dr treat you like one. I am a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist, Licensed in Florida in good standing with 38 years of experience. I pride myself on full patient care. Meaning, if my client needs 30 minutes or an hour to solve an issue, they get it. And, unlike a Dr Athans, I only get paid for the device delivered, not each office visits or exam. He gets paid plenty to be able to take the time to actually help.

I do not recommend this organization. Here is a email I sent to them after they messed up again and wanted to know about my cancelled surgery: Hello, I called and cancelled the surgery on September 26, 2016. These calls where at 09:35, 13:07, and 17:14. (9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.) When I called, I left messages and asked for a return call to confirm. You should have my number due to the fact that I left it each of the three times I called to cancel. I feel your medical "practice" is disconcerting. Since the cock-sure surgeon suggested I seek a second opinion, I did. As soon as I spoke to a real caring doctor, the high level of discomfort I felt dealing with The Florida Sports Injury and Orthopedic Institute disappeared. I felt the greatest relief when I called to cancel the surgery with your doctor. One of my favorite memories of your incompetence was when I was told two very different scenarios about how the surgery would be performed. Thank you for understanding that I believe: 1) your services leave much to be desired 2) your communications skills are non-existent 3) I am better off not dealing with an incompetent organization Your organisation has been paid in full for your "services." I expect there to be no charge for your failure to enter the cancellation in September. You were notified months ago about it and should have had sufficient time to fill the opening. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! AS A NEW PATIENT I SAW DR. MARTINEZ ON THURSDAY. HE PRESCRIBED ME LORZONE, MELOXICAM AND A PAIN CREAM COMPOUND THAT THEY HAD TO SUBMIT TO THE COMPOUND COMPANY FOR. SATURDAY I TAKE THE LORZONE AND IT MADE ME SICK, STOMACH PAINS, CRAMPS. I CALLED ON CALL PHYSICIAN WHO TOLD ME HE NEVER PRESCRIBES HIS PATIENTS LORZONE. HE ASKS ME IF I HEARD FROM THE COMPOUND COMPANY YET AND I TOLD HIM NO. HE TELLS ME DR. MARTINEZ IS ON VACATION ACTUALLY AND TO WAIT TILL MONDAY AND CALL THE NURSE. I CALL THE NURSE ON MONDAY AND SHE TELLS ME SHE WILL TALK TO HIM AND CALL ME BACK. SHE CALLS ME BACK AT 4:45PM TO ASK IF I HEARD FROM THE COMPOUND COMPANY WHICH I HAVE NOT STILL. SHE TELLS ME THEY SHOULD HAVE CALLED BY NOW. SHE THEN TELLS ME SHE WILL CALL THEM AND I WILL HEAR FROM HER TUESDAY MORNING. I ASK HER WHAT DO I DO I AM HAVING BACK SPASMS. SHE SAID ALL OF THE DOCTORS ARE GONE NOW. I WAS MISERABLE SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY WAS TOUGH. MY BACK IS ACTING UP RIGHT NOW AND I JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I CALL THE COMPOUND COMPANY WHO INFORMS ME THEY NEVER GOT A PRESCRIPTION ON THURSDAY AND IT WILL TAKE 1-2 BUSINESS DAYS TO PROCESS SO I WILL HEAR FROM THEM ON TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY AND THEN THEY FEDEX SHIP IT. THIS OFFICE IS POORLY RAN. UPDATE CALLED THE ONCALL LINE AND DR ATHENS RETURNED MY CALL. WHO STATED THEY HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES WITH THE COMPOUND COMPANY IN THE PAST. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHY DOESNT YOUR STAFF ADRESS IT.

Bobbie, Dr. Pattersons assistant is the most unorganized person ever. She made me wait over 8 days to get a prescription when it was already prescribed by the doctor and then the receptionist called it in to CVS because I was calling constantly. Now Open MRI has been calling Bobbi daily since 03/30/16 (today is 04/14/16) to get the notes from my doctor ordered MRI and again nothing. I have intense lower back pain and I cant even get Bobbi to allow me to get the MRI her boss ordered. So now I started calling the office manager because he is Bobbis supervisor I am told. Allen doesnt return my voice mails messages and twice today I asked the receptionists to get him for me and he told her he would call me back withing 5 minutes. That was 7 hours ago and I never get a call back. All of this is the absolute truth and I will let you decide if you the public wants to be treated like this! It is amazing that this office is supposed to be helping me not prolonging my ability to get treatment for my intense lower back pain. Dr. Patterson said come back once you have had the MRI but his staff keeps this from happening. UPDATE 04-18-16 Bobbi is no longer with the office I am told :-) I hope all goes well now.

I have been a patient of Dr. Varmas for over 7 years, he has treated my carpel tunnel and most recently performed a total knee replacement. The surgery was very successful and the pain relief is beyond what I had hopped for. I am only three months post-surgery, and I have scheduled the second knee replacement. I am completely confident that this surgery will be just as successful. The nurses and medical techs are very warm and caring and several have lovely smiles they like to wear from ear to ear; the insurance/accounting staff, not so much. My diagnosis of her/them begins with an over-exaggerated sense of superiority brought on by a lack of empathy and a missing sensitivity bone . This does not appear to be a contagious disease, however, as the rest of the staff are polar opposites.

The worst doctors office I have ever dealt with. I called in April to set up an appointment for May at the Winter Park office, just to arrive for my appointment to learn that they moved out of the Winter Park office in Feburary. I was not told this when I made the appointment. I called the Clermont office, confused, and was told that they didnt know why I made an appointment for the Winter Park office. They were less than accomidating after all of this. I went to the Clermont office once, which was very nice, but afterwards I called their office at least six times and only one of those phone calls was returned. From what I can tell, the doctors are very good, but the support staff is extremely unorganized, making the whole office hard to deal with an unprofessional. Im finding a new doctor.
