Dr. King, at Westside Veterinary Hospital, is the best! (And my sister is a long-time vet but I use Dr. King. That ought to tell you something.) Never once have I been treated rudely by anyone on his staff and never has anyone even talked rudely to me on the phone. Dr. King has never failed to properly diagnose my two Malinois and he has never failed to treat each one with gentleness and kindess. He spents the time making them comfortable. He always explains everything in detail and is very, very thorough. He does not rush his exams nor does he rush the clients. He is the very best with his soft touch and gentle ways around animals and this makes them so much more confortable to be there. If after a diagnosis he feels there are other viable options that are less expensive, he will tell the client what it is so the client can make a choice in their animals treatment. Also, he is very up front and will give an immediate referral if he is presented with an issue that he does not handle in his clinic, such as hormonal injections for Pyometra, severe compound fractures, etc. More than anything, he is fair in his fees and for anyone who owns an animal(s) in these hard economic times he is a God Send!! The recent surgery he did on my Malinois ear hematoma was incredible and his after care exemplary. No reason her show career is in jeopardy due to a botched surgery or improper course of action. I can not thank him enough. Needless to say, I love Dr. King and would recommend him highly to anyone seeking a vet. Just understand that his clinic does not have upteen million vets on staff, hence you may have to wait for an appointment. But be thankful for that, too....as you are guaranteed to see Dr. King and because of that you never have to worry about the cliche of "the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing." And for those of us who have had animals for as many years as I, cats, cattle & horses included, having one vet that knows your animal and being the only one that works on your animal can make all the difference in the world. Dr. King gets 5 Stars from me!!

A friend recommended that I go to Dr. King because they take their dog there. We didnt need veterinary care for our dog at the time, but we were looking to take our cats in for their annual check-up. I arrived 10 minutes early for the appointment with my cats in their carriers, and we waited for 50 minutes in the lobby. My cats were so on edge by the time we were brought back to a room after spending so long in the carriers. Then, when we entered the room, they didnt close the second door to our room, so I still couldnt let the cats out of their carriers to adjust to the space. The vet tech and Dr. King came in quickly, and they opened the carrier for my cat Harry and immediately lifted him by the scruff onto the table. Both of my cats have always been relatively good at the vet - they arent happy, but they always submit to a physical and a shot or two without much fuss. After that long wait, when they picked up my cat by the scruff without even giving him a second to adjust to the room or saying a word to him, he freaked out. My cat is not the type of cat to scratch and bite, but he clawed the vet tech through the entire examination because he was terrified. After they checked out both of my cats, giving them the same treatment, I only paid $90 for everything, so it was definitely super affordable. But I was shocked that a veterinary practice would understand so little about cat behavior. That vet tech could have saved his arm from scratching and biting if hed just taken the time to meet my cat first or even let him wander the room. I wont be taking them back there, in spite of the reasonable prices. Everyone was very nice to me, but I expect my cats to be handled better, and I definitely wouldnt feel comfortable leaving them there without my supervision given how they were treated in front of my face. Who knows? They might be great with dogs, but I had a poor experience with cats.

We were looking for a new vet in the area and at first, this place was really nice. We scheduled everything in, had both our dogs updated on their annual vaccines and had our new rescue dog neutered. About a week and half after picking up Shane (neutered dog), we noticed a spot on his underbelly and carefully shaved back the hair. Admittedly, were no vet but we checked out some local forums and the general consensus was staph infection - get it checked out immediately. I called Westside and the receptionist was far from friendly, sounded like he was forced to be there and was in general as not helpful as he could be. I explained he had a sore that we thought needed to be looked at immediately, he tried to schedule us an appointment 6 days out. I responded informing him that I wasnt 100%, but we feel it may be a staph infection and from what research weve done on canine infections as well as what we personally know with human infections, this isnt something you want to let linger for a week. No help from the vet. At all. I asked what needed to be done to determine what infection it was and was answered with typically we can tell by observation; however, this vet told us that they not only didnt have the 30 seconds (their words) to check our dog out, but would make zero exceptions for us and we would have to wait the 6 days. Needless to say, this vet has lost any future business with us. I understand they may be busy, but the (severe) lack of customer service (on top of what I, as a customer, would consider an overall rude conversation) along with unwillingness to even attempt to offer a viable solution was enough to make sure our dogs will never return to this vet.

The way a receptionist answers the phone makes a world of difference to a person deciding whether or not to use a facility. I need to take my pet to the doctor ASAP as shes having some serious problems so I decided to do my research and look for the best clinic nearby as I have just moved into the area. I decided to take her to this clinic because of the great reviews. However, when I called to make an appointment the receptionist seemed as if she had heard a million times before what I was saying and really didnt take into consideration that I needed to see a doctor today. She asked me if I wanted an appointment for Monday or Friday....I told her again that I needed to see someone today if possible. She advised me that if I wanted to come in and sit around and wait, I could, and that if they find some time they will try to fit me in. I do understand that many clinics may not take walk-ins, however there are better ways of addressing the situation other than acting like you do not care and telling someone to come in, sit around and wait until you feel like fiting them in. If the receptionist is this nonchalant I can imagine the doctors. Ill take my baby somewhere else.
