I am not usually one to complain and this review is not to bash Smyrna Animal Hospital, but to simply inform others of my experience. I have been taking my small dog, who is very well-behaved to this vet for about 5 months. The doctors seemed friendly; however, slightly uninformed at times. The first male doctor who examined my dog for her initial check up, administered vaccines and recommended that she get spayed and a teeth cleaning did not discover that she had a grade 4 heart murmur. It was not until my second visit with the female doctor that the murmur was discovered. Since she seemed more thorough, I naturally requested her for future visits.Soon after learning my pet had a heart murmur the doctor recommended that I get my pets bloodwork and x-rays done before doing any dental cleaning or other procedure requiring anesthesia to make sure my dogs heart was strong enough. At the time I incurred a financial hardship; however, I love my dog so I saved up to get her the care she needed over a period of time. I got her x-rays done at another qualified veterinarian that was more affordable and since I had spoken with them about the cost of the procedures and how I would have to get them done over time when funds allowed I was told that they would accept the x-rays from this other establishment. I spoke with Hannah on 3 accounts to get the cost of bringing my dog in for bloodwork and having the doctor look at the x-rays. She quoted me a reasonable price and told me that they would not charge me for an office visit to bring the x-rays in and get my dogs bloodwork done so I agreed for them to schedule me for an appointment. Upon arriving they took us back to a room, took my dog to get bloodwork done then brought her back. We waited about 45 minutes in the room for the doctor. The doctor finally came in as we must have been the last clients and discussed the x-rays with us. I asked a few questions in response to what she discussed, then we went to the front desk to pay. Upon check-out Hannah gave me an amount that I owed that was less than what she quoted over the phone. Being the honest person that I am, I reminded her of what she quoted because I did not want her to get in trouble. She then not only charged me what she quoted over the phone but charged me an additional amount for the visit. When I asked why they would tell me that they would not charge me for a visit knowing my financial situation and then charge me, her response was " You sat in the room for 45 minutes and asked the doctor a lot of questions. You took up her time when she could have been seeing other patients." I explained to her that I spent 45 minutes waiting for the doctor to even come in the room and simply explain the x-rays as they said she would do, but if I knew I would have been charged per question, I would have just had my dogs bloodwork done and let them call me with the results. The facts are I have never given them any trouble, have always paid my dogs bills when they were due at check out, bought medication that they recommended and been polite. They knew what they quoted me and knew what I was willing and able to pay this visit, yet decided to charge me an additional fee anyway. Due to their dishonesty, I will not be taking my pet back to this hospital. Not to mention that my dog never had coughing spells until she was given vaccines at this vet and also has bruising where the blood was drawn that the doctor said "shouldnt be too serious, just watch it a couple days." I understand that health care cost money; however, Smyrna Animal Hospital do not act as if you want to help a client in need and them take them for every dime they have.

A couple of months ago, my mother took her dogs to this hospital because it was most convenient. However, I always questioned whether or not it was actually a good place. Everything always seemed over priced and took her forever for one visit. It wasnt until our dog was on his death bed that took her to realize how horrible the place actually was. She took him in after he threw up blood the night before. The doctors ran multiple tests and kept him over night for almost a week. He showed no signs of getting better and we got the call that he would not make it through the night. I went with her to say our goodbyes and I realized how bad the place really was. His IV was not inserted properly and was dragging around with blood back in it. The doctors still had no answers as to what was wrong other than charging her a couple hundred dollars for the countless tests. Our dog could hardly move or even lift his head. At that point I told her that if he made it through the night, she needed to take him to the vet where I took my dogs. Thankfully he made it through the night and my mother proceeded to move him over to another vet. When she went in to get the paperwork and xrays faxed over, they were all very short with her. The doctor could not find the paperwork and insisted that he could find another way to fix our dog. It took multiple phone calls and going in for them to finally release our dog and send over the very minimal reports. It took the other vet a little over an hour to diagnose and treat our dog. We were able to take him home that night and he showed immediate signs of improvement. I am not sure what Smyrna Animal Hospital did to help our dog, or if they did anything at all. They put him through countless tests and kept him by himself overnight without anyone to watch him. They told us he would not make it and put us through the agony of having to say goodbye to one of our best friends. I do not recommend this place to anyone at all. DO NOT GO HERE.

My cat Zeke was scratching so bad she was losing her fur. I made her an appointment to see Dr. Wolf, recommended by a friend. I was very impressed with his gentleness with Zeke. I explained about Jakes rash and how she was losing fur. We talked to see what could cause her problems. I used Advantage 2 for fleas, however there were a few still on her. Dr. Wolf did a thorough exam and determined she is super allergic to fleas. He prescribe antibiotics and prednisone for Zeke and she received rabies shot. Zeke was feeling so much better in a few days. I highly recommend Smyrna Animal Hospital for your pets. Tell them Mary Waynick sent you. I wasnt as to give an awesome review. I am just a satisfied customer. Now time for Baby, Zekes mom, to have her rabies shot.

Ive moved quite a bit and have had to expose my dog to new vets on several occasions. It doesnt alway go well, as some vets dont have a very good bedside manner. I like this vet. I found it easy to make an appt. The staff was friendly to me and my dog. The vet rubbed and cuddled with my dog to make him feel more comfortable. And I like how they discussed various treatment options and costs with me instead of just giving my dog a whole bunch of shots without any explanation. Also, I had a problem with my dog when out of town once and the vet called me back promptly and answered all my questions. I will definitely be returning.
