We saw Dr. Cohen here for years. While he is very nice, he made a number of serious errors the care of our dog. First, when we brought her in because she had started peeing in her kennel, he failed to do a kidney panel blood test. He only diagnosed our dog with early kidney failure several months later - by accident - in pre-anesthesia blood-work for a dental procedure. Second, when a urine culture showed that our dog had an infection in her urinary tract/kidneys, Dr. Cohen prescribed a standard antibiotic without testing the culture to see if it would treat the infection. The infection turned out to be extremely drug-resistant so this course of action actually made things worse. A specialist at the Veterinary Specialty Center ordered tests on the bacteria culture and fortunately found an antibiotic that would treat the problem (otherwise our Lucy would have died). Third, when Lucy was taking this stronger antibiotic, we needed to pick up a prescription for her before going out of town. I was going to have it filled at the compounding pharmacy, but Dr. Cohen personally assured me that he had the correct specific antibiotic in stock at Wicker Park Veterinary Clinic, so my husband went there to pick it up instead. When he got home we realized that it was the wrong antibiotic. I think Dr. Cohen is a nice person and that he means well, but I do NOT trust him with the health of my precious dog. In my experience he is not a sufficiently competent veterinarian.

Such a wonderful experience! I brought my 12-year-old indoor cat here when he having occasional sneezing episodes. The staff was welcoming and friendly, and the Dr. Cohen was absolutely wonderful to work with. I fully expected to be scolded for not bringing my cat in for regular visits (he is a very healthy indoor cat), but on the contrary there was no guilt at all. He proclaimed my cat in great health for his age and did encourage me to update his shots, but didnt insist (I went with his recommendation). He checked out the sneezing issue and couldnt find any respiratory problems, so suggested it was probably a minor allergy at the house. I believe his exact words were "We could probably spend thousands of dollars figuring out exactly when is causing this, but if it doesnt seem to be effecting his quality of life, lets just wait and see if it improves on its own." And guess what? The weather changed a few weeks later and he stopped sneezing. I really cant say enough about his reasonable approach to veterinary medicine. Hopefully we wont be back any time very soon, but if we do I wont dread the experience one bit. Side note: free, adjacent parking is wonderful!

Truly the best Weve got 2 dogs we love, but tend to get in trouble with. Multiple times weve called and been seen immediately on times where our dogs have been sick, or ripped a dew claw, bleeding from other areas, or weve had a question. Weve worked with all of the staff and all of the Drs, and they are all without question the best around. They recommended trainers for our dogs, trainers, boarding, specialists, anything you could possibly need. Comprehensive compassionate care for our 2 troublemakers. They will constantly call to check up on the dogs or to see if we have any questions. Unfortunately one of our dogs is a runner, and broke free from his leash at night and was injured by a car that required us going to an after hours emergency clinic. The next day a staff member at Wicker Park Vet called to check up on our dog. As someone whos worked in human health care for a while, this type of care is very rare even for people. We love having a vet that cares for our dogs as much as we do. While we wont be in the city forever, we still anticipate going to Dr Cohen and Wicker Park Vet as long as we have dogs.

We have been taking Sofie to Wicker Park Vet since she was a puppy and have always been beyond impressed with the level of care, expertise and attention that everyone at Wicker Park Vet provides to not only our dog, but also us "dog parents." Sofie had a series of health issues when we got her, and we became very familiar with the staff at Wicker Park, and felt at ease leaving Sofie in their care. They watched her when she was not well for no charge, and even offered to take her in for a surgery after a very bad experience at the Pet ER room, which if any of you pet parents out there have been to the ER for Pets, you know what a terrible experience it can be and having someone willing to help you and provide you with guidance to ensure your making the right decision, its invaluable. Weve recommended Wicker Park Vet to all of our friends, and they have all been happy. So if your looking for a Vet in the Wicker Park and Bucktown Area, look no further that WP Vet. They have become part of our family and we are so appreciative of everything the staff, from the front desk to the Vets, have done for us and our Sofie.

Our 15 year old cat was having urinary issues.... i.e. constantly having the urge, but not being able to go. She would leave gifts in little spots all over our condo. WPVC was able to fit her in the day after I called. I kept warning the staff, her last vet had written FRACTIOUS across her records card (understatement really, evilly feral seems more appropriate). Dr. Cohen was the lucky caregiver! She hates strangers and especially when shes taken out of her home environment. The Dr. Cohen took this in stride and came in armed with "chainmail gloves" (not really, but that was my recommendation) and a towel. When those didnt prove to be helpful, Dr. Cohen brought in an awesome little acrylic airtight box into the exam room, which can be filled with "knockout juice" to make examination possible. Thankfully, a shot of antibiotics and some special food and she is back to her old cranky self. Dr. Cohen even called the next day to see how she was coming along. Very kind and nice people. A good experience all around. Bonus... free parking adjacent to the building!!!

I have only been to Wicker Park Vet twice, both times with my cat seeing Dr. Mowry. She is very sweet and soft spoken. She obviously loves that she works with animals and is very good at the details of her job. The first time I took in my cat, she had been seen by a vet two weeks ago that did not notice that she had problems with her teeth, despite the previous vet being very experienced. Dr. Mowry noticed it right away and was able to tell us what was wrong and what next steps were needed. I am now taking my cat in for a dental/teeth cleaning/having teeth pulled within the next several months and had requested a quote in order to anticipate costs. We have a family friend who is a vet, so I sent her the quote to see if she thought it was a fair price. She was actually shocked with how much on the low end of the scale the price was, especially given the neighborhood they operate out of. I highly recommend this place. Plus, it is very, very clean and the staff is very friendly.
