Where do I start?? I started taking my Australian Shepherd mix to Uptown Animal Hospital 1.5 years ago because of its amazing reviews on Yelp. To save you all the time, and to make sure this information actually gets read, I will give you the shortened version first. PROS -Appointment flexibility -Friendly staff CONS -Said I wanted 1yr shots. They gave my dog 3 yr shots anyway. Whether this was an accident, or intentional I do not know. But regardless, my dog was given a shot I didnt ask for, and I was then charged for the much more expensive 3 yr shots. -Brought my dog in for a rash on her stomach/genitals. Uptown said it was allergies, gave me a medicated wash and cream. But offered no preventative solutions. This didnt help so they prescribed an anti-biotic. -Brought my dog back in with the same rash. Again, allergies with no preventative solutions. They gave me the same 1oz cream and wash. -Brought my dog in because she VERY uncharacteristically bit my (dog-educated) 9 year old niece (whom she was raised with). Uptown conned me into filling out paperwork they claimed legally necessary, saying my dog bit someone. Uptown claimed someone from the department of health could show up at my house and take my dog away if I didnt file a report and send it in to them. Of course Uptown charged me for this service. Only to find out the paperwork wasnt actually required. I should have left after the shot mix up, but I wanted to give Uptown a chance since they had such great reviews. However they never solved my dogs rash problem! This was a horrible rash. Red, raised, raw, large bumps and she lost her fur in certain places. Finally took my dog to a different vet recommended by a friend (TLC First Animal Hospital) The first thing they asked was what kind of food my dog was eating (Uptown NEVER asked what food my dog was eating). Food allergies are the biggest cause of skin irritations in dogs. And apparently I was feeding my dog one of the worst possible foods, Beneful. When the switch to grain free chicken free diet didnt help, TLC checked for a thyroid problem. BINGO. My poor dog has had this rash for a year and a half, has gained 17 lbs, has incontinence, and unexplained aggression- all symptoms of hypothyroidism! Thanks for nothing Uptown!

Made an appointment based on the good reviews. Faxed in all records a couple of weeks before, and arrived early to fill out any other paperwork. The waiting room was chaotic, which is fine - its to be expected in a vets office. But they were checking in people who arrived after me, at various available computers. Still was able to fill out the sheet of information 8 minutes prior to my 11a appointment time. Then sat and waited for over 32 minutes. The guy who took my paperwork initially asked for clarification on what I wrote down at 11:11a and 11:15a, which makes me wonder if I wasnt checked in at all when I arrived. At 11:22 I asked how much longer I would have to wait. I was told by a guy that they moved my 11:00am appointment time back to 11:30a because I did not arrive early enough. I asked why, when I checked in, didnt they inform me my appointment was moved back a half an hour? I also mentioned they were checking in people before me, who had walked in after me. His reply was simply "well it will be about another 10 minutes, we had to move your appointment back, this is why we tell you to come early." Because I arrived only 10 minutes early, instead of 15 minutes early, they moved my appointment back by a half an hour and didnt tell me until I asked. I informed them to take my name out of their system and left. They have a policy of arriving to appointments 15 minutes early, and I arrived only 10 minutes early. Since I was the one at fault for that, I understand why I may have to wait extra, as I did not follow their rules. But if they dont let someone know that the appointment time has been moved back by a half an hour because of it, then I dont trust them to care for my dog.

What kind of veterinarians office employs front desk individuals such as "Bob" who has the authority to talk to potential clients in such a rude and condescending manner?! I had my first appointment scheduled and Bob told me that they have to have previous paperwork from my pets old veterinarian before an appointment. Unfortunately it so happened that they did not receive the paperwork from my old veterinarian so I explained that I asked the old veterinarian to fax the paperwork last week and I will try talking to them again but if you need the paperwork before seeing my pet then please reschedule the appointment for Monday. Bob later abrasively addresses me by saying "Thats not our problem that your old veterinarian did not fax the paperwork OKAY?!" I asked if I could physically run over to my old veterinarian since I just got back into town and could still come into the appointment because it wasnt my intention to cancel. Bob responded, " Thats not our problem! You have to call 24 hours ahead to cancel and you cannot have the appointment for today since you already rescheduled!" He continually cut me off while I was talking and and then said, "We will not answer anymore questions until you come in for the first appointment!" How disappointing-- lets just say that I would never go to a veterinarians office that talks to clients in such a disgusting manner when something like getting paperwork from an old veterinarian was not completely under my control.

Uptown Animal Hospital nearly killed our dog. We took our 6 month old German Shepherd in for what we discovered was a case of mange. The vet gave us Ivomec to help get rid of it (along with a nearly $300 bill). The Ivomec, which can be purchased for $30 on Amazon, was given to us with dosage instructions nearly10x(2ml to 9ml daily, increasing by 1ml daily) what they should have been. After 3 days, our dog was acting lethargic, stumbling into walls and acting depressed. I did some research online and after 15 minutes I realized that the correct dosage would be around 1ml / day without increasing the dosage at all. If our dog had been sensitive to Ivomec, I wouldnt be surprised if he would have died or gone into a seizure, and if we had continued up to 9ml we probably would have had either of those two happen. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is because the vet admitted fault when I called, and gave us free continued treatment for the issue. However, they definitely lost us as a customer, and I wouldnt recommend them to anyone.

My family and I have moved around a lot and were so pleased when someone recommended Uptown to us. My cat typically visits the vet once a year for her annual vaccinations; however, my dog, Alye, is a different story. If you can get it, shes had it! We call her the sweetest, "lemon of a dog" you could know! Upon getting heart worm (with taking the preventative meds....dont buy online!!!), Dr. Whisler, in particular, was so thorough in explaining her treatments and following up with us to make sure we were all ok! We were also taking very good care of when we realized she had hip dysplasia in both hips and referred to a wonderful specialist. I also appreciate the thought process these doctors use in treating my animals. They dont jump to conclusions and try to treat your animals with unnecessary treatments. They take one step at a time in taking care of them and are thorough to always follow through. Im sorry we cannot use their services anymore as we just moved to Dallas. Know any good vets here? Uptowns the best!!!
