This place is just in it for the money. There is no caring involved. My cat was healthy on her initial appointment. She was a stray we took in that had been around our property for months and we got her checked out. We were told she had no fleas. We paid about $370 for tests and immunizations since we had just gotten her. I thought that was fair. The next month, my cat became ill and was vomiting. When I picked her up, I saw bugs (did not really look like fleas) crawling on her face so we went in that same day so I could get her help. The staff and doc saw "no bugs" but gave me anti-nausea meds and a shot and wanted to give her another blood test and an x-ray that was about $130 for the x-ray alone. I knew she had not swallowed anything because she is finicky so I declined the x-ray but they were still persistent. They gave her a blood test for about $80 in-house. That was in addition to the visit, the anti-nausea medication and a shot. When they wet her neck and shaved it, they saw tons of fleas. So then we bought a spot treatment at their office. My poor baby was probably anemic. She was still vomiting with the anti-nausea medication. They said if the meds and shot did not make her stop vomiting in two days, she would have to be hospitalized (for $700+). We procrastinated for an extra day. Out of desperation, we bought Science Diet for Sensitive Stomachs and she was instantly better, eating and holding down her food and water! It is about two months later now and she is doing well and is her old self again. Well, she recently got fleas again which was our fault, so while we were moving to a new place, we boarded her for a day and ordered a Capstar tablet to kill the fleas. I was asking for quotes (I had to ask four different people and wait for almost 30 minutes for direct answers and they were not even busy!) for a bath and I was told that the bath would be (a cheap price, I forgot how much) but I would also have to pay for another blood test (I would get a discount because she already had two in the past two months) and about $80 for sedation (!) because it is a cat. So why quote the cheaper price when the real price is over $130? Then, I had made it clear that I just wanted quotes and they were going to get her to perform the services already!!! When my husband picked up our baby at the end of the day, the male tech put a towel on the back of her neck and tossed her in the carrier like she was a piece of trash!!! She is a very sweet and loving cat to everyone. She hissed at this boy. I have found another Vet on West Ave. and his reviews are excellent. I called and asked for charges on a flea bath because I found a coupon and the person answering the phone said that was the price and there were no hidden charges! I am only rating this VCA one star because at least my cat did not die in their care!

I would not reccomend this place to anyone with real concerns about their dogs. I took my newly adopted puppy to this vet clinic where the receiving staff were awesome. The two at the front desk were perfect, polite and got us in very quickly. It was when we met the tech that things started to go sour. Right away he talked to us about prescription dog food that he was incredibly persistent in selling. Then he told us whatever food we had was just not good for her even though he really had no idea what we were feeding her, he pretty much alluded that because we bought a brand name dog food we had no idea what we were doing. We tried to tell him our concerns about the dog who we had only had about a week, but selling their dogfood seemed to be the highest priority. Then the actual vet saw us. She was incredibly condescending and mentioned green beans too many times to count. She called my dog fat without taking into account her breed (she was within the right weight for a female in her breed) and that is pretty much all she cared about. Trying to give this office a chance, I asked her to check the dogs teeth because I was worried about infection on account of her abnormally bad breath. She didnt even look, she said "Oh shes a year, shell be fine." Two months later, my boyfriend and I have found a completely black tooth that looks dead and rotting. If she had looked at it when I asked her to I could have dealt with it sooner. Instead my dog has been suffering and I had no idea. We are pretty sure she will have to have some sort of surgery to take the tooth out. Who knows? Maybe we could have saved the tooth, maybe saved her some pain and discomfort but I guess that takes a back seat to overly expensive dog food at this place.

I took my Pit Bull/Chocolab mix Nalani in for her very 1st check-up this past Feburary 2012 and I have nothing but positive things to say about this clinic! Nalani was so comfortable there, she started getting nosey! She wanted to sniff everything (and everyone) in sight!! Dr. T was so gentle with her and explained what was happening and was going to happen to Nalani. The nurse who helped Dr. T with my baby was as gentle with her as if she were a HUMAN baby! The nurse spoke to Nalani, answered questions I had and pretty much made me GLAD I chose Oak Hills! Yes, they are a bit pricey, but to my way of thinking, you get what you pay for! Id rather pay good money to have my baby treated properly, lovingly and respectfully, than to save a few bucks and have Nalani so scared out of her wits, she wouldnt want to go to ANY vet clinic! Those negative comments from ppl are so far out of the realm of what I experienced! Granted, maybe a couple of those things happened, but they can happen at ANY animal clinic, not just Oak Hills! I WILL stay with Oak Hills until the day our Nalani crosses over the Rainbow Bridge! Which I hope & pray wont be for many, many yrs!

I moved from Dallas not too long ago and I had used a VCA vet up there and glad I had found one in San Antonio right down the street from me. Ive taken both my kids to this location a few times when Gaston(dog) was sick and one time for Pumpkin(cat) for an annual check up. Every time they were greatly taken care of and we are always greeted with a smiles as soon as we walk in. The Veterinarian is nice and knowledgeable. She always seems happy to see my babies and I trust her to offer me the best options for them. The Vet did offer me a prescription food for only a week just because the situation called for it. And it helped! Then my pup was able to transition back to his normal food. Prices are never the fun part but the test/machinery arent cheap and anyone here to complain about it needs to understand 1. The vets and staff dont make the pricing. 2. Owning an animal is expensive. They get sick just like we do. Before getting one you really need to take this into consideration. I think they are an awesome, caring team all together and I would highly recommend them to any pet owner. Love, Sarah, Gaston and Pumpkin <3
