CAUTION! … If you are looking for a vet to do regular check ups and shots, these guys have always appeared do a good job. The staff is very nice and they are easy to schedule appointments with. They operate a clean location and the resident cat is absolutely one of a kind. All that being said, my most recent experience with my late cat, Fitz, at Mass Ave Animal Clinic is the reason for my caution. Fitz became very sick last week and it was clear that we might only have limited time with him. After being initially seen, it was a real hassle getting them to give us a clear plan of treatment or palliative care when we brought Fitz to their office last week. It took a fairly demanding phone call just to get the doctor to walk my wife and I through a plan and what our options were. My wife and I both love our pets and have been through end of life issues before… We understand there are no promises, however there are certain reasonable and professional expectations. In the last step of the treatment plan with the vet, Fitz was given a B12 shot. He returned to us without the doctor saying anything. Fitz now had dilated pupils and was panting profusely. I asked if this was a normal reaction, and the technician said, “Yes.” Twenty-four hours passed with no change in symptoms. I called to touch base at 5:30PM (they close at 6:00PM) to see what was wrong. They said, “The doctor will call you back." The Vet had not called, so I called back at 5:55PM and got the following response: “The doctor just left, if you would like to make an appointment in the morning, we can do that. The other option is taking Fitz to the Emergency Clinic." Fitz was in obvious pain and we felt the end was near. We took him to the Emergency Clinic and were told, This was not a reaction to the B12 shot. This is what cats do when they are in severe abdominal distress. This really hurt my wife and me knowing that our pet had suffered so much and so needlessly his last day. Fitz was put to sleep on March 24… He was 7 years old. We have never received a follow up call from Mass Ave to ask how Fitz is, what happened, or to offer condolences. Please use caution if you decide to use these guys as your vet. Though they did a good job in the past with routine appointments and care, they really disappointed and hurt us when it counted most. Fitz was just a cat to most people… but he was a part of our family and we loved him. We really cared for him and it really hurts to know our vet didn’t seem to share that love and care… That’s what vets are supposed to do. We still have Wesley… a younger cat that is also part of our family. We will be vigilant in the future to only entrust his care to vets and clinics who share our love and concern. We will not be going back to Mass Ave Animal Clinic and will not recommend them to others who care about their smaller, furry, family members.

Edit: I am adjusting my rating from 5 stars to 2 stars. I purchased the puppy package for my new puppy which seemed like a great idea at the time. "Everything is included" I was told "even his neuter". Perfect, right? No. My account was deducted a nail trim, with out it ever happening. I was charged for recommended proprocedures during the neuter. The girl who checked me in got frustrated with me and told me "I cant tell you what to do". Excuse me, but thats what I pay you to do! I am not a vet! I need YOU the PROFESSIONAL to tell me whats necessary. And it was an extra charge? Either it shoud be included in the "inclusive" price, or its not needed. Then I was charged for a med refill I was told I requested (I didnt) and another charge with my "inclusive" microchip. The discharge was a joke, waited for 40 min, then was handed dog, wearing cone that he is too short for and it was tied around his neck with gauze. No real discussion of other methods for lick prevention even when I asked. Im tired of driving all the way here for bad communication, extra charges and what feels like zero craps given. I just had my first appointment at this location and it was great. They gave pup a ton of treats and made her feel so comfortable. She was more relaxed than usual at a vet. They gave me a ton of information since Im new to town and even have text message reminders for appointments. So far, really impressed. And parking wasnt bad! I expected it to be super crowded on street parking but I found a spot right away.

I have two rescue cats that HATE going to the Vet. As a side note their "daddy" doesnt much care for the doctors office either! Because nothing else had worked to avoid it, I had both cats front paws declawed this past Thursday. Having just moved to downtown Indianapolis, I used the reviews on Google and other sites to make my decision. I also called one other vet in the downtown area. Their estimate was $300 MORE for the two cats than Mass Ave. Animal Clinic. The staff at Mass Ave Animal Clinic is so friendly and professional. Ken saw me at my drop off visit and was very helpful in explaining the procedure and what to expect after I got my kitties home from surgery the next day. One of the doctors that I had spoken to when I first called to make the appointment was in the hall and talked with me as I was leaving. He was very friendly and reassuring. My kitties are home now and mending from their surgery. Both are rescue cats and were not happy to be at the vets nor were they friendly with the staff at all. I appreciate so much the kindness and patience of the staff with my two cats. I know they were a couple of terrors to deal with the day before Halloween. :-) I do highly recommend this Clinic to anyone with cats or dogs that need a competent, very reasonably priced veterinarian for your special pets. This will be our Pet Clinic for at least as long as we reside in downtown Indy.

Fine if your looking for a place to get flea and heart-worm prevention. If youre looking into a place to have your pet go under the knife I strongly urge you to reconsider. My puppy had a undescended testicle that took a long time to find in the abdominal cavity as well as the removal of the other testicle. Within 42 my puppy had an internal infection that required the emergi vet to reopen him. When I ask the for potential scenarios that caused this every one involved the operating table. Visit #2 to the Emergi-Center was bc I thought my puppy got his sutures out of his testicle. I explain my concern and he says not to worry, his wife works at Mass Ave and that this is something new in veterinary school to leave an opening in the testicle so drainage comes out. Brings me to me going in to get his staples out yesterday and yet another doc to take a look to make sure its okay, explained the conversation with the ER doc, and see if he needs antibiotic. He looks at the opening- gets my puppy antibiotic. Today, the CEO gives me a call to address the issue- and I learn they didnt leave a hole in the testicle! This place is a sloppy unprofessional mess!
