My children had been visiting BGIMP since they were born. We had gotten used to the wait times, getting taken to a room 15-20 minutes after your scheduled appointment time and then waiting another 20-30 minutes for the doctor. We eventually got used to checking in on the ipad, where you would get settled with your kids in the lobby and theyd immediately call you up to the desk, negating the point of checking in on an ipad. But something you should know about BGIMP is they believe there are two circumstances when it comes to the health of your children: either they are healthy enough to be scheduled for an appointment a few days away or your child needs an emergency room immediately. There is very little room in between. This practice does not welcome walk-ins. They do chastise parents that bring their children in without an appointment. This has happened more than once, but the last straw was the time my sons bowels became impacted. We didnt know this was what happened, I only knew he had been constipated for a few days and couldnt sleep through the night without waking up crying several times because of stomach pains. Not wanting to rush to the ER over something that was not an emergency, just an urgency, I decided to bring him in, knowing the weekend was close. I chose not to call because it was early afternoon and they consistently returned calls anywhere for 3-5 hours after a voicemail was left. The one occasion my wife needed the on-call doctor, we never even got a call back when the on-call doctor didnt pick up. And we certainly didnt get an apology. My doctors nurse came out when I brought my child in acting exasperated with me and said, "Well, I really wish you wouldve called." I explained my reasoning for not calling, feeling the situation was urgent and she gave me more attitude. We let let the front desk know we were leaving after not feeling very welcome. After a visit to UrgentCare, we found out my child had strep and impacted bowels. Certainly not worth a $1,500 ER visit, but something that needed to be addressed quickly. I never received a call offering an apology for Dr. Mayfields nurses behavior. I realized that a childrens practice that doesnt accept walk-ins and gets irritated when your child is in need of appointment-less care is a risky thing for parents who actually care about the health of their kids. We are currently at a practice that does accept walk-ins, that does answer the phone when you call, and that does get you in to see the doctor literally 10 minutes after arriving for your appointment, every time. It can be done, folks... BGIMP just refuses to do it.
