I had an appointment at this pain clinic where I saw a resident and Dr. Schector. I am in my late 20s and have had chronic pain for over half my life in my foot due to a traumatic injury. This is the worst pain clinic I have ever been to and I cannot believe it is associated with such a good hospital like Johns Hopkins. I was treated with suspicion because I have used narcotic pain killers for years and was looking for someone else to prescribe them for me as they work and I recently moved away from my old doctor. They also told me I likely had opioid-induced hyperalgesia and they wanted to taper me off my narcotics and put me on high amounts of gabapentin so that I would be dizzy (their actual words) to see if that would work. I disproved their theory of the OIH with a temporary treatment that greatly improved my pain while I was still on the opiates which supposedly caused this syndrome. They did not look at any of my records I brought with me and the resident that I saw basically just glazed over as I described my orthopedic surgeries. She then recommended basically every pain management treatment they offered which I had already tried, such as injections, radiofrequency ablation, physical therapy, pain psychology, antidepressants, and the aforementioned gabapentin. They looked at me like I was crazy when I said that I didnt want to try a spinal cord stimulator due to the risks and the research that I had done on the dangers. Overall I felt very insulted and invalidated by their "treatment" and never went back. I found a real pain clinic willing to work with me on staying on my narcotics and now I am getting off of them in the future because I found an orthopedic surgeon who recommended a brace that will help. In short, dont waste your time with these clowns.

Have been a Hopkins patient for many years. Had my first appointment with Pain management team today and was totally impressed with everyone I came in touch with. Much better care here then at my other orthopedist and pain group. Hoping their treatment plan will help. Only reason for four stars was that the reception ladies are not very friendly or very helpful.

I made an appointment and traveled four hours and one night to see my doctor to be told that they mistakenly cancelled my appointment. Patient quality care is overall care not just the meeting with the doctor!
