I chose JH because of the name, and so far it hasnt lived up to that name. My first encounter: I made an appt. at 8 AM so that I could miss minimal time at work. I get there, the doors are locked. They didnt open the doors until exactly 8 AM. Then when I am checking in, they tell me my doctor canceled all her appts. for the day because shes home sick. OK, people get sick, but now Ive missed work for no reason. The good news was that they got me in to see a different doctor. This doctor (whom Ive since dropped) I saw maybe four times. Every time - except the first - I had to wait between 30 minutes and close to 75 minutes to be seen. Then I was hurried through my appt. while the doctor typed my comments into the computer, seldom looking at me. Then the doctor jumped right to suggesting all kinds of prescriptions. I dont like to take prescriptions unless its necessary. I told the dr. I have over-the-counter allergy pills at home that I like just fine, but the dr. writes me a prescription for psuedoephedrine (which I never filled). I changed doctors to Dr. Tang. She is wonderful, she listens and doesnt hurry me. But now I am trying to get a referral to a specialist. The office policy is that you have to see your dr. for the problem before you can get a referral. Since I only saw Dr. Tang for a yearly physical last time, even though we discussed my problem, I still have to go in again to ask for a referral. Now I need to make 2 dr.s appts. just to see one doctor. I will go in for about two minutes to ask for a referral (which, at many offices now you can just email your dr. and ask for one...but not here). More time off from work when I dont have the time to take. Also last year I had an emergency and had to go to urgent care. They told me to see a specialist ASAP, like now. At first when I called JH for a referral, I was told that I had to come in to see the doctor, and the referral would take 3 or more days. It was only when I told her it was an emergency that I actually got a referral, and Im still surprised about that. Thankfully I have government insurance so theres no co-pay, but I think they do the whole referral business just so they can bill the government/insurance company again for a visit, which I dont think is right. The point is, I have a choice when it comes to healthcare. I chose Hopkins because of the prestigious name. I am now considering going to a different plan.

The billing department at this office has no idea what they are doing. Claims were submitted *fraudulently* under my husband’s name (who is not even a patient of the practice) for vaccines on my 1 month old daughter back in January 2016. Our insurance company (Aetna) denied the claims. After receiving a bill and looking further into the claim I was able to figure out what went wrong with the help of my insurance company, not Johns Hopkins billing. Aetna explained that JH’s submitted the claims under my husband instead of the patient who was seen (my daughter). I have been back and forth with this billing department at least 10 times and even 3-way called them with Aetna to have them explain their error and tell them to resubmit the claim for the proper patient for payment. I figured I would give them a chance to fix it and make things right (since again the error was on their part and I’d like for my daughter to grow up knowing the same pediatrician). Now, 7 months later I get a call from collections! Johns Hopkins has a separate billing department, errors like this should not happen, they should take the time to read through the notes of concerned patients when they call and figure out the problem before resorting to just shipping good patients off to collections. And the worst part is my insurance company is showing that the claim was paid and my responsibility is $0.00! I did like my doctor and the staff at the office was friendly, but I cannot continue to go to this practice if the billing department does not know how to properly process claims.

I am a new patient to the practice and I have to say I am pleased with the physician so far, however, MOST of the staff are VERY unprofessional and rude. They lost my new patient paperwork so I had to fill it out twice and its pretty lengthy. But I have to say that the "medical assistants" are the worst. They dress unprofessional and speak to you as if they are annoyed that they have to ask you 5 questions and take your blood pressure using the machine. Even though I am a new patient I had stopped by the office a few times prior to my new patient appointment to check the status of my medical records a being transferred and thats how I found out someone lost it. When I stopped in there a second time to check the status the receptionist was extremely rude and refused to listen to my question, let alone answer my question about my records. She and another receptionist wanted to get me out of the office because they were ready to leave for the day, even though their doors were open and there were 2 other patients waiting to check out. So seeing as how I was treated before being an actual patient, Im to assume that the staff will continue to show a lack of professionalism. But as stated earlier, Dr. Craig was very nice and she took a lot of time with me and she seems very thorough.

We had used the Odenton Office prior to the Glen Burnie office. I had Dr. Chea when she was at Odenton and found her to be very professional and trustworthy but a healthy heap of cold bedside manner, but I could work with that. I came to Dr. Chin at first and was ready to buy new insurance just so I never had to go though the completely A type personality who only saw paperwork and errors, not a suffering patient in front of him. He had to be in a particular room with irritating music, and he was condescending when he spoke to me. He was more concerned about promoting his side business than figuring out why I was in pain for two days. I gave the office one last chance and found Dr. Tang, who is everything I want in a doctor for both me and my kids. She has the right balance in every way, I love and respect her... it was a close call but I found the gem. I wish the offices worked better together between Glen Burnie and Odenton, because sometimes its just easier to hit the other office, but everyone is a stickler for paperwork.

I called the central appointment line a little after 8am on a Friday morning hoping to get in a.s.a.p. A triage nurse called me back with in an hour or so to go over my issues, within a few min she was able to schedule me an appointment with a call time of 11am. I had never been to the Glen Burnie location before but was in the system from seeing another doctor at the Canton Crossings location. When I arrived early for my appointment the staff was courteous and very nice. I waited the true 15min and was taken in for my appointment promptly at 11:15. The Nurses were wonderful and Dr. Chea was amazing and didnt leave me waiting very long in the room either. Over all my experience was quick and painless and half the time it takes to be seen at Patient First or any other urgent care facility. Normally I dont write many reviews but since my experience surpassed my expectations I figured Id share the love.
