Staff were extremely abusive and dishonest, I even witnessed some of them laughing at a woman with a disability. I have PTSD and suffer from flashbacks and night terrors involving the way they treated my partner and I. The management is absolutely callous and flippant, I filed a complaint and they made it painfully obvious that they have no concern for integrity, accountability or compassion. They were extremely rude and dismissive and sent us two letters which completely contradict one another, one deeming unwanted sexual contact by security staff as appropriate and another saying it never happened. This place is just Orwellian. They violate your rights, laugh at you, and press charges if you try to defend yourself when they attack. They even lied in the medical record and when I informed their patient relations they said "if you disagree with it you can file for an amendment." As though fraudulent medical documentation is okay if you treat it like an opinion. My partner and I are scarred for life, and the higher ups there would rather lie and at the same time accuse me of lying and refuse to identify the people who mishandle patients than actually do something to hold those thugs accountable. I do not feel safe at EMMC because of the abusive ER and security staff, the absolutely clueless rubber stamp they call "Patient relations" and of course the extremely arrogant, cruel, and just plain rude director of the ER, who refused to answer simple questions and hung up on me instead of just acting like an adult. I will avoid this abysmal hospital the best I can and I suggest you do the same because in my experience they actually did more harm than help, and dont even have the integrity to ensure bullies on their staff are even kept away from victims upon request.

I would have to give this Hospital a 5 star rating for the excellent care my mother has received from them! From the moment she arrived in critical shape back in the beginning of the month to this day, I and my family have been nothing but impressed! I am from Massachusetts and we are supposed to be known for our medical care, but I would have to say that this facility put any hospital that I have been to either for myself or with family and friends, to shame! This includes a lot of the big names as well. The amount of care and I mean care they have shown her has left me jealous. From the nurses in the ICU to the lady in the cafetiere that helped me find what I was looking for, every one of them greeted me with a smile and an approachable attitude! Not to mention the trauma team!!! Wow when they say they will do their best I truly and wholeheartedly believe them! I believe that each and every professional person that has come in contact with my mother has treated her with the same special love and care that they would want for their own families! I found that her room was spotless at all times and they turned her so often it appeared as though my mom was moving of her own free will. Every time one of the nurses entered her room they would talk so nicely to her and they explained everything (even if she wasnt awake). My mom was always kept clean and neat as well. These people are heroes in my book!!! and I wouldnt have been able to come back home and tend to my own life if I wasnt 100% confident in where she was! Thank you all so much!!!

Almost always takes 4 hours to be seen let alone actually taken care of even when you get a room. My personal experience as well as family and friends say that you are paying to sit, sleep, and watch TV. You might get your vitals, blood, and urine tests. Then you will be forgotten. If you get treated, you will be ridiculed and possibly lied to about your diagnosis. I was told I had a stomach flu, the paperwork I had handed to me said it was stomach problems caused by anxiety. They didnt even ask if I had other problems, like gallbladder problems or Crohns or a food allergy. Didnt look into possible overdose or anything. Im glad I wasnt dying cuz I would have died of the heart attack I was thinking I was having at the time as it fit EVERY symptom. It took a friend of mine nearly a full two days to be brought into a surgery, even after being told after day one if he didnt go in when he had hed already be dead, which in my mind would mean theyd expedite the process as he was a ticking time bomb. I want to say wonderful things as it does have some of the most up to date equipment and is helping progress continue. Unfortunately, the management and staff seem to care less about people as a whole, as well as individuals, and more about business and money. I understand that money is a huge reason why its doing well and, apparently, always expanding and having construction done; but the reason these people are in the business is because they supposed to actually care about helping, treating, and possibly curing people. Its a shame to the trade.

Even though there were times I received fair treatment most the time I did not. Also considering family and friends that also received services Id have to say that I am extremely disappointed. I give overall quality of all services an F be it from ER to check ups, to any other services offered there. Also a lot of staff seemed to be rude, unprofessional, and the ones that were nice seemed to be "acting" rather than sincere. I could list out all the things I didnt like from the sloppy doctors work to the boorish staff that use the local bus stop as a smoking shelter and blow smoke in patrons faces, to the treatment some of the burnt out nurses give everyone (I understand that nurses work hard and they have to deal with some horrible visitors but they seem to take it out on innocent patients and clients that dont deserve the attitude problems). And too many times Ive seen people get serious infections from the operations there or their surgery was botched somehow. All in all the entire area is lacking in so many ways its not even funny that is why we moved out of state. Im surprised not to hear of some huge Law Suit against EMMC or some huge Scandal break out by now. We moved because we didnt want to stick around to see Bangor finally go down hill. Everything from Physical Health Care to Mental Health Care is seriously lacking real quality. Same for their local colleges like UMaine. We just did NOT feel safe in an environment like that. Moving away was our best decision.

While my boyfriends mother was away, they tried releasing his grandmother. She has no ID, no ride without his mother, and is IMMOBILE!!! She lost all mobility within the span of around 3 weeks. They told her they were taking her into surgey in the morning, then told her again that they were releasing her! She was treated like crap, ignored for hours on end, and cried almost the entire time from her treatment, not even pain!! They finally released her telling her that she needed to do physical therapy before they would operate on her. She got a little bit better for about a month. Now its a month later and shes in again because she cannot walk. They released her telling her shes fine when she could move her toes. Her swollen ankle was apparently from not walking on it. Im not a doctor but can tell its all bull. 2 days later, she gets taken back in, told she has an infection, and finally is getting taken into her surgery in the morning that she was supposed to get over a month ago!!!!!! Get it together people! I understand that they can be busy but I would NEVER want to be taken here if I have an emergency. Overall, obviously not recommended!!!! Edit!!: tried releasing her again before her surgery!!! Absolutely ridiculous.
