the N.T.P. Program (narcotics treatment program) is the most accomodating of all 3 methadone programs in Bangor. They really need to work on expecting clients to drop everything to do what they need done yet barely responding at all when a client has a need for a phone response or appointment even if the client specifies its urgent. The I.O.P. Program has improved a lot and is great.Ambulatory where you see a psychiatrist for meds are more concerned with liability or covering themselves than with helping a patient. My therapist made me switch to another med practice after he watched Acadias docs let me get so bad over a 1 year period that i couldnt function day to day due to their fear of giving me a med that has the possibility of addiction. instead i got on meds that made me gain 140 pounds and unable to function or express my emotions or issues. they called this success because i was so drugged i didnt or couldnt LOOK like i suffered with anxiety. however i was screaming inside!! 2 weeks on new meds with the new provider and everyone i saw was noticing!!Inpatient units are very comfortable with mostly great psych techs.

I wouldnt say its the best place around but its basically all Bangors got. Im not saying its bad either just I think they could be better. I had to find an IOP program somewhere else because they kept giving me the run around on the phone for a good month. Transferring me back and forth to peoples voice mail and going in circles until I gave up. I was a patient there back around 04 and they mixed up my meds with another patient and when I brought it to their attention I got a lecture from both the nurse and a doc there about "how not to tell them how to do their job", when all I was doing was simply asking them to double check because the pills they gave me didnt look like mine. As it turns out they had my meds mixed up with someone elses but still gave me an attitude about it. I feel I was given good enough treatment there but it could have been better. Bangor Maine isnt a great place for Mental Health Care. But its not the worst either.

The psychiatrist treated our daughter who had severe depression. She kept her there without telling her or contacting us in order for us to take her to Canada where we have free healthcare. The bill was mounting and that was the purpose. Moreover, our daughter who was a student at Maine University could not finish her first year (she was kept in hospital for more than two weeks), she had to finish it off in Canada. Had she not been for that doctor and the coaches at Maine University, she would have been a student there. Very, very disrespectful behavior even though she tried to appear she was caring for our daughter. It took us ten days to get in touch with our girl. The hospital would not give us the right to discharge her. What a shameful behavior. Doing business with patients health. So low.

i had already been referred for med management and counseling, but I went inpatient b4 I could make it to my appts. the Dr I had only focused on my pain and not the reasoning I was asking help for (depression and anxiety). I was prescribed meds and discharged within 48hrs. I was home for the wkend, which I have no recollection of due to the meds given. I went back and became inpatient again. some of the staff were supportive and helpful. many others were down right disrespectful. the services need to be created for each individual not universal. we all have had challenges!

I hated being there. I saw a doctor for only two minutes. He wrote an asinine diagnosis for why I was there. His name is Dr. Ohuoha, and he cannot listen and understand in two minutes the reasons I told him I was there. Its the same story, doctors cannot make accurate assessments. I would advise no one visit that place. It made things worse for me, not better at all. It was a complete waste of time, energy, money. They feed you poor quality food and pretty much ignore you. You dont get to meet with a doctor in a real clinical setting. This place is a scam. Avoid it.

Acadia Hospital was and is a life saver. The therapists I had, the in patient workers I dealt with, were great. My opinion was taken into consideration with everything. I can honestly say that without the help of this hospital, I would not be alive today, and I would not be clean from cigarettes, cutting, and purging. My life was turned around when I got help here, and if ANYONE is feeling like they even just want someone to talk to, Acadia has a hotline you can call. I am so thankful to all the workers there.

People are nice, caring but lack critical thinking skills. Push pills instead. My experience is they place little value on patient input, dont understand bio-chemisty or genetics and appear to believe they are more intelligent. If ones wishes to go around in circles with their mental health this is the place for you. Diet, exercise and life-learning is a cure if you really want one.

Acadia hospital has the best NTP program I have ever been to. I myself have been to seven diff clinics across the usa. Acadia actually cares, unlike other clinics whom only care about the money. Acadia wants the client to get better. I have been ar acadia for three years. Thank you acadia hospital for changing my life. Special thanks to the NTP staff and supervisors.

One of the worst hospitals Ive ever dealt with. Unfortunately the only place close by that isnt just an in patient center, the staff, nurses and ever doctors are just terrible. They do not care about you, they have incredibly high patient standards but hold none to themselves. Would rather drive to Portland if it means dealing with people with common sense.

I really dislike the security guard at the entrance. Im tired of having my personal space invaded, just to enter the building and get the help Im looking for. Im pretty sure they arent allowed to touch us, yet they do... Get a clue, stop invading my space!
