PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE ANYWHERE ELSE... Don’t you love it when you finally find a gorgeous pair of shoes that fit perfectly, are amazingly comfortable, they match every outfit in your closet and best yet, you can afford them! This is precisely how I feel about Abingdon Family Dental. A little back story so youll understand why I say the things I do… since 1987, I’ve been a patient at 4 different dental practices. Ultimately leaving each practice for one major, or several minor reasons. I’d had it with the last practice when one of the dentists advised me that the pin hole sized cavity I was having filled would likely need a root canal. What? No thanks. I’ve already had two root canals, which by the way were no big deal, but they were incredibly expensive. Seemed every time I went in for something minor or even a cleaning, bad news was being delivered to me with a feverish sense of urgency. I’d been a patient there for almost 10 years but I was not going back. Once again I was looking for a new dentist. It was January 2014 when I opened my mailbox to find a mailer announcing Abingdon Family Dental was accepting new patients. I called, asked if they accepted my insurance, scheduled an appointment for two weeks later. The day before my appointment I felt the old anxiety bug crawling up my back. The day of my scheduled visit I actually picked up the phone to cancel but forced myself to hang up and just go. Keeping the appointment was one of the best things I did last year. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, polite, and always professional. There arent enough words to adequately describe AFD, just try them, Im confident youll like them as much as I do. Drs. Tessa & Edgar (their first names) are amazing! Both Doctors took the time to listen to my concerns and address any of the issues with which I had questions. I never felt rushed and they didn’t inject anything into my gums and leave me for 20 minutes. [sound familiar?] Their offices are super clean and nicely decorated. Installed in the treatment rooms you’ll find state of the art equipment along with advanced leading edge laser technology that I have yet to see in any other practice. Without writing a book here, I’ll simply say that I’ve searched for so long to find a dental practice where I was treated with respect, professionalism, patience, compassion, and a sincere interest in my dental health. Connecting with Dr. Tessa and Dr. Edgar has seriously changed my view of dentistry. No longer am I afraid. I highly recommend this practice to everyone! Youll have a refreshingly positive experience, of this I am certain. Thank you Drs. Tessa & Edgar! In you I have found great comfort and a perfect fit!

Ive only recently switched to Abingdon Family Dentistry as my dental practice, upon recommendation from a friend, and am very happy with the quality of service that Ive received there. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful, and they make the whole going-to-the-dentist experience much less painful. They are also very nice, considerate, and willing to work with you. When I got strep throat over the weekend before I was due to come in for a check-up/cleaning, I called in and left a message with them, and come Monday morning, they had no problem post-poning my appointment until I was completely better, with no charge or penalty. Another time, I had a migraine on the day that I was supposed to come in to have dental work done, and when I called them, they were sympathetic, helpful, and worked to fit me in for another appointment the very next day! When I saw Dr. Edgar for my 1st cleaning, and mentioned my headache and TMJ issues, he took the time to talk with me about them, told me what the practice could do to help, and also mentioned that Dr. Tessa does medicinal Botox for headaches/migraines, and that she might be able to help me in that respect. In fact, upon mentioning what Dr. Tessa does in that regard, Dr. Edgar sought out Dr. Tessa, so that she could talk with me right then and there regarding the medicinal Botox, (they didnt ask me to make another appointment in order to consult with her about it). The staff is great, always there with a smile and call you by name. The wait is never bad, and the office is large enough to be professional and have everything that they need, while being small enough to be intimate and comfortable, and not make you feel as though youre just another body in another waiting room. Im so glad that my friend recommended this dental practice to me: both Dr. Edgar and Dr. Tessa are great, and so are the staff!

From an early age, I had a gap in my front teeth, and my teeth had yellowed over the years. When I first went to Dr Tessa and Dr. Edgar, I told them I was frustrated with the fact that I was getting cavities filled, teeth cleaned, etc. but my teeth were looking pretty bad. I was to the point where I didnt want to smile. Both dentists were empathetic and scheduled me for a consultation, where we discussed various options available to me. Then Dr. Edgar followed up with cost estimates, given my insurance. Eventually, we decided on a plan of action, which they started immediately. Dr. Tessa made trays that I used to whiten my teeth. At one point in the process, she had to cancel an appontment because some product did not come in on time. To make up for it, she volunteered to see me on a Saturday, a day off for her, and gave me what was a couple hours treatment. How many dentists would do that? The results of the whitening were pretty dramatic and Dr Tessa seemed almost as psyched as I was, which was nice. After that, Dr. Edgar worked with my teeth extensively and put on veneers. Both dentists were very much involved throughout and if one was working on me, the other would check into see how things were going. The enthusiasm with which they went about their work was refreshing. I now have a much improved set of teeth and smile and am no longer reluctant to open my mouth. I would recommend Dr Tessa and Dr Edgar to anyone without hesitation. (They also treat my wife and kids). They are not only skilled and knowledgeable of the latest techniques, but both seem to be geniunely nice people that are a pleasure to interact with. I am grateful for the treatment they have provided me.

I went to the same dentist from the time I was born up until a few years ago when my dentist stopped practicing. I was really nervous to look for a new dentist because I had such wonderful experiences with the one I grew up with. I first tried a different dentist in Abingdon (it will remain unnamed) and was appalled by how unprofessional and unwelcoming the office was. I left in tears! When I scheduled my first appointment with Abingdon Family Dentistry, I was immediately happy with the decision based on the friendliness of the front desk and the efficiency of the email and text message I received confirming my appointment. I have been going to Abingdon Family Dentistry for a couple of years now and absolutely LOVE this practice. I moved away from the area, but continue to come to this practice even though it is an hour away from where I live and work. I highly recommend this office!
