This was the definition of my nightmare. I went in to have a small cyst removed from the front of my neck on my wind pipe area. Its a delicate spot so I knew it might hurt, but Dr Katz assured me it should only take a few minutes and it would leave a minimal scar. Long story short, 2.5 hours later I was still laying on the exam table while he continued cauterizing what was supposed to be a small incision because he couldnt stop the excessive bleeding. Needless to say the small cyst is now an very sore swollen gash. I cant swallow or talk loudly or turn my head without it hurting. I can only assume that I will need to follow up with a plastic surgeon if I dont want to be reminded of this experience every time I look in the mirror. On a person note, I understand that medicine is not an exact science and everything doesnt always go as planned, however, Dr Katz was obviously frustrated about the situation and his bedside manner went straight out the window. He was short and rude and irritable and made an already hard and stressful situation a lot worse. I will never go back to him, and I may even try to find a different dermatologist to remove the stitches because he has lost my trust and respect. I should probably get a second opinion anyway, and Im considering getting a lawyer in case it heals as badly as it looks like it will.

Dr. Katz, in my case, was incompetent. I went to him for a check up and he found a basal cell carcinoma on my neck. This diagnosis was confirmed by a biopsy. In due course he removed this lesion from my neck by burning and scraping it off. The lesion did not heal. I returned on two occasions thereafter, once to a nurse, the second time to another of the doctors who fitted me in, and each one told me that it would heal eventually. It did not. After six weeks of this weeping sore on my neck, I went to another dermatologist to get a second opinion, and he requested a copy of the biopsy report be faxed over. He called me that evening and told me that what I had was a nodule, not a surface lesion. Nodules are the next stage whereby they start growing inwards. In due course I had this nodule removed, by having it cut out by mohs surgery. An inner and outer stitching up was required. It healed within ten days and the stitches were taken out. Now, over a week later, I can hardly see the scar. The difference, readers, is that a professional Mohs surgeon did the work, and did it brilliantly. I would highly recommend that if anyone has had a basal cell carcinoma diagnosed, they go to a certified professional Mohs surgery dermatologist and save yourself all the trouble and pain I went through.

This is the first time Ive been compelled to share a positive or negative experience about any physician. Unfortunately I have to say that Dr. Katz and his practice are really truly awful. He is nice enough and seemingly competent when he sees you, but his practice makes you feel like a "product" than a customer or a human being. They try way too hard to be efficient, at the patients expense. Dr. Katz tested me for strep (which caused a skin problem), and it took his staff 3 days (!!!) to even diagnose me -- mostly because of their automated system which only lets you leave a message asking for your lab results. Unlike all medical practices Ive experienced, for some reason nurses & office mgrs. wont call you with results, only the doctor can -- this resulted in needless days until I could treat my problem. Dr. Katz was also way too aggressive in treatment, telling me I needed ultraviolet radiation 3 days/week -- which lines his pockets. A second opinion confirmed my hunch that I didnt need such time-consuming and risky treatment just yet. He is a shyster!!!

I used to have much nicer skin in college, but then I moved to Rockville and something happened with my skin. I didnt get inflamed acne, but non-inflamed congestion on my forehead and chin, and overall my skin was just dull and dry. I tried EVERYTHING after my other face medicine stopped working, I went to dermatologists, I used all of their products and nothing was working. My friend recommended Dr. Katz and it has been amazing. My Skin is bright and no longer dull. The appearance of my pores has diminished greatly, and overall my face is so much softer. Im still working to get rid of some congestion, but so far, its worked really well. The products that Dr. Katz prescribed are not that expensive. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to improve the quality of their skin

My first encounter with Dr. Matthew Katz was when I had a serious rashes on my scalp, forehead, brows and external ears. At first I really didnt care that much since Im so busy at work, but when I cant resist on scratching and my forehead and brows are turning red because of the itchiness I decided to look for a dermatologist that can help me. And then I met Dr. Katz, he gave me treatment that really works and the results was really amazing. Now I can say my scalp and all the way down my cheeks are perfectly ok! Dr. Katz is so nice! He will really make you feel so special and will give you the care that you need.

For my last appointment, I waited 50 minutes before I saw the Dr. And it was a 9:30 am appt...youd think he wouldnt be that backed up. He didnt apologize for being late and spent maybe 3 minutes with me. He barely looked at what I had on my face. And the majority of the time he was just telling me that Ive made my "acne" situation worse by picking it and that he couldnt help that my body produces oil. And whipped out the prescription pad for antibiotics which he says are OK to take long term but I dont trust that advice given the antibiotic resistance issue.

The office was clean and the staff was friendly. Dr. Katz is good if your condition requires surgery. For all other diagnosis, you are better off searching it online. I learned more about my mothers condition online than going to this MD. In two instances this doctor told us food has nothing to do with skin---I know for a fact that honey could be used to treat burn wounds among other things...Very patronizing, I feel like it was a waste time and money to go to him...Personally, I will not go there again!

My family and I have been going to Dr. Katz for a few years now. Every time I go I am seen on time and Dr. Katz makes sure I understand all of the information he gives me before I leave. The staff are great and extremely helpful and knowledgable! The free samples are also great (: Thank you Katz Dermatology for always making everything clear and making sure I get in and out as quickly as possible! Sarah

He is the nicest doctor ever! He is really friendly and makes you feel at ease right away. His diagnosis is correct and he is a very thorough doctor. If you don’t understand something he listens and tells you in a different approach. He is concerned to his patient. Dr. Katz and his staff are awesome.
