I have no idea why people have so badly "dissed" this finest quality healthcare facility North of the Boston metropolis, but their complaints were not about the fine medical care, but only about the food. To those people I say then "Just go to a better restaurant next time, while your innards are hanging out, or youre coughing them up from some nasty critical condition you have!" I myself have found the food to be great, and the staff could not be a more caring or responsible crew, but it IS a hospital, and they DO have certain priorities that far exceed those more than your average wait-staff in a restaurant may have, based on the MOST critical needs of the moment. Every healthcare facility has its days when they are overwhelmed with more critical needs, and everyone demands great budget cuts to lower our healthcare costs as many facilities are operating with far less staff on duty these days too, but overall... I believe that this facility has an exceptionally high coping record! I can assure that there are no finer hospitals in all of creation than all of the biggies in Boston as well as this state-of-the-art facility here in our more northerly region. This one is in a class of its own... a greater class, as far as larger suburban hospitals go! If its a culinary treat you want, get yourself to a 5 star yuppy Bistro (one where some of us most probably would STILL bitterly complain!) But if its life-saving medical intervention, a heart transplant, bypass surgeries, radiation and chemo-therapies, new joints skillfully implanted, weight-loss surgery, brain surgery, or other life-extending, restorative treatments... then get to North Shore Medical Center/Salem Hospital IMMEDIATELY! You will be in GOOD HANDS there! I have been in many hospitals in Massachusetts and New Hampshire states over the course of 32 1/2 years as a patient myself several times since 1984 when my wife got in 2 major car accidents within 3 months... neither of which were her fault, with my 2 daughters being hospitalized a bunch of times in their younger years, and with my tragically ill, now deceased wife over all that time with her extremely brittle Diabetes and all of the complicating manifestations of her long battle with that dreaded, multi-faceted killer disease. I can truly ASSURE YOU that there is NO FINER, CLEANER, BETTER MANAGED, and MIRACLE-WORKING HOSPITAL than THAT! NONE in two WHOLE STATES even come CLOSE to the greatness of this miracle facility! I have interfaced with countless Doctors, Nurses, and other hospital and long term care facilities staffs in well over 100 plus short and long-term visits or stays in the entire southern seacoast to mid-central N.H. and North-Northwestern North Shore and Merrimack Valley region hospitals of Ma. and hereby I can positively attest that this is among THE VERY GREATEST! I myself feel that I owe a deep debt of gratitude to Salem Hospital and other facilities like it who even barely come close to its finest approach to medicine in its greatly equipped high-tech facility there! THANK YOU SALEM HOSPITAL for all the extended periods of wellness that you all had restored to myself and my family over many decades there... again, and again, and again! WELL DONE!!! Most Sincerely, Carl Anthony Straus Lay Leader First United Methodist Church 24 Washington Street Peabody Mass. USA

i would have given this a no star rating if i could have. i have never ever been to a hospital like this. there are 4 patients to a room so there is absolutely no privacy. you share a bathroom with 3 others. for two days there was someones specimen cup on the sink and someones urine in a "hat" on the floor. when you wipe your butt with the toilet tissue they have you throw it in the trash and it stays there until housekeeping comes to clean. i waited over an hour yesterday for some pain meds because the entire staff was in a meeting. i had to literally throw a fit to get some food. one of the drs actually told me it was my fault that one of my tests was cancelled because i ate after 24 hours of waiting for a test that never came. she also told me i should have asked for an iv so i wouldnt dehydrate. two of my roommates were on the phone or had their tv on full blast last night until 1 am. when i asked the nurse on duty to have them be quiet, he actually left the floor to work elsewhere in the hospital without telling the incoming nurse the situation. i have never felt so stressed and like a bad person in my life.i would never ever ever recommend this hospital to anyone. i have not had one nights decent sleep since i got here and i have been here for over 8 days.i am a very very positive and upbeat person and this has been holy hell for me. i am leaving today AMA and going home to get some rest and recuperation.

My sister in law was there today Jan 4 17... for 4 hours shes few weeks pregnant not even a full month. She was bleeding and was told to seat down and wait because there was other people I obviously understand about ones health. But talking about a pregnant woman whos been trying to have a family. God forbid it was a miscarriage and they could of prevent it what they gonna say am sorry. I was to busy doing nothing walking around thinking there in a fashion show helloooo hospital staff if you dont like your job find something else you people likes. Is not fair others to pay for your dissatisfaction in life. I just cant get over this she had to live and go to another ER whidden memorial in Everett Ma...from Salem MA to Everett Ma is a good 28-30 minutes ride....shes been at this ER she got there at 8:05 pm its 12:38 am 01/05/17 and she waited a normal time and by now they have done Urine and blood test and an ultrasound and gave her IV poor girl was dehydrated and this S.O.B. Couldnt do nothing for her and on top of that they didnt let her eat. All she had was a sandwich wow thats a big wow. Shame on you where we gonna end with this situation. Close thats hospital before something else worst happens and you get sued....Good luck with you awful staff....

Horrible experience! my aunt was in Salem hospital icu barely living and they treated her like she wasnt even a human being. Yelling at her, not explaining any situations to her. No privacy what so ever changing her in front of men with the door wide open (all you have to do is shut the door and close the curtain) when she left her arm is now paralyzed because they dropped her on her arm. Disgusting attitudes horrible staff. so disappointed. she asked for water and since she couldnt speak very well the lady was yelling at her saying "I cant understand you what do you want?!" horrible horrible. Dont work as a doctor if you dont even know how to treat someone. They also had no idea what they were doing they have her like 15 different medications via a needle she has bruises all over her neck and stomach. They basically gave her medicine and was hoping one would work. Nobody in my family will ever be coming to this hospital again it was a complete nightmare.

Absolutely horrible. Do not go there unless you get injured in their parkinglot. Son had a cut on his hand and I was afraid of the cut needing a stitch. So the lady at triage tells me it will not need a stitch most likely but to see a doctor. Now this cut is like 1 inch and all I needed to know was if it required a stitch to be comfortable enough to leave.I waited 1 hour and 15 minutes in a room, and was over an hour and a half late for work before my husband called to see what was going on. They told him that the doctors are all busy and will get to him when they can. My husband asked if it is unreasonable to just send someone in for 30 seconds to say hes ok and they denied. Horrible experience i will go else where from now on. PS 1 hour and 30 mins in the room(Dead in the ER) i left without being seen. A+ job guys thanks for nothing.
