Portsmouth Hospital ER is basically where you should go if you want to die. Misdiagnosis and neglect by several of their "doctors" is acceptable practice at this HCA facility. My most recent horrific visit involved Dr Hope ignoring a seizure after a head injury on 12/21/16 (most likely caused by a TIA) at the gym... as I was coming to I could hear a mans voice asking me "are you doing this because you are in pain and trying to get my attention?" Luckily I had a friend with me to take care of me during most of my visit to protect me from the incompetent staff! I was haphazardly released with an improper diagnosis, without a family member (or friend she had left to pick up her children) when I could barely speak or walk and without mentioning a rather large thyroid nodule that was an incidental finding (even though I had signs & symptoms suggesting this could be part of the problem but at the very least needed to be checked out. The next day I was admitted to a different hospital and currently (few months later) Im still being treated for a TBI, that Dr Hope didnt think was worth his time to even check out. I highly recommend staying clear of this hospitals emergency room and NEVER allowing your loved ones to to be treated there. Dr Heller & Dr Hope are two of the most frightening medical providers I have encountered in years... since Dr Damon Negri at the same hospital misdiagnosed my stroke in 2011! Please protect yourselves and your families from PRH!

Im only giving it two stars for one nurse and the doctor we saw in the ER. My four year old had a stomach bug and her regular doctor recommended we go to this ER. The first nurse we saw was the one that made it bearable but she left not long after we got there. We were in a room across from the nurses station and when my daughter got sick all over herself and the bed, she was given medicine for it and the nurse left. I overheard him say to another "dont get mad at me for this" then heard "oh my god, what?" They must have lowered their voices because I didnt hear anything after that, a couple minutes later the "oh my god" nurse came in and changed the bedding without a word and left the dirty sheets by the sink where they stayed the rest of the night. One nurse came in and took my daughters temperature and my mother had to ask what it was, nurse barely glanced over her shoulder as she was walking out the door and told us. No one else came in after that and we didnt find out the results to her blood and urine tests until right before we were leaving and we had to ask for them, several hours later. Another thing that bugs me is when my husband and I went out for fresh air my mother stayed behind in the room and saw one nurse leaning over to another, whispering something and when she didnt hear they moved closer together and whispered, then both looked into our room. Real professional.

I had surgery, and many tests last year. I When I checked in, I provided my full name, current address and phone number. I also provided a copy of my drivers license (at their request) that had my current address. I also completed an on-line profile with all current information. I was never billed for the serivice because they used an old address that was on file from 13 years ago. I also never received calls for follow up. However, then my bill was sent to several collection agencies and now on my credit report. When I called Patient Accounts they told me they the address they billed to and the phone number they called. I told them I hadnt live at that address for 13+ years or had that phone number. They did say they had the correct address and dont know why they billed the wrong address. They apologized but it doesnt help that this was sent to a collection agency and Im now having trouble getting a loan.

They saved my fathers life. The staff was wonderful, nurses were patient , for those who have dysphagia the food could use much improvement. There is no puree machine or blender in the kitchen so the menu becomes Limited and a limited diet does not improve the ability to heal. Everyone was attentive and concerned about my fathers overall well-being. As with most hospitals there was an extreme lack of communication in regards to certain events and post care. The hospital was clean and well maintained. 2 of the nurses in ICU were rather rude and one gave my father a pill that had fallen on the floor. And there was an Indian doctor Who really had nothing to do with dads recovery and he was very condescending and kind of rude. But that was as bad as it got. Overall a wonderful facility with unlimited visiting hours except in ICU. Much better than the old Goodall and just as good as York.

The staff on the neurological floor are absolutely some of the most outstanding caregivers I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Not only are the extremely knowledgeable but are incredibly compassionate and caring not only to our mom, but to our family as well. They made every effort to make sure our needs were met. Our mother suffered an acute brain hemorrhage, and from the moment she entered Portsmouth Regional they were at her side and giving her the expert care she needed!! I could not feel more at ease knowing she is here! Thank you to Sara, Barbara, Rob, Alisha, David Norvicki, Dr. Algeri and the entire team who have cared for her. We are eternally grateful for each one of you!!! Sincerely, Meredith Carrier

My son had an 8am appointment today. We were told to be there at 7:45 which we were. He was not seen until 8:30. No apology for the wait. The technician had an attitude. When finished she said to come out of the room & she would show us how to get back to lobby. We came out and she was no where to be found. We wandered the halls until another staff member offered to help us. Waiting 30+ minutes for a scheduled appointment is ridiculous and to not even acknowledge that they kept us waiting so long is very unprofessional. The service is sub standard and someone needs to give the technician an attitude adjustment so she can learn to treat patients with respect. Very disappointed with this visit.

The only reason I am giving ONE star is for the great personnel in the Radiology Dept. I would never choose this hospital again, based on my experience with the billing!!!! Nightmare does not even begin to describe it!!! I am currently looking at 3 different bills for the same date of service and procedure. ALL of the bills have a different address associated with them, and ALL are for 3 different amounts!! The kicker is that I have already paid my portion, yet I am continuing to have to call my insurance company to straighten this out. I dont know about anyone else, but I have more important things to do than to try and fix the incompetence of so called "professional" businesses.

I have been to Portsmouth Regional on several occasions over the last 11 years and although I live closer to another hospital, I will only go to Portsmouth I have several conditions and the doctors, nurses and nurses aids have all been wonderful Currently Im going going weekly to Wound care I actually look forward to my visits as the doctor, all the nurses and receptionist are all outstanding Not only are they professional, but they all have extremely great personalities, keeping you relaxed and laughing during the treatment I wouldnt be around to let everyone know how great theyve been if Id gone elsewhere
