I didnt "dislike" my initial office visit, but I did dislike Dr. Gutierrez failure to respond to my telephone request for assurance. I was referred to Dr. G by my primary care physician who felt a raised lesion on my forearm should be removed surgically. I called and made an appointment to have the lesion diagnosed and hopefully removed. During my initial office visit, Dr. G spent about three minutes inspecting my skin and then prescribed a steroid ointment to be used twice a day and covered with a fresh bandaid. Her approach was sort of wait and see what happens. Since the lesion didnt look like an insect bite I was doubtful but followed her instructions. Eight days after my first visit I called Dr. Gs office (on a Monday) and left a message saying that the lesion had grown, the ointment was ineffective and I wanted assurance that she would remove it on my second visit which was five days away. I received no response. On Wednesday, two days prior to my second visit I called again asking for assurance that the lesion would be removed. I told her staff that if I did not hear from Dr. G or get any kind of assurance I would have to do something else. I received no response from Dr. G. on Wednesday. On Thursday (well before the 24 hour limit) I still had received no response from Dr. G so I called her office and canceled my Friday appointment. I will find another dermatologist who I hope will promptly removed this inconvenient lesion from my forearm. At age 77, I take responsibility for my health and with the cooperation of my healthcare givers I hope to live the years I have left reasonably free of disease. Because Im pro-active I researched skin cancer on the internet and found a photo of an identical lesion named nodular lymphoma. The chart provided led me to believe that my four-week-old lesion was already stage 2. Had Dr. G taken a few minutes to return my calls I would have shared my concerns with her and as a team we could have worked together. BOTTOM LINE: I felt I had little value in Dr. Gs eyes and my little lesion wasnt worth a few minutes of her time to discuss. THE GOOD NEWS: Dr. Gs office staff are friendly, efficient and professional. I really liked them. Her office is furnished beautifully and was open and comfortable. RECOMMENDATION: If you are willing to settle for the good news then by all means see Dr. Gutierrez. If you want a doctor who will return your phone call, then I suggest you find another practice.

My skin issue, which was in a private area, caused me deep suffering and began in 2011. I saw a number of doctors for a couple of years that could not figure out what my issue was or how to help me. I visited Dr. Gutierrez in Jan 2013 after a Dermatologist I began seeing for help in late 2012 retired and sent me to her practice. After examination Dr. Gutierrez told myself and my girlfriend (in a very cold fashion) that my penile skin issue was "skin atrophy". Other than giving me day and also a night medicine (of which both made my skin worse and I had to stop using them after 2 days) Dr. Gutierrez diagnosed me having "skin atrophy" on my penis and that I would just "have to live with it" as anything else is "not a standard of healthcare". Time proved that Dr. Gutierrez delivered a 100% MISDIAGNOSIS. I spent the following weeks researching the internet and found the only plastic surgeon and urologist in the country in California and began the process to have an expensive out of pocket operation that I would take out a loan for to remove this "skin atrophy" that Dr. Gutierrez said I had. A date was set for the operation and tickets were purchased to fly there. My last detailed phone conversation with the surgeon (just a couple days before we were to fly out) caused the surgeon to cancel the operation after he then realized that Dr. Gutierrez diagnosis might be incorrect based on some details he heard from me over the phone. The surgeon told me that he no longer operate until after I saw another dermatologist at a teaching hospital for a second opinion. in March of 2013 David Sheinbein, MD. Current Position Associate Professor, Medicine Division of Dermatology told me that he has seen this issue many times and prescribed me Nortriptyline which would keep the nerves in that area to stop sending false signals. Within 11 days the skin issue went away. I have been on Nortriptyline for almost 1 year and under Dr. Sheinbeins care I am attempting to get off of this drug as he says many can reduce and stop taking it after 1 year with full success.

Dr. Guiterrez is not respectful of her patients’ time. One patient ahead of me had been in the office for 2 hours and then he was moved to a room where he waited for another 1/2 hour (total 2 1/2 hours) without being seen by the doctor. He wanted to know how long before he could be seen, they told him soon. I had already waited 1 1/2 hours, so I was not going to wait any longer. The patients time is just as valuable as the doctors time. I have a choice in which doctors I see, so I no longer will be going to Dr. Guiterrez.

She is one of the doctors who is doing it for the money. I felt that she does not care about her patients at all. Twice after having lab work done I had to call the office three times. She had my abnormal results for three days and didnt call me back. She is always very late even if you are get first appointment of the day. Asked her question during appointment and she said lets talk about it another time so she gets paid for another visi instead of addressing right there

I have visited her office two times, once to deal with an issue and once for a general check-up. I did not have any wait time for either visit. The office staff is very friendly. The best way to describe the overall experience is warm and caring. Dr. Gutierrez took plenty of time with me and has an outstanding bedside manner. I highly recommend her practice.

Today was my first visit. Dr G was so thorough. She listened well and asked questions. I left with a very clear and doable plan for my skin. Office staff were friendly and very helpful.

Brisk, efficient, kind. She is not touchy feely but she does get results!
