Ive been taking my pets to Edinburg Animal Hospital for a couple of years. I was referred by my sister who has been taking her pets here forever. Now we both agree, we have confidence in the veterinary staff, but also feel like were being "nickle-and-dimed" to death!!! I live on a small fixed income, and I have always felt that owning a pet is an expense I must somehow manage, but it feels like its getting unmanageable. One day my dog threw up what looked like blood and I was terrified. I was low on funds, so I called the vet in advance and told them I had a sick dog and $300, and not a dollar more to give them, would they work with me? The vet assured me the visit would not be more than $300, to bring my dog in, so I did. Upon checking out, the bill totalled over $600 and I told them I wasnt prepared to pay that, and that I already told them this over the phone prior to my visit. There were no unexpected revelations during the exam, no x-rays, and there was just blood work done. It was as though the vet that quoted me over the phone totally forgot our conversation and padded the bill with things I dont even understand. It was a very uncomfortable experience explaining this to the front desk person, who appeared to be annoyed with the whole situation. They scurried around, mumbled behind closed doors, and eventually I got permission to set up a payment plan for the amount over $300. The staff was not nice about extending credit to me, despite me and my familys committed history to this place. There are plenty of vets who are kind and skilled, and fewer who are kind, skilled and reasonable. I will be taking my pets elsewhere. Im sure my family will eventually follow.

Ive been going to this vet for about 7 years, because theyve been prompt, caring, efficient and pleasant. But something has changed since my most recent visit. I hate to use the phrase "Nickel and Dimed", but thats what I felt like the experience was this last time around. I realize it costs a decent amount of money for an annual checkup, necessary vaccines, etc. Im used to spending over $200 on each of these visits, and while expensive, it is what it is if you want to take care of your animal. But when I ask for a cardboard carrier to hold my cat, since my carrier was recently destroyed, they wanted to charge me approx. $8 for it. Theyve never had a problem just giving me one of these carriers before, so I just told them this time to forget it. Moreover, they said they could give me a comb to help with some recent clumping in my cats hair. I said great and they gave me the comb but didnt tell me there was an additional $8 charge for this as well. I had to discover later that I was charged for it. Given that Ive been spending hundreds of dollars on these visits - not to mention I was given estimate of over $600 for my follow-up visit (for what was deemed a necessary teeth cleaning, etc.) - this is why I feel the term "Nickel and Dimed" applies here. The care and service are still great, with a very nice and competent staff. But when a business starts charging for things they used to consider very small courtesies (after the hundreds of dollars spent), its somewhat of an unattractive blemish. I just wanted to say, "Come on, seriously?" I dont usually like to make waves like this, but this really bothered me.

To All Fellow Pet Lovers – Greetings ! Whatever good we can say about Edinburgh Animal Hospital, is not enough. When you adopt a healthy pet, it’s pretty easy for the doctor to take care of them. When your pet is not so healthy – that is when you can tell the extremely good veterinarians from the regular ones. We adopted another pet into our little family. This rabbit was so precious and charmed everyone in the family into falling in love with him very quickly. We took the pet to the Edinburgh Animal Hospital for a checkup and the doctor discovered there was a medical condition that required surgery. The operation was of a special nature and very tricky. However the Dr.Fanders and staff were very capable and competent and were able to pull our little one through without any problems. They are very caring, considerate and an extremely proficient group of professionals. Our little baby was home and back to his normal self in very short time. Selecting competent medical people to treat your family is always a high concern. So it is with your pet family as well. We want the very best for them as well. Selecting the Edinburgh Animal Hospital was a sound, smart choice for us and our beloved little pet family. Actions, Do, speak louder than words, and the capable, competency of the Edinburgh Animal Hospital group allows us to breath a little easier knowing that we have the best people taking care of our precious little guys. Thank you for listening. Take care and have a good one. Sincerely, Lopez family

Our Collie/German Shepherd mix, Louie, broke his leg while running after a ball in our yard. We took him immediately to the Vet we had been going to for years. When we arrived, we found that our Vet had retired and sold the practice to a group of, shall we say, incompetents. They put a splint on hit leg and we took him home, returning every 2-3 days for a followup visit. I complained that it appeared that the splint was on too tight, since Louie was trying to get to it, and was whimpering, and his paw was turning bright red and starting to ooze pus and blood. We repeatedly called the Vet and was informed that the splint was definitely NOT on too tight, and we did not know what we were talking about. Long story short, Louies leg was so severely infected (his paw also), that the skin and hair was rubbed completely off where the splint was too tight, leaving endons and muscle exposed for a 3 inch area completely around his leg. After more than $1000 in vet bills, we turned to Edinburg Animal Hospital to see if they could help. They (Dr. Danielsen and the team at Edinburg) immediately diagnosed the problem and took action to repair the damaged skin and resplint the leg. Edinburg has the most competent and friendly veterinary services I have seen to date. They took care of Louie and it appears that my dog is on the way to recovery. Edinburg Animal Hospital is worth their weight in gold to me. I have definitely found THE Vet for our dog. P.S. It appears that more that a few patients of our old Vet have moved their pets to the care of Edinburg as well. Smart Move. ...Mike Henry
