I have taken a number of my exotic pets and dog to Dr. Stuart, since 2005. As far as I am concerned- he is an expert with ferrets. The location is 1 hour away from my home, but it is totally worth it considering the excellent care he has given my "kids." Years ago, my ferret was misdiagnosed again and again by numerous vets in my area. They all pushed chemo and said she had cancer-I refused to do that without getting an opinion and diagnosis from a vet well versed specifically in exotic animal care. Those other horrible vets and hospitals stole many thousands of dollars from me and did not bring her back to good health. Im still completely disgusted by their lack of integrity and greed. Anyway, I found Dr. Stuart online and went there for his help and he carefully explained all the test results that I showed him from other vets and he assured me that it was not cancer! He gave me antibiotics and cured her! Simple as that. No BS. He is honest and explains everything thoroughly. Having knowledge and experience with exotics is important to me and he definitely knows his stuff. He saved her life and is now treating another of my ferrets who has insulinoma. I feel safe and confident that she is receiving the best and proper medical attention from Dr. Stuart. Over the years he has proven to be honest and dedicated to his work providing the right kind of care. Other reviews talk about pricing, but compared to the numerous vets I have visited in the past-his rates are very acceptable, because I unfortunately know what its like to have been completely robbed and lied to by others. Everything that he does (tests- blood work and such) are always warranted and appropriate for diagnosis. I have never had to question why, because he goes over all the details with me before anything. Some people in other reviews don’t like all the complex medical jargon, but the fact that he has retained all that detailed info is impressive in itself. Its unfortunate some people wrote negative reviews-I find it upsetting, because that has not been my experience. I have nothing but good things to say. Sometimes our pets are so ill they cannot be saved (just like sick humans). That is sometimes how nature works. They cannot tell us they are sick and animals often instinctually hide symptoms. By the time we realize- it may be too late. Good doctors like Dr. Stuart cannot be held accountable for not being able to save every life. All I know is that he is kind, compassionate and has saved the life of my fur baby and is taking great care of Cookie Bear to my satisfaction and I am extremely grateful to him and so are all my fur babies. And another note-it isnt a run down, dirty facility. Ive been to over 10 clinics or hospitals in the bergen county area and some of those places stank of poop and were dirty. This place is always clean and sanitary during our visits.

Admittedly the visits are expensive, however, Dr. Staurt has brought my ferret back to life when hes been ill and my ferret did so well after a life saving surgery that Id pay him whatever he wanted. The last time I took my ferret to a regular vet (who was actually surprised to see a ferret - not a good sign) the doctor couldnt even get the ferret distemper vaccine in and said it wasnt necessary with an indoor pet. Come to find out after a bit of research that distemper can blow in through the window or be walked into our home on our shoes. Once the animal presents symptoms for distemper it is too late. Better safe than sorry and Dr. Staurt heirs on the side of caution. As for the "man handling" some reviewers mentioned at check ups, that is how the doctor discovered a tumor on my ferrets adrenal gland. I thought it was a bit much until the day he made this discovery so apparently there is a reason for everything. Yes Dr. Stuart will explain this and that... some of which you already know but at least he takes the time to explain things. He is knowledgeable and thorough and cares about animals. He is also an excellent surgeon. Just ask his nurse April about "Miracle Ferret" which is an amazing testament to how far they go to save your pet. As for their location they are in a flood zone and basements in this area will flood when there is a bad storm... most recently with "Hurricane Irene". If any reviewers visited around this time they caught them digging out of the mess from flooding in the basement so there was a smell of mildew. His nurse, April, said they couldnt stay closed because the animals need care. This was very fortunate for me since my pet needed immediate treatment for a bad infection. Perhaps the expensive fees for visits, medicine, procedures, lab work, and surgery is so that Dr. Staurt could afford to stay in business in this very nitch market as one the best exotic vets in our region. My exotic pet is irreplaceable and worth every penny. He is playfully referred to as the "Million Dollar Ferret".

Great Hospital, Great Staff, Excellent Experience. My Dog loves them!!! When I 1st came into New Jersey I Used to go to a different Vet. After having them almost kill my dog I looked for another place to take my dog. I called this hospital and was greeted pleasantly and had a laugh making my appointment. Upon entering the hospital I found it smelled great and was very clean, there were no smells of dog or cat urine like the other places I have been to. They were extremely nice, the staff. The Doctor, Doctor Stuart, was the best with my "Lily". At the first visit it was just for simple vaccines. She didnt even flinch with him drawing blood for the heartworm and lyme check. Thank God she was negative. We had so many ticks that year. He never need to use a muzzle. The other vet I went to always would stress her out and put a muzzle on her and then have one of their ruffian technicians as they called them over restrain her like she was a prisoner. I was and am very happy with the way she was and is handled here. They all have a soft touch and it puts Lily at ease. I brought Lily into the hospital for vomiting. After Xrays it appeared that Lily had eaten something she shouldnt have. Surgery was done and after she woke up I visited her and was given the sock that she ate. She was there for 2 days and was wagging her tail the whole time she was there. She came home better than new. I am so grateful that there are such caring individuals out there and Dr Stuart and his staff are among the best I have been around. Lily still likes to go there. At her suture removal she was wagging her tail from the waiting room back to my car. I could never see myself going anywhere else. The basket of goodies I gave them paled in what piece of mind they gave me.

Poor to Fair is an overstatement. Just as the last guy wrote I brought my pet bearded dragon here last week because there was no one else in the area treating exotic pets and he needed to be looked at right away. To start, I stopped in ahead of time to make sure I understand the fees involved in diagnosing my pet. He told me $130. I was find with that. When I showed up with my pet he got me in made a bunch of drawing I cant even make out and when I told him I had questions he said "let me go over everything first" You cant throw a bunch of stuff at someone and expect them to be able to remember everything you said. He said "just listen dont write" Point being he rushed us out the door as well, ran a cotton swab in his mouth and gave him 2 shots and rushed us out the door. When I got to the front desk they said it would be $500 and a follow up of $180. WHAT? I told him I didnt agree to that price. I said you didnt say that running a swab and the shots would be more. he said our policy is that if you want to know the charges ahead of time you have to ask at the time of treatment. How does that make any sense? when I take my car into the mechanic to do a diagnosis they do the diagnosis and say "heres the problem and this is the cost of repair do you want us to do the work?" The long and shot BE WARNED ASK QUESTIONS FIRST!!!
