My dog was having a lot of pain and couldnt walk. She was barely eating or drinking. After speaking with a few friends and family, we pretty much assumed she had Lyme and knew we needed to get her antibiotics asap. We brought her in to Animerge around midnight, Sunday Morning, and we told them we think its probably Lyme. Instead of talking with us about testing for Lyme, they immediately wanted us to consent to a bunch of things she didnt need, like a catheter, for no reason - without ever even looking at her or asking questions. We refused because we were not presented with any evidence or reason to put a catheter in. They quickly took her from us, and walked her into a back room somewhere, so we had no idea what was going on. And our dog gets nervous without us. It was horrible. They even said she was anxious and tense and werent sure if it was interfering with their evaluation. I kept asking to see her and they said no. Ive literally never been separated from my dog while shes being treated for anything. Completely unprofessional and bad practice, in my opinion. No one would separate parents from a child being evaluated in a hospital. Our normal vet talks us through everything he does and we have never been separated. Animerge was so pushy about having us sign things for medical treatments with zero explanation, zero communication. They kept coming in with these papers of treatments but no real evidence to do them. They wanted to do X-rays on her stomach and kept asking if she ate anything weird. They thought there was a "blockage". After repeatedly telling them my dog just had a "movement" before we got in the car, and kept having to confirm that she doesnt eat garbage, they finally left the room again with no real idea about what was wrong with my dog. I kept overhearing one vet tech literally making fun of us, cackling from the back room where my dog was, bc we wouldnt consent to these crazy treatments. She was complaining about how we must be having "financial issues" (we are not), and cant pay for treatment. And called us "Dr. Google". It was unbelievable. Then they FINALLY agreed to test for Lyme after hours sitting there while they "evaluated" her in the back. The vet finally came out, disappointedly, and said she "tested a little bit positive for Lyme". Not sure how you can test "a little bit for Lyme", but I guess they assumed they didnt need to explain anything further because I would probably just ask google anyway. I guarantee they wanted to slice my dog open last night. It was absolutely appalling. I dont recommend anyone go to Animerge. Ever. This was a horrible experience and Im disgusted with the lack of logic regarding my dogs health and care. The only saving grace to the night was the sweet, caring receptionist Barbara, who took the time to talk with us, talk to the vet/tech on our behalf, and even gave us blankets because it was so cold. Someone please give this woman a raise and a medal for being the only descent human being that works there.

I had a horrible experience here. Brought my dog Snoopy at 6pm on Sat. He had a heart condition and had a fainting spell. They kept him one day and adjusted his meds. I was told he was doing fine and to pick him up 8pm Sun. Got there at 8 and waited and hour and a half for him. I noticed when they brought him out his teeth were chattering, his tail was down and he was drooling. The vet tech said hes fine, just needs a drink of water. Got him home and his tail was down, drooling, with teeth chattering. He didnt want to go in the car again and it broke my heart to have to force him to go back there. Got back to this place at 11pm and was put in a room and told the doctor will be right in. Waited in the room for a hour. Nobody came in. I went outside to the receptionist and was told an emergency came in and to go have a cup of coffee. Waited another half hour before a vet tech came in. By this time my dog was listless and not responding. The vet tech then pulled on my dogs collar choking him as he was trying to make him walk to another room. After choking him, the vet tech realized my dog was unable to move and needed to be carried. I went to the reception room and witnessed the emergency dog walking out with his tail wagging. When the doctor finally came in the room she told me the "vet tech" was not a vet tech just some kind of assistant with no training. My dog was euthanized 10 minutes later. The hospital manager just makes excuses for their incompetence. Shell say they work very hard and certain emergencies get priority. The truth is they are under-staffed and incompetent to handle complicated issues. I have brought many pets here before, but only for minor, uncomplicated issues. Never had a problem with those. Its the complicated, life threatening issues that Animerge doesnt have the training and ablility to handle. If you love your pet and have a complicated emergency, please dont go through what I went through. Dont bring your pet here.

HEARTLESS That would be the word I feel best describes this place and its staff. I have more choice words for the owners. I brought my very ill golden here. After an exam and ultra sound they said her lungs were full of water and they could not rule out a cancer. They said she was struggling with each breath, in a lot of pain and very anxious and confused over what was happening to her. I agreed to have her put to sleep. My heart was breaking. Instead of taking us to her, as she lay frightened and alone on a cold table in a room where people were coming and going with other pets, they instead took us to front desk. we had to pay the total bill of over $1400 in full before we could stop her pain and put her to rest. The choice given was to pay up or they would put her back in our car and send us on our way. I know people doctors take an oath arent vets held to some standard as well. THEY WILLINGLY ALLOWED OUR BELOVED PET TO SUFFER NEEDLESSLY. It took us about 35 minutes, all of which our baby had to suffer more than we, until we finally could get the money and paid.I had already spent over five hundred at another vet earlier that week so money was short for me at the time. I would have paid their fee by the end of the month but NO they are upfront with all payments. THEY KNOW NO OTHER CARE AVAILABLE WITH OVERNIGHT HOSPITALIZATION SO THERY HAVE THE GUN TO YOUR HEAD--THEY AREN"T AFRAID OF PULLING THE TRIGGER.. like they did to us.We were crying and sobbing and the girls at the desk showed no sympathy or emotion at all. Just another "ching on the cash register to them Terrible experience. I pray I never ever have to seek any help from them again. Also hope God has a special place for the owners in hell.

My husband had to take our dog into Animerge because out of no where he started falling, threw up and his head was tilted towards his behind. He rushed him over to the hospital and was told that our dog has a brain tumor and nothing can be done and that he should be put down. I was lucky to be out of town for the night so my husband asked if they could keep him comfortable until I got home so I could say goodbye. The next morning the overnight vet called my husband and said she does not think its a brain tumor that she thinks its vestibular disease (which a dog heals from), and she recommends us going to a brain tumor specilist in Red Bank. Thank goodness for her because when I got back we went to go visit our dog, the original vet was back and again was very adament that she does not think its vestibular disease and that its a brain tumor and nothing can be done. But we could always get a 2nd opinion. One of my best friends is an out of state vet, she also said it sounds like vestibular disease the symptoms and she was asking if they tested for poison, etc. When I got to animerge I was asking the Dr if she did any testing and she said, our other dog would be sick if he was poisoned. That is the most absurd thing I ever heard, we are on almost an acre, he could have eaten something in the backyard. Anyway, we took him to the brain tumor specialist and he has vestibular disease and is almost all better. Its been 3 months of taking care of him, but he is 95% back to himself. Just make sure you get a 2nd opinion before you do anything drastic. It saved our dogs life! I would have given Animerge no stars except the staff was very loving to our dog and the overnight vet saved his life.
