On April 28, 2016, my family’s two year old dog, Alex, had a routine procedure done at the Camp Hill Animal Hospital to remove a small piece of debris that had become stuck in her eye. Following the operation, while her breathing tube was being removed, Alex aspirated. If a dog aspirates during the removal of a breathing tube, you need to treat them immediately and aggressively so as to prevent pneumonia or other complications like a staph infection or sepsis. Aspiration during this process is incredibly dangerous for a dog and can become fatal if it is not treated as soon as possible. It is in our families opinion that Dr. Jean Persia, the veterinarian who did the operation, did not properly treat our dog. Dr. Persia did not care enough to tell our family that Alex had aspirated until the following day. Our dog died less than 48 hours after the procedure took place. If Dr. Persia had immediately told our family what had happened, Alex may have had a better chance of survival. Our family found out more information after Googling the situation than Dr. Persia had provided us at any time after the procedure, even when I called her personally on two different occasions. Alex, our lovable family dog, died at the Rossmoyne Trauma Hospital following treatment that came too late. One mistake and countless tears later... our beautiful dog Alex was gone. Our family has been taking our animals to the Camp Hill Animal Hospital for over 13 years. We trusted our pet and companion to a vet who did not care or want to reveal that a serious problem had occurred. Dr. Persia sent Alex home as if nothing had happened and she was completely fine. On a piece of paper following the operation, Dr. Persia did write that we should watch for “signs of coughing or breathing harder” but did not specify why. We monitored her while she was home, and we contacted the vet when we had questions, but we were assured she was alright and dismissed curtly via the telephone. We as a family understand that mistakes happen, and we understand that risks are inherent when medical procedures take place, but we do believe that we should have been notified of what the situation was when she was sent home from the animal hospital. We understand that veterinarians are busy individuals, but we do believe that the time should have been taken to properly and completely bring us up to speed on our dogs health after the operation. We would never put a price tag on our dogs life, and anything that could have been done to save her we would have attempted regardless of cost. My family will never take any pet of ours to the Camp Hill Animal Hospital again. I would caution anyone whose animal is sick or needs an operation to be sure to do your own research. Listen to your instincts. If you think something is not right research it and seek another opinion.

We have a 9 year old toy poodle that was diagnosed with a slipped disc by another local vet. He was placed on a round of steroids and muscle relaxers and we noticed that the problem wasnt getting any better when we were weaning him off of the meds. When we called the vet to let them know the problem wasnt getting better, they told us that there was nothing else that they could do, but they could give us the number of a neurologist to have him evaluated for possible back surgery or we could bring him back in and maybe they could give him another course of treatment. We decided to get a second opinion and the first place we called was the Camp Hill Animal Hospital. They were able to give us an appt. the very next day with Dr. Crawford. We took our dog in and was immediately impressed with Dr. Crawford. He gave him thorough exam and on a hunch wanted to test him for Lyme disease. The test came back positive and were given new meds to treat the new diagnosis. What is usually a bad diagnosis, we were very happy to hear that we wouldnt have to pay $5000 for back surgery. We have already transferred our records for our other dogs to the Camp Hill Animal Hospital. Highly recommend!!!

I love CHAH - I have been going there since 1972 - through many dogs and a few cats - they always fit us in when its urgent - and have always given top notch care. There has not been much turnover in vets or staff all the years I have gone there - which says it must be a good place to work, too. All the staff and vets (I have seen them all!) have always been kind and helpful - and compassionate when compassion all that is left to do. They have referred us to good specialists when needed. I have to give a special thank you to Dr Vukovich who has been exceptionally patient with my feisty little guy, and who helped save his life by getting us into see a neurologist within hours when his back broke - he runs like the wind again. Thanks to all the vets and staff at CHAH!

Dr. Vukovich is wonderful, however, the receptionists are mediocre at their best. Without exaggeration, every time Ive visited I stand at the counter waiting to be acknowledged. Ive begun to time the wait as sort of a joke for myself. Last time I was there I stood for 30 seconds while both receptionists ignored me, not a hello, Ill be right with you, bear with me a second, nothing. Thirty seconds may not seem like a long time to some, but set a timer and try it yourself. I am in the service industry. If I didnt greet a client when they entered I would be counseled. The only reason I continue to go there, and gave it two stars instead of one, is because of Dr. V. Shes great!!

I have taken my cats and dog to this office. They always get an appointment scheduled quickly for emergencies. They are very friendly and compassionate. 2 years ago our 18 yr old cat had a stroke and had to be put down and recently our 15 yr old dog also had to be put down. They were very compassionate, very understanding, willing to do whatever we wanted done to try and save our dog unfortunately her age was basically the problem and she would have continued to suffer. They even sent out sympathy cards both times and my dogs paw print was attached this last time. I would never take my furry children anywhere else!

Dr. Crawford and Dr. Vukovich are both awesome. Last year we have to put down our 15 year old lab/chow mix. We usually see Dr. Crawford, but went on a night he wasnt there, so Dr. Vukovich put down our beloved Pepper. She was great. Dr. Crawford is very straightforward and doesnt try to "upsell".

The staff is very friendly and personable. The visit moves very quickly, so youre in and out (depending on your pets needs) within 30 minutes. If you have the option see Dr. Crawford - super chill and knows his stuff. Not condescending, pretentious, or apathetic (like almost all other vets).

I can not say enough good things about this business. The receptionists are always very helpful. My dachshund has period seizures, scooting issues and a weight problem. Dr. Crawford is great with my dog and helping me try to figure out things to try.
