My experience with Capitol Area Animal Medical center has been nothing but positive and I hope those leaving poor reviews are not doing so based solely on a news story. I recently had major dental work and a neuter performed on an older dog. When I dropped him off I was asked to leave a deposit. I have been a client for years, have always paid my bills, but I was still asked for a deposit because it is the hospitals policy. I can only guess (since I wasnt there) that this is the point at which the hospital refused service to the woman in the story, when she was not able/willing to produce a deposit prior to treatment. When I was previously employed by an animal hospital, it was fairly common for people to bring in "Fluffy" in the midst of a medical emergency. They would swear they had the money and were more than willing/able to pay anything as long as "Fluffy" could be healed. But when I would call them the next day to inform them that their beloved pet was alive and well and to discuss payment, they were always less than eager to pick up the animal. When I called later in the week to say "Fluffy" was still there and ready to be picked up, I almost never reached anyone. And finally, after a month of caring for "Fluffy" at a place that was business and not an animal shelter, I would send a letter saying the animal would be sent to the shelter and collection proceedings initiated if I didnt not hear from anyone. 99% of the time I never heard from anyone. The beloved pet that needed saved at any cost was abandoned due to money and it fell to the hospital to find a home for "Fluffy" and find a way to get paid for saving the animal. Awful. I imagine this is why the assurance that someone has the money to pay is not enough. After you have been told by a "Fluffys" family that you can "go ahead and put him to sleep, we bought a new kitten because it was cheaper", you start to see where the hospital is coming from.

I cannot express my love for this group enough. I have been going here for about 12 years, ever since I got my first dog. They took care of him his entire life, and now my two new pups are under their care. I dont know how many people can say that each doctor in an entire practice is ethical, kind, and entirely competent- I can put my trust in each doctor. They have never rushed me, and I am one to ask a ton of questions. They treat your pet like he is a king- they fuss and fawn over him and comfort the pet when he is scared. The entire staff is enthusiastic and respectful too. I just have one question- why cant I find doctors for ME like this!! I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I brought my puppy there twice last October for him to receive his first yearly shots. During both visits every one was polite, never made me feel rushed or anything. My biggest complaint, and the reason why I will probably not ever go back, is that during the second visit, one of the doctors administering the shot for my dog, had to ask one of the vet techs "Where does this shot go?". Not the type of thing you want to hear from a certified veterinarian. As soon as I heard that I knew this wasnt the place for me. On top of that, once the shot was given, the syringe wasnt taken out properly and my dog started bleeding.

We love our two cats and theres nothing we wouldnt do for them and no price we wouldnt pay but I feel like theyre only after money. I only needed a vaccination for our cat, which I told them on the phone since our cat had her annual check-up a couple of weeks ago. They said it was okay but then charged the full examination plus the vaccination! They were extremely rough on our cat, and our cat was disturbed for a week! They also told us, our cats teeth were "great" and today I noticed they are really not okay!!! That was a week ago... so we paid 90$ for a bunch of bull****. Not going back there!!

We recently switched from another local vet. Being able to compare the two, Cap Area Vet is considerably better. Dr. Matthew was extremely thorough during the initial exam and gave me his undivided attention despite it being a busy night there. He has been helping us work through our dog having seizures and has gone out of his way to check in with me every few weeks on the phone, rather than having us continually come in just to make some extra $$. So far i have been very happy with their care, and plan this being a long term relationship. Seizure free for two months!

They refused to see a dog that got hit by a car in Harrisburg City. When they walked in The vet said, they couldnt see or look at the dog because they didnt have the money. The people said, they did have the money and the vet still refused. So they had to go to another animal hospital many miles away and the vet there look at the dog and the dog was bleeding inside the chest so the dog had to be put down. So dont go to this animal hospital because they will let your dog and other pets DIE!!!!

We have had nothing but wonderful experiences here. The vets weve seen have been thorough, thoughtful, and always treated us as equal participants in our animals care. Dr. Matthew has never rushed an exam, has always followed up with us even late in the evening after the clinic had closed. He and Renee were very kind when we had to put our little Warfy down last week. We also see Dr. Stake (we are a multi-cat family) and he too had shown great care and understanding.

This place is the worst!!! Took my dog there for an irritation on his tail and on top of the $52 visit they charged me $51 to put cream on a spot the size of a half dollar/ the same cream I paid $60 for. The office manager told me I was paying for expertise and staff...hmmm thought thats what the exam charge was forwofI would write bad reviews fothem she implied they would sue me. This was one big $160 lesson to never go there again!!!

Fabulous vet! My German Shepherd had skin issues that I felt my previous vet (who threw steroids at the problem) was not taking seriously. Dr. Matthew, by far the best vet Ive had in my 20+ years of dog ownership, went the extra mile, was thorough, followed up frequently and even remembered and asked about my dog when I brought my cat in months later. The office staff is helpful and wonderful as well. I highly recommend them!

My dog and I adore Dr Keim, I have never been involved with a vet who is so willing to just sit and talk with me and answer all of my questions. Im never rushed or made to feel like Im being a pain and even though I sometimes have differing ideas about treatment shes more than willing to listen to what I have to say. And the staff and vet techs have always been very helpful and great with my dog also!
