I have a very sweet dog with end stage cancer. She takes a combination of meds to moderately control her pain, one of which is deramaxx. Weve tried three other cox-2 inhibitors in the past, none work as well for her. Ive been taking her to HHDC since I moved here 1 year ago. They do not sell deramaxx so I have to get it through an online pharmacy. Every single time Ive had to refill the prescription theyve screwed around, made it as difficult as possible. Twice shes almost run out of her medication (I had to have it overnight shipped to make up for their negligence). Two different employees of HHDC separately volunteered that Dr. Dixon intentionally makes it as difficult as possible to get meds through an outside pharmacy because he wants to keep the profit. This most recent time I called after a week without the refill being approved, Dr. Dixon suddenly said she has to have blood work performed before he will authorize the refill. I was not given any warning and can not get her in soon enough to keep her from running out of her meds. Her yearly check up isnt due for another 4 months, she had the blood work at her last appointment and everything was ok. I dont mind having the blood work done again, even though it is needless (she has end stage cancer, even if her kidney function is altered she will still need to take the meds to maintain any quality of life) but I cant have it done soon enough. Dr. Dixon does not care about my very sick dogs well being, and was literally yelling at me on the phone when I explained the big picture. He does not care that she will run out of her needed pain meds because of his negligence. I strongly suggest you take your loved one to a different vet clinic.

I took my dog in to this vet as soon as I moved to HHI, I saw Dr. S, he was very nice and performed an exam. He prescribed a med for k-9 arthritis, and said he had no problem with me using an internet company to fill the prescription, though he thought his office was competitive on the price. He also said my 11 year old dogs teeth looked wonderful. After I got home I noticed a small tumor on her belly the Dr. missed. I returned a couple weeks later and saw Dr. D. One would think the visit would be free, after all the tumor was missed at the full exam but he charged me full price. He further contradicted Dr. S and said her teeth really needed to be cleaned and he would be happy to do it and there was a special price just a couple hundred dollars... not sure what happened in 2 weeks but I passed. Finally after the 90 day prescription I got from Dr. S ran out I called 800petmed to get it refilled. The process is you call them and they fax a form to the vet, he signs off for the script and faxes it back, then they ship (usually the same day). I called the office and let them know the process was underway. A couple hours later, Dr. D called me back and said there is a $10 fee to write the prescription and he doesnt trust the internet companies so he will not authorize the prescription by fax, I have to go there get the prescription and send it by mail. Further, he needs to run several blood tests before he can do that. It seems like this Dr. will do whatever he can to make a buck. I guess that is his prerogative, mine is to look for a new vet.

I wrote a 5-star review in the last six months, but it has never appeared online. I am a great fan of Dr. Dixon and Dr. Currier. However, I recently had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Sara, who performed a check-up on my newly adopted English Golden Retriever. She was both thorough and professional. For this appointment, I brought all the paperwork provided me by the rescue organization. As I pulled out the info and forms pertinent to my dogs health, a woman at the front desk commandeered my folders and commented aloud as she went through them. She loudly voiced her shock at how much I paid the charity for my dog. The amount, by the way, wouldnt likely cover the costs of spaying, vaccinating, examining, Dasuquin, ear medication, among other things. Although I was offended by her remonstrations, I have marked it up to immaturity. Hopefully, she will read this and learn from it. I received a call from Dr. Dixon regarding my review shown above. He apologized for the exchange which occurred and spoke to those responsible. I appreciated his diligence. I realize that we all make mistakes. It is learning from them that counts. Based on Dr. Dixons follow-up, I have decided to revise my rating from three stars to the usual five I give Hilton Head Veterinary Clinic.

We recently came to Hilton Head to visit family for a several days and kept our wonderful, loveable 2 yr old boxer with Hilton Head Veterinary Clinic. The stay was total opposite of what they advertise and was very disappointed with the service. Our dog is on a special diet and has digestive problems when taken off his routine dog food. When checking in, we discussed this, filled out a form indicating the need of a special diet, and left his own dog food with the vet tech. However, When we came on Sunday to pick up our dog, a different dog food was left in his bowl. When questioned about why this occurred the Vet Clinic had no response of why this happened. I think a lack of care, laziness and unprofessionalism all play a part of why. The Clinic offered no compensation for the mistake and denied any request for compensation. I highly recommand that if you are considering using Hilton Head Vet Clinic for your pet look else where.

As a multi-pet family and person my entire life (and its been pretty long) whos lived all over the country and had MANY sick pets, Dr. Dixon & Daughter (his co-vet) get my "lifetime best ever vets award". Maybe its their frank but thoughtful way of communicating, like the time one of the cats fell and cut herself so badly (and was so old) or the time the dog threw up...something alien and 50% his size, which Dr. D diagnosed over the phone at 3 am as being a piece of chicken? Or maybe its their dedication to the animals and the owners, like the time one of the cats swelled up to twice his size and was near - very near - death from a urinary blockage on New Years Eve and was rushed in and overseen through the passing of at least 2 of his nine lives over the course of a very long week. And yes, there was a miracle involved, but no one would have seen it if not for the Dr.s perseverence and vigil. Super super-vets!

Took or dogs there to get their shots. First he wanted to make an expensive exam on them telling it was the time for that, and I knew we just had that 2 months ago and it is due in every 12 months. I told him and then he said i was right. Later he was questioning us why we dont use an expensive product, and when we told us because we decided not to use that he was telling us that doesnt make any sense. Then, after we left I looked at the bill and we got charged for both dogs for an exam we were thinking about getting in the future.....Can you believe that? They gave our money back though but it is unbelievable how everybody acts there. Plus they are so not professional, the place is dirty. We will never go back there
