Having been a patient for several years, I always considered Dr. Cummings to be a competent periodontist. However, a recent experience suggests otherwise. I had my normal hygienist and doctors appointment recently and expressed my concern about something unusual in the gum area adjacent to my dental implants, installed by an oral surgeon, asking specifically that they pay particular attention to this area. At the conclusion of the examination, I was given a clean bill of oral health and told, see you in 6 months. The following day, I visited my oral surgeon who immediately discovered a major problem, a bright red lesion which was quickly confirmed as being cancerous. I am now scheduled for major surgery at M.D. Anderson at the end of March 2014 to remove up to a third of the bone from my upper jaw, all within a few weeks after receiving Dr. Cummings seal of good oral health. Dr. Cummings has been very apologetic, but how much further would the cancer have spread had I waited the normal three months until my next oral hygiene appointment? I certainly don’t blame Dr. Cummings for the cancer but I do blame him for missing something so obvious. Make up your own mind; to me personally, this has been a mind bending experience.

Yesterday I had some major dental surgery done by Dr. Lewis Cummings. I had lost an old 3-tooth bridge that could not be replaced. I was referred to Dr. Cummings by my regular dentist, another great man Dr. Scott Mosby. I had to have 3 teeth extracted, two of which were merely stumps that held up the bridge. On top of that, I had to have a bone graft to make my upper right jaw wider to accommodate 3 implants at a later date. The estimated time for yesterdays procedure was 2 hours, but I was finished in one hour. I chose a local anesthesia...I heard the cracking, but stayed very relaxed. By the time I got hone, my bleeding had stopped. I was prescribed 4 medications. As I felt my numbness ebbing, I took a pain pill at 1 pm...since over 24 hours ago, I have not had to take another pain killer, there just isnt any pain. I called his office this morning, and I must compliment the staff as well, and let them know how amazed I was at the my experience with Dr. Cummings. I had to share this experience with the public.

Dr. Cummings and his staff have been very professional and attentive to any questions or problem areas I was concerned about over the years. My family has used his practice for several major and minor surgeries and the experience and quality of after care was excellent. I would recommend this Dr and practice to anyone who inquired. Ive personally sent several friends to this office and they always let me know that they were so glad that they went to see Dr Cummings. The staff is knowledgeable and the atmosphere is very welcoming- I recommend it highly.

Dr. Cummings is an amazing dentist, and his office staff are wonderful too! He performed an Alloderm graft on me to fix some gum recession, and the process was easy and relatively pain-free. I would encourage anyone looking for an implant or grafting specialist to use Dr. Cummings!
