I have been going to Dr. Mata for years. He has changed dramatically. During my last yearly exam, he spent less than 10 minutes with me. After leaving, the nurse informed me of the test he had scheduled. He had not ordered a mammogram. When I told the nurse, she checked with him and told me that I needed a pap smear first. I am 64, have not female organs left, and havent needed a pap smear for a mammogram in years. He has always ordered them in the past. When she insisted on a pap smear, I agreed, only to be told that I would have to make another appointment for this. I asked to speak to the doctor. After waiting 45 minutes in the exam room, I was told that I would need to make an appointment to talk to him. Dr. Mata did order an ultra sound on my thyroid. I have had this done for years to monitor small nodules on my thyroid. At the ultrasound, the tech remarked that she didnt know why I was there since she saw nothing. A few days later, Matas nurse called me and said a needed a nuclear test on my thyroid. I asked why since the tech saw nothing. She got huffy and said I had had a goiter for 2 years (no one had informed me of this before) and that this test was extremely necessary. I called St. Lukes Sugarland hospital for an appointment and was told the estimated charges were $350.00. The day of the appointment, they took me to a finance cubicle where I was again told the estimate was $350 and I would need to pay whatever my insurance did not. I was make to sign a paper stating this. A few days later, Matas nurse called with the results - no goiter, no nodules! I told her that I had been told I had a goiter and asked to speak to Mata. She said she would relay the message. Next day, she calls and says Mata said I had no goiter or nodules. I said that wasnt the point - that I was told to take this test because I DID have a goiter. Again, I asked to speak to Mata, but was told I would need to make an appointment. A few weeks later I get the bill from St. Lukes. It was over $1000.00! I called billing and said I was told an estimate of $350.00. They said they had "no record" of this and that I would have to pay since I had signed the paper. This has GREATLY compromised my trust in the medical community. I am in good health, but now I will question any test that doctors want because I will not know if I truly need them and how much they actually will cost. I feel that Mata and St. Lukes must be in partnership to bilk unsuspecting patients into having unnecessary test.

Dr. Ponce De Leon is your typical lazy & careless Doctor. She will do the bare minimum required in her 15 mins of required time with her patients. My sister who has Down syndrome has been "treated" by her. Not only has the Doctor failed to monitor her blood levels while putting her on a highly toxic medication, she has also failed to look into my sisters health problems that could possibly be as serious as cancer. She has failed to recommend us to other Doctors due to her lack of knowledge, and carelessness. You would get better medical knowledge with a Google search. Due to her putting my sister on medication and NOT doing follow up blood work for over a year, my sisters condition has actually gotten worse. Luckily, I have done my own research and have asked for the blood tests, this Doctor failed to administer for over a year. My parents will be switching my sister to a diff Doctor. If you need a basic doctor for basic problems such as a cold, stick with her. If you need someone for a more complex problem that requires actual scientific thinking and problem solving, find someone else. I hope her carelessness does not do further damage to my sisters health. As someone at the top of my field in Technology (I am a Silicon Valley engineer at a top tech company), unlike Dr. Ponce De Leon, if her consistent laziness causes harm to my sister there will be a lawsuit in her future.

My experience with this doctors office has not only been frustrating but it has now messed up my credit. A YEAR ago I was sent for blood work to be done, unfortunately the staff sent me to the wrong place which was not covered by my insurance. I received a bill in the mail stating I had to pay 150 dollars for the routine blood draw. I called the doctors office and they stated that it was thier fault that they sent me to the wrong place to have my blood drawn and that they would cover it... I have been told numerous times that it would be taken care of. I have attempted numerous times to speak with the billing person about the issue and every time I go up to the office she is "busy" or cant return my phone calls. Now that I trusted this lady to take care of "thier" issue it has now hit my credit. Dont go to this doctors office. If you ever have a billing issue it will never be resolved and you wont ever be important enough to have your phone call returned or set up a meeting. Their are plenty of other doctors offices in Sugar Land. Please dont make the same mistake I did.

Horrible experience. I called yesterday asking for an appointment for a sick visit at 2pm and none of the doctors were available to see me! I finally managed to get a 10:30am appointment the following day. After a 45 wait, the nurse checks my temperature and says I dont a fever (strange because when I checked it before I left home it was 100.5 and I hadnt taken any medication). Dr. Brady looked at my throat and made a horrible face and said theres definitely something going on there (nothing I didnt know! I havent been able to eat since the past 24 hours). So they did the strep throat test which came out negative. The doctor said she suspects it to be a viral infection. After I got home 45 mins later, my fever had rose to 101.5! An hour and half later, the doctors office calls me back and says they looked at the strep throat test again and it was positive!! Unbelievable! Basic stuff messed up!

I have been going to this dr office for a quite a bit of a long time and all of the drs are great! However Im not sure what is going on with the actual staff working there for the past couple of years its been going down the drain. Employees working there are always extremely rude over the phone and not knowledge in what is going on. I have customer service experience in the medical field and over the phone and I would never talk to any patient/customer in any rude or bad way. Its just so disappointing to me to be a long term patient and having to see all of this and deal with it and so fustrating. The last thing I have to say is maybe the drs need to evaluate in what type of people they are hiring for there buisness practice because as long as there staff is being disrespectful, rude and having attitudes then I cant see it going very well.
