My first visit was definitely my last! I actually am a technician, and I decided to come here really just for the convince at the time, and the fact they seemed to have cheaper prices on vaccines. The staff was very polite, but not very accommodating, in fact the set up of the entire facility was not very accommodating for me or my dog. When I was led into their exam room, the assistants seemed very unorganized and inexperienced. Their first attempt was to force my dog to do what they wanted, instead of even trying to give him the opportunity to do the task himself. He will willingly get on the table if you ask him to..it only stresses him out more when others try to man handle him. But definitely the most disappointing part of this visit was the doctor! When he came into the room he never introduced himself, offered his hand, or even met eyes with me; and Im a new client! His physical exam consisted all of putting a hand on his back, listening to his heart for all of 5 seconds, and giving his face a quick look over. He NEVER checked his ears with an otoscope or his eyes, never palpated his abdomen for masses or pain or swelling, nor checked his paws, his skin folds, or his lungs (and if he was "checking" his lungs when he held his stethoscope to him for all of 5 seconds he surely didnt check both sides or any of the compartments of his lungs)! He never checked his joints for flexion or pain, and never checked his teeth or even opened his mouth!! The exam lasted all of 2 min.s, which is HORRIBLE!! He then proceeded to give vaccines, of which he didnt need to explain to me because of my experience, but he didnt know that. It would have been nice for him to build a relationship with a new client and say "First Im giving him a distemper, which protects him against.." and so on, to stress the importance or even to just add some kind of client education to this visit. I was also VERY upset with where and how he decided to give the vaccines. There is a basic standard, that you give the rabies low in the right rear leg and the distemper either in the front left leg or you can give the vaccine in the left rear leg ( all so if there is a reaction to the vaccine you will KNOW which vaccine is doing it, and if you need to amputate it is low enough to do so *though this is very rare**). This doctor decided itd be a great idea to give both vaccines RIGHT BEHIND THE OTHER in the MIDDLE OF HIS BACK.... never have I experienced such disregard for such a BASIC practice! There is a REASON for giving vaccines the way we do, and the fact that he cant administer core vaccines or even give my dog a proper physical exam is HORRIFYING!! I can only imagine the attention and treatment their regular clients/patients receive! I definitely will NOT be coming back to this place! What an awful experience..

Everytime we need to be seen for anything were told we need to get an exam!! Just had an exam in may 2016 go in to get flea meds were told needs another exam in order to get flea meds because the exam we had 7 months ago was a different exam even though it cost the same and on the receipt it states physical exam. I just called to get an explanation cause when I called to have him seen in may they said they had to do an exam before they could issue antibiotics incase he was sick so we were ok with that now we bring him in for a bordetella vacine and ask about flea prevention and they say we need to give him an exam in order to give him flea prevention!!!! Weve been to alot of different vets over the years and have been going her for the past 7 years. Its a shame because now that I look back over the years it used to feel good when I left confident that my dog was healthy and now everytime I go it feels like Im going to this vet for the first time because its so impersonal they dont spend anytime with the dog no petting or talking to the dog or any kind of interaction at all! Pretty obvious that greed has taken over another practice... oh well on to the next! Theyve lost our business & will not refer another person to this practice.

Horrible Place DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! The vet only seems to care about the money. I wish I would have taken my pet somewhere else. I took my 14 year old Chihuahua to this place on Friday afternoon. He was having problems breathing. After $50.00 for just walking in the door and $160. for the x-rays. I found out that my dog had a collapsed Tracheal. (VERY BAD NEWS)! His air way was blocked. Now my Chihuahua was 14, he was somewhat blind and def, he had very bad arthritis in his hips. He had also lost control of his bladder. I was told by the vet he could give an antibiotic they may or may not help! Bottom line I had to make a very difficult decision that afternoon. After I was given the news I never saw the VET again only his staff. It was $57 for he shoot to put him down and if I wanted to hold him during this process it would cost me $127.00. (WHY) To have the cremation done and sent to me $169.00. Money Money and more money. Never did the vet sit down with me to discuss options and what would he thought would be best. He had NO sympathy no compassion. Never said I sorry about your pet. STAY AWAY!

We were new to the area and got a coupon in the mail, so I took my cats there. My older cat was a well-controlled diabetic. The vet changed her insulin to a less expensive brand. I noticed it called for a different size needle and questioned him about the dosage. He said to just give her the same dosage. If I did that it would have killed her. When I objected he very off-handedly said, oh yeah, you are right, here is a conversion. What he did not tell me is the insulin he recommended is a very unstable-its made of odds and ends of other batches, so sometimes its really strong and sometimes its weak. After a couple of days we rushed her to another vet-her glucose level was under 50! We also boarded them there once. When we got back we were presented with a huge bill for an unnecessary test as well. If you need a vet I highly recommend Animal Medical Center on Battlefield. Dr Carrico is sympathetic, never rushes you and explains everything. She is very good about letting you make decisions about your pet-no unnecessary treatments or tests. Her staff is great too.

There are no words to explain how wonderful this vet team is. My sweet pup had a freak accident that put her in shock and she was holding on to life by almost nothing. I rushed her here (not even knowing this office but it was just the closest place) and I can now say this will be our forever vet for all my furbabies. She went from the team confirming with us that we would want them to resuscitate her if needed, to bringing my sweet baby home a couple hours later. She still has a long road ahead to recovery, but the team that works here are truly Angels. They called first thing in the morning to check on her and answered every possible question I had. The vet tech Amanda was so wonderful to my sweet girl and to us I cannot thank her enough. They truly did everything they could for Marlee, and saved her life. They are very personable, resepectful, professional, and compassionate. Thank you Highlands Vet! -Whitney, Jeff, and Marlee
