(Id actually do 4 1/2 stars to include the things Im not a fan of but since you cant I decided to round up.) First off, this awesome doctor is a Disney fan and enjoys other nerdy things (woo-hoo!) so I barely need to say anything else. But I will.... Second, like another poster stated, he prescribes Armour. I came from another great doctor in another state and was ready for a fight to get this drug. Kinda disappointed I didnt need to use my rant, rage against the machine, speech. The longest I have EVER been in the office (and this included blood draws) was 30mins start to finish. What Im not a fan of is, he tends to poo-poo things he thinks may not be related to Hashimotos that I know are because of past personal experience HOWEVER, he will listen. Thats why I rounded up. I had another endo smiley face my 32 vitamin D, not cool! This dude knows and listens and Im eternally grateful. Staff is friendly and efficient. Ive never had an issue with a blood draw. And I think my family and I will give a Disney Cruise a whirl next time ;-)

Amazingly, there is still a doctor who sees patients at the time of their appointment! Dr Tanen has been my Endocrinologist for several years now - and he was a blessed relief from the old one who was consistently late, had the bedside manner of a charging rhino and dictated notes during his time with me. Dr. Tanen, in contrast, is calm and methodical. He appears to hear what I say to him and responds appropriately. He calls me personally with my lab results a few days after they are drawn - even on weekends - and he is willing to prescribe Armour Thyroid which I find necessary. The office is clean. The staff are nice but busy, and they draw labs in house. He has been a godsend to me, and I will continue to drive 40 minutes to see him as long as he will keep letting me in the door.

I met with Dr. Tanen, at the recommendation of another physician. I was pleasantly surprised from start to finish. My first encounter was with his staff. They were polite, respectful and very professional. The environment was pleasant. There was no waiting. I was personally greeted by Dr. Tanen at precisely 2:30 PM, the scheduled time of the appointment. He was personable and very attentive. During my visit he exhibited a high level of professionalism and a keen knowledge of the issues at hand. He is truly an asset to the medical profession. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a seasoned endocrinologist, with excellent bedside manners.

Dr. Tanen is a trustworthy, seasoned professional with sound medical instincts, a pleasant demeanor and solid ethics. Dr. Tanen is quite simply the best in Northern, VA. He found the cause of my medical symptoms and developed plan that has returned me to normal. I am grateful beyond words.
