When writing this review, I contemplated exactly how many stars I was going to give this organization. This review applies to my experience within the FIRST HILL CAMPUS EMERGENCY ROOM ONLY! I have not had any other clinical experiences with Swedish at this time, so I am only speaking from my one experience. I had some severe and strange issues going on with my health, so I went and checked myself into the Emergency Room at First Hill. I am giving the facility a three stars. There was trash in the lobby and the receptionist did not seem to ecstatic about getting it cleaned up. Upon Arrival, there was a guy standing outside smelling the bushes with a syringe in his hand, yes it was quite the experience! LOL. I am giving three stars because the wait was absolutely ridiculous and the emergency room is HIGHLY understaffed and that is an understatement. I waited EIGHT AND A HALF HOURS total between seeing the doctor, tests, scans, etc. until discharge. They were not even that busy when I came in, so I found it highly unacceptable. HOWEVER, there is good news. They were very thorough in diagnosing me and running the appropriate tests, etc. to insure that my problem was not something more serious than what they thought it was. I did appreciate the physician being thorough as it helped to relieve me, even though I almost had a panic attack before I could get out of the facility due to wait time. My physician was Dr. Kristine Tucker and she was AMAZING! My nurse, Brandon was amazing as well and was compassionate. My first nurse was complaining about her job, etc. but Brandon took over and helped me drastically. The ER technician was amazing as well, but I forgot her name. Anyways, I would recommend this emergency room for your care, just expect some strange occurrences, such as what I mentioned above. Also, if you do not want a long wait time and have a choice, I suggest to try going at a different time than when I came in, which was at 7:30 a.m. on a Thursday morning. Otherwise, staff and customer service was decent and the doctor was thorough, even though it took almost nine hours, which I can appreciate. :)

The following is a review of Swedish Hospital Physical Therapy: About eleven years ago I first went here because of shoulder pain. The UW Sports Clinic had been of very little help at all. I dont recall the name of the person I saw at the time but she was very nice. About half a year ago I was able to wrangle a referral from the resident I was seeing at Swedish Family Medicine. I was in deep, traumatic neurological pain from the shingles that I had contracted. Luckily I was able to see Carolyn McManus at the Physical Therapy Clinic. Unfailingly kind, gracious, and wise, Carolyn helped me over the six weeks I saw her to relieve the pain using her skills both as a physical therapist and as a practitioner of meditation. She also gave me two CDs in which she herself guides patients through guided deep breathing, relaxation, and inner self-talk, which I use away from home with my MP-3 player when I feel anxious, stressed, and want to block out unpleasant environmental stimuli such as loud, obnoxious (narcissistic ~ exhibitionist) people, of whom there is no shortage in our fair city.

I feel ambiguous about the hospital. My wife gave birth there a few days ago. We tried to check in a couple of times before we were admitted. The first time she had 3cm dilation, we were offered morphine and sent back home. The second time she came in with 4cm dilation and very strong pains, but still asked to go back home. It took some arguing to get her to stay at the hospital. This happened around midnight, and my impression is that the delivery unit may be understaffed and overstretched at night. Fortunately for us, she gave birth during the day when we had an excellent nurse and doctor assigned to her. We had some minor complications but thanks to the nurses and doctors available everything went well. I had a bad encounter with the hospital bureaucracy again in connection with the birth records of our newborn (the records havent reached the county vital records office): Swedish Birth Records Office doesnt pick up the phone or return messages and we cant even come and see them in person -- we still havent resolved this one. What a pain!

I was referred to a Swedish First Hill Campus for a colonoscopy screening by my primary care physician. Dr. Brandabur performed the procedure as prescribed at the First Hill Campus. He or his staff coded the invoice for the procedure as a diagnostic procedure instead of a screening procedure. Consequently, I am erroneously subject to a charge of $2000.00 for a procedure that was supposed to be covered by my health insurance at no cost to me. My health insurance has authorized payment upon receipt of a revised invoice, however the coding department that prepares and submits invoices for Swedish refuses to correct the error. My primary physician who is affiliated with Swedish has indicated to me that he disagrees with the coding that has been submitted. I cannot recommend Swedish First Hill Campus. In my opinion their billing practices are at minimum questionable and possibly fraudulent. Multiple attempts to resolve this error has met with no results.

Swedish system in general is a very good place. I go to Swedish first hill very often and Im always greeted with a hello and a smile. The attendants are always helpful and willing to go out of their way. The concierge in the front is always knowledgeable and helpful to anyone and everyone. I personally have never had an issue at Swedish first hill. You walk into the lobby it is huge. They have a Starbucks inside the lobby. The workers at the Starbucks are always friendly and fast. Ive gone to many of the floors to get patients and they always tell me they love the nurses and the doctors. I personally have had good experiences with the nurses. Very friendly and sometimes even super funny. Swedish first hill is usually always clean. The mens bathroom on the very first floor could use some work. They need to fix the doors and even clean it a little bit better. Other than that I personally think they do a phenomenal job.

The last thing we did before my hip replacement scheduled the next morning was to visit billing and call insurance, to make sure it was covered. If it wasnt, I would wait a while. I was given a figure and assured it was covered. In the end, we had to pay over $40,000 out of pocket. I would never have had the surgery if Id known that. Swedish billed differently than expected and there was nothing I could do, after much arguing, so we paid. I hate this hospital and, as it turned out, I did not need the surgery. I kept telling the surgeon it wasnt my hip, that it was my spine. He simply did not listen. Now I am in LA waiting for spine surgery, four years later because I was right and he was wrong. Lovely! Now I cant walk at all and I went through a hip replacement and IND, paid for most of it ourselves, and now I cant walk because it was my spine all along. I hate doctors who wont listen.

Only giving a two star because the two morning nurses I had were amazing Courtney and Lenore thank you for making my c section recovery bearable. The issues that I had were the blinds wouldnt come down in my room, someone didnt come until day 2 to fix it, the water in the shower was cold, we had to switch rooms and the water in the New room wasnt much better. When we were getting ready to leave I grabbed an extra hospital baby blanket to put over my sons carseat so that the cold air wouldnt hit my newborns face, and my nurse at the time Nurse Merebea took it off and said these are not for taking so I can only let you take one. That one was being used to cover up my babys body so he doesnt get cold. I really found that to be bullshit and rude since they have plenty of blankets. Its not like I was taking a stock of them
