One lens had partially out of my glasses frames and I couldnt pop it back in myself. I went in to ask them to fix this, a service I would have been happy to pay for. The staff member was particularly rude, and only became more so when I told him I bought my glasses online after he asked where I had purchased them. He proceeded to try to blame the manufacturing of the glasses for the problem. I tried to explain that the problem was new and the lens had been flush with the frame previously. He continued to try to explain how this couldnt be true by showing me the frames after popping out the lens. After going back and forth for a while and realizing that I wasnt going to receive help I asked for my glasses back. He kept explaining that this was simply the quality you get when things are ordered online. After I got into the parking lot and started wiping the smudges off of my glasses I realized that his popping the lens out and putting it back in had fixed the problem. The lens was flush with my frames again and the slight blurriness caused by this was gone. So 1) thanks for fixing my glasses and not charging me for it. 2) You dont get to complain about competition from online retailers when you are rude and condescending to your in-person customers. I got a good laugh out of the situation, but if you want customer service, not a comedy of errors, I suggest you steer clear.

I dropped by to make an appointment, and the man who helped me was completely ungracious and expected me to know things he hadnt told me yet. But thats not the worst. I made an appointment anyway, for 8 freakin AM in the morning the next week. I got up early, got to the clinic about 7:50, and the door was locked. I knocked, and knocked again, then I saw that the hours were 9 AM - 6 (or so) PM. I could have sworn my appointment was at 8, but I thought maybe Id gotten mixed up. I called twice, left one message about how I was there, my appt was at 8, etc., then said Id be up the block at Starbucks and if they got this message to call me, otherwise Id be back at 9. No call came, so I went back at 9. The guy said, "Oh, you were the 8 oclock. You missed your appointment, sorry." And I said, "I was here at 8. The door was locked. I even called and left a message." He said, "Oh, when Im the only one here I leave the door locked, and we dont check our messages until 9. I came and unlocked the door at 5 til." WHAT A JERK! Is that your response to this complete inconvenience? I just told him Id go somewhere else. Seriously, can I get a little more contrition? You SUCK.

ok, two specific problems that my husband and i had when we came in for the basic eye exams: 1) after paying a boatload of money just for the exams (as previous reviews also state), we got the prescription but didnt even get the values for pupillary distance to order our glasses! thats complete crap. now we have to go to a DIFFERENT clinic just to get that number! 2) during the visit my husband was found to have an infection in the eye. the visit was rescheduled by the doctor for the following week. we were charged full price for visit 1. on the second visit, the doctor glanced at the eye for about 5 minutes, determined that the infection was still there, asked to reschedule the meeting the following week (ostensibly because by then the infection would clear) and charged us full amount for an exam. the same thing happened the following week. you would imagine that if the doctor had any clue about persistence of infections, he would be able to give a more accurate estimate of how long that would clear instead of ripping off clients and charging them full amount for exams on sham visits. a medical professional? i dont think so. what a joke.

Im surprised by the range of reviews. I had an excellent experience with the receptionist, Dr Hovander and Richard, the contact lenses specialist. Im a new patient having moved here recently. I was able to get an appointment fast, was seen on time and the services performed served my needs. In addition, I do not have vision insurance and the cost of the services was quite competitive compared to the other clinics I had called prior to scheduling a visit. I had a complete eye exam, a contact lenses evaluation and now a new pair of contact lenses (multifocal / progressive) that fit my crappy eyes (myopia, astigmatism and now presbyopia). I would recommend this clinic highly and plan to continue my vision care there.

Good doctor but poor staffing. I tried to have some prescription lenses put into a pair of sunglasses I already owned. I was told they could not do this because it was illegal. I went to a different optomitrist and they did it without any hang ups whatsoever. I also had a difficult time getting my contact lens prescription from them- it seemed like the really wanted me to buy contacts from them instead of ordering online and saving money. Not sure why this was such an issue- it seems like it would be a very common request. Needless to say Ive decided to go elsewhere

The optometrist is well read, fast and accurate. The staff is friendly. Their selection of eyeglasses is not huge, but it is up-to-date (albeit fairly costly). The only downside is that they will not measure pupil distance unless you order glasses from them (even if you got your prescription from them)--which I found unusual.

Dr. Hovader is very friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite part of University Vision Clinic is going to pick out frames with Paul. He was so helpful and willing to spend the time to help me find the right pair of glasses. I will definitely continue to go to University Vision Clinic.

If you want an optometrist that accepts VSP buut doesnt stock exclusivley Luxottica frames (unlike EVERYONE else), come here. They are the reason why Masunaga stock frames on the west coast at all. They have my eternal business for that reason alone.

Dr. Hovander is great. He is quick and knows what he is talking about. I would recommend him to anyone! I have been working with him for years and I have not found any complaints.

Thoughtful, careful, and thorough. Just what you want in eye care. Good selection of frames, and a willingness to help with unusual requests.

Eye exams and designing glasses take twice more time here than in other clinics, and I dont even mention the long wait times

PA

Pavan Kumar

Pretty detailed testing but no modern equipment and they also told me they could not fix my eyes any better with glasses.
