I DO NOT understand why this place gets all the five star reviews, because my personal experience was awful. Long wait time, filthy exam room, a veterinarian (Joshua H Yonas) who does not care about your pet, a medication which does not cure the illness - what else can you expect from a bad vet experience? I bought my sick cat with swollen eye for diagnosis, and was told by receptionist there were two patients before me, and the wait time is 20 minutes. I waited nearly one hour before being called into a exam room, which was full of chemical smell of some sort of cleaners. The smell was so strong I could hardly breathe. The room floor was sticky, as if it has not been cleaned for a long time. There were also strange liquid leaking from floor mat. Even the restroom in a fast food restaurant feels much cleaner and more comfortable. I had to stay in such a filthy room for another 20 minutes, before the vet (Joshua H Yonas) actually came in to do his job, which last only a few minute. I am surprised the vet did not even ask for my cats previous medical history and vaccine record, and quickly came up with a medication, which has four different medicines. Since one of them is tablet, I asked how to feed my cat with tablet, since she never had tablet before - the answer I got is "it is very simple. go do your research on internet" - WTF?! I feel he care more about his personal time and wallet, rather than spending quality time to try to understand my cats problem. My experience with other vet clinic was 10 times better. The only reason I gave it one star is because this place opens on Sunday, and does not require appointment in advance. Follow up - after 170+ dollar spent, and three days of medication, my cat still got swollen and teary eyes, the symptom does not improve at all. There is no follow-up call from Urban Animal to see how my cat recovers from her illness. My time and money have been wasted. This is the worst cat clinic I ever visited. Try to avoid this place at all cost.

I hope everyone at Urban Animal reads this review and knows how much we appreciate what you did for our beloved pet cat, Tony. Tony had seemed a bit out of sorts for two days, but was clearly ill on Friday of the Labor Day weekend. Our neighborhood vet was closing early for the long weekend and would offer no recommendation for us where we should turn. We googled up vets near our zip code and out came Urban Animals address. We called and were assured we could come in without an appointment. We were seen promptly and Dr. Salt gently explained to us the options for Tony -- realistic options with his welfare in mind. We accepted some pain medication for our boy and took him home so the family could say goodbye to him. We returned later this weekend and Dr. Salt and the entire staff treated him and us with the utmost sensitivity and kindness. We are grieving for our boy but we are so very grateful for the compassion and quality of the care at Urban Animal. We highly recommend this organization for the quality of the veterinary care, the kindness of the staff, and the efficiency of the operation. We dont know what we would have done had we not found Urban Animal. Thank you so very much.

I hate to give this place one star since they are great with general examinations and very friendly in person. Unfortunately they misdiagnosed my cat during an appointment and this ended up costing me $2,500 and almost my cats life. I went in after accidentally stepping on my cat - he was acting weird, hissing and urinating in tiny bits all over the house. I relayed this info to the vet since he never pees outside of his litter box. I was given pain meds and told it was trauma and he would be fine. Turns out his urethra was partially blocked and three weeks later this would turn into a full blockage that had to be taken care of by an emergency catheter operation at 4 in the morning. I actually ended up going back today since my cat still has a good amount of blood in his urine and I didnt get an apology or answer of whats wrong with him - instead they gave me more meds that will hopefully help and another bill. I get that misdiagnoses happen but vets should look at all possibilities of what may be wrong with animals. Hopefully this will help that specific vet learn

The staff at Urban Animal is super knowledgable and friendly and theyve provided us with sound, common sense health care recommendations for our pets on multiple occasions. They really care. The convenience factor here is really important. Theyre open until 8pm and accept drop-ins until 7 without an appointment. Parking is free. If they need some lab time with your pet, you can grab a beverage and wifi at Solstice next door. Theres also something to be said for the aesthetic of the office. Theres a photo booth and the walls are lined with vintage family pet photos and thrift store paintings of cats and dogs. It balances a clean, modern atmosphere with a "my parents house" vibe, which makes it far more comfortable than most sterile vet environments.

Last year my cat was diagnosed with cancer and had to be put down. I was blown away by how caring and thoughtful the vets and staff were at the Urban Animal Capitol Hill location. (When we called ahead, they set up a separate room for us to give us privacy, and allowed us to pay in the room before the procedure so we didnt have to go out into the lobby. They also sent us a condolences card later which was so sweet). I adopted another cat a few months later and was thrilled to see that they were opening a downtown location, which is closer to me. My experiences at this new location have also been great. Ive been in twice s far and the vets and staff are super friendly, we are always quick in and out, and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend!

After learning all about the commercial remodel my company did for Urban Animal I decided to give them a try. I brought in my cat, Damsel, on a Saturday morning (convenient hours to fit around my schedule - awesome) to get a general checkup and her vaccinations updated. I checked her in online from home, and in the ten minutes it took to get from our apartment to Urban Animal they already had her records from my previous vet and took us straight back - no waiting. They were quick, answered all of my questions, and were very nice. They also charged less for two vaccinations and a checkup than my previous vet did for just a checkup. I highly recommend Urban Animal, it was a great experience (and the space is beautiful!). -Laura

SALT OF THE EARTH! They were all so wonderful and caring beyond any of my expectations. I couldnt believe they just saw walk-ins. My regular vet (who wouldnt accommodate me even though I was frantically needing help) referred me and they saw me right away. My old Westie was not doing well and when I brought her in they scooped her up and cared for her like she was their own dog, it was a really powerful display of how much people love animals. Sadly I needed to let her go, but they helped me do it with dignity and love and even though it was one of the saddest days of my life I will never forget how caring they were. When Im ready for a another dog I am absolutely bringing her here.
