I LOVE Dr. Hino. I have been seeing him for all my animals for 10 years at Rainier Vet. He is the primary vet there and I cant recommend him enough. Unfortunately this review is not about him. This last Monday there was a scheduling conflict and Dr. Hino was not available for my vet visit. Instead I got the dreaded Sue Moriyasu. Within 30 seconds I knew I should have rescheduled for Dr. Hino. She is condescending where Dr. Hino is warm. She tells you what you need to do vs. explaining it. When asked to explain why the dog needs an operation and what the alternatives are she acts impatiently and is in concise or through with her explanation. With Dr. Hino he is so long winded with his very through explanations you sort of have to help veer him off at the corner lest you stay there all afternoon, but more information is WAY better than a paltry bone of condescending commands. I felt like she thought me a moron. When she took my dog away to give it a vaccination my dog tried to doggy paddle away from her. When she returned she said, “Your dog doesn’t like me. She liked the techs in the back but she doesnt like me.” Funny I thought, that makes two of us. But that’s not the worst of it. I brought my kitten in because I thought he had a UTI. He didn’t but in the course of the visit we realized he was short some shots. He needed a rabies shot and a distemper shot. He’s an indoor Persian cat. She shot him up which looked to me like too much medicine. Dr. Hino usually gives smaller shots to puppies and kittens so as to not to overwhelm their system. She curtly says goodbye. I take the cat home, which is about 15 min away. I get him home and e starts emptying his bowels, throwing up, gibbering, and heavy panting. I call the vet and they tell me to come back down. I wrap my pooing kitten up in the most available towel at hand, which happens to be an Egyptian cotton Tommy Hilfiger bath towel. I get there, after running two red lights, bursting through the doors I squawk here is my cat he’s having an allergic reaction to the medicine you gave him. The brown haired assistant says “ok” and wanders back behind closed doors. I stand there and wait and no one comes out. Finally bang on the door and the blond assistant who had seen me before says “Oh we were just talking about you”. Uh, what happened to the lady who I told I had a dying cat in my arms, she just decided to go out to lunch? Finally my kitten is taken into the back. I wait in the lobby as time ticks on. Not knowing what is happening. Trying to brace myself for the worst. Sue Moriyasu comes out and very blandly says, “We gave him some antihistamine and steroids. He seems better now. It’s not uncommon for cats to have a bad reaction to a vaccine, especially the leukemia vaccine.”. The what?!? I ask myself. “Wait. “ I say. “He didn’t come in for a leukemia vaccine. Are you telling me you gave him the wrong shot?”. Glibly she says, “Yes, I did but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have had a reaction to the distemper shot as well. We don’t know if it was the leukemia shot or the rabies shot he reacted too” Wait wait wait! In shock I never got to ask her when she realized she gave my pet the wrong shot. Indoor cats don’t need leukemia shots. As a matter of fact one of, the many reasons my cats are indoors is because the leukemia shot is very hard on cats. They also say you have to test for FLV before giving the shot because uh there are bad side effects otherwise. She never apologized. She never looked remorseful or sorry. She acted robotic and largely annoyed I had taken more of her time. Then told me he would have to have special steroid treatments before all vaccinations incase it happens again. And of course now we have to go back for his distemper shot. She unkindly added there would be no charge for that shot. So the moral of this story is ONLY SEE DR. HINO. And avoid the brown haired nurse.

Rainier Vet was recommended by my landlord on Mercer Island, so I gave them a try when I first moved here. Rainier is conveniently located right off the 90 and 5 FWY, and although not in my neighborhood, a very easy drive. The whole place is VERY retro, but also very clean and well maintained, but youll feel like you went back in time 50 years, that said the care is all very modern and they do a great job. The staff ALWAYS greets me warmly, the only time they didnt they were on the phone and called me 5 minutes after I left to apologize for being distracted with an emergency and ask if I had any other questions. During my tenure with Rainier Vet our dogs had two teeth procedures under anesthesia, in both cases, they did a great job for less than the quoted price, and my dogs were up and about in no time. We were often asked if we wanted our usual doctor, but always just saw whoever was available rather than picking one person, so I can say for sure they have many great doctors, never met one my dogs and I didnt like. If you seek AMAZING care for your pets, from really wonderful people, at the best price in town then look no further than Rainier Veterinary! Im moving on to a new home, but Ill always remember the great care we got here... thank you to the whole team!

Our family have used Rainier Vet as our go-to primary vet for decades, with Dr. Cliff Heino as our go to doctor. The staff is caring and efficient and know their repeat clients by name. My mother has a Yorkie with pancreatitis, and all we have to do when she has an episode is walk in the door and theyd reach out and take her. They just knew what to do. They dont believe in overcharging for care, but in providing the best care for your pet. They used to do walk-in service, but recently changed it to appointments only. They were the sweetest and most compassionate staff we could ask for when we finally had to put our Chow down due to liver failure at 12, allowing us to remain as long as we liked afterwards. We recently adopted a new Chow mix and know that we will be taking her to them, even if they are 20miles away from us now. Its worth the time, distance and our new dogs quality of care to go there.

The most pet friendly and pet owner friendly staff. Super knowledgeable and empathetic people working here. They offer a full variety of services from basic check ups to vaccinations and even your end stage care for your furry loved one. Best part is they always give you their undivided attention and will help give you the best options for your pets health. They are modestly priced but the views of care and service provided out weigh the cost. Oh one more hidden bit of awesomeness in services; they offer boarding services for your pet if you are going to be away on vacation!!! They are very affordable plus they give your pet round the clock care as needed!!! Make an appointment a few weeks before your trip as the room fills up fast. Going here for your pets health care is the best option in town.
