In February, I came home to find my cat drooling excessively and a large damp stain on the bed spread (it was urine). I also noticed a pack of Goodys headache powders (mixture of acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine) on the floor. This combination can be extremely harmful to cats. Concerned, my boyfriend and I took him to Broadway Veterinary Hospital. It was convenient since it was a block a way from our flat. When I got there, the front desk person was rude and seemed annoyed. I finally met with the veterinary, she barely let me explain my concern. She expressed no interest and appeared to want to get us out immediately. It wasnt until I mentioned the acetaminophen portion that her attention perked. They took him to do a blood test in another room where we werent allowed. We started to hear our cat freaking out - yelling and shrieking, items crashing to the floor, and people yelling "Get her! Get her!" (My cats a boy, a fact we kept having to correct with the vet in our initial meeting. This was the first of many times they referred my cat as a "her" and a clear sign that they werent listening) We became extremely suspicious of the fact that professional veterinarians and their assistants couldnt handle an 8lb cat. When they came back into the room, we were waiting nervously after hearing the "chase". They asked if they could sedate him because they were still unable to hold him down and take blood (I had a vet in Chicago and Barcelona, Spain administer shots to him without any trouble). At that point we really had no choice but to say ok, still thinking why on earth cant these people handle a little cat? After they did some blood work a new doctor came in and said--and I remember this verbatim, because of how ridiculous it was--that "even though we found no signs of any of these ingredients in her system, we are positive that she got into the powder." (Again, our cat is a male). I said "hows that?" to which they responded with a one of many long, convoluted, indirect answers. Upset, I began crying and they were taking advantage off that. They were trying to really milk this into as much money as they could. But, upset and crying, I felt like I had no choice. They would say, many times, things like "he WILL die soon unless we do X Y and Z", and "oh my god! Ive never heard of this stuff but this will kill him quickly unless we do something!" I understood that this could potentially be very serious, but he showed no symptoms and tests were negative, so why go on and on and tell us hes going to die?!? So unprofessional. At some point, we a third doctor took over our case as the second one was leaving (it was like the changing of the guards) and this doctor brought out a text book. ?!?! She used the textbook to look up side effects and symptoms, (also kept calling him "her" after we corrected her many times). She said that our cat would be in the clear if he seems good after 12 hours..then it changed to 24 hours...eventually she ended with a recommended 72 hours. ?!?! They said that we should then take "her" to another affiliated hospital and do more tests and overnight stays, which would cost anywhere between $2000 and $4000. We said well, lets keep him here overnight check on him in the morning. So far, the service totaled to $600 and they promised that we would receive a call the following morning at 7:00AM. We did not. Instead, we ended up calling them at 7:30AM and they informed us he still did not exhibit any symptoms and they STILL wanted to keep him an extra day. At this point, we decided to get our cat back (to which they passively aggressively warned us against). When we picked him up and brought him home, he had DRIED POOP on his leg and on his stomach. My boyfriend stormed back and demanded to know why our cat was smothered in his own feces and why it had not be cleaned. The vet responded, "oh, Im so sorry. Sometimes this happens..." ?!?! Our cat is fine and we ended up paying $600 for our cat to be covered in his own feces. Bottomline, DO NOT SEND YOUR PET HERE.

I choose this clinic because I thought being a 24/7 clinic meant specialists were on staff. My cat had a blocked urethra, and he came home after a three night stay bleeding. After a week, we returned. They did unnecessary exploratory surgery. My cat was clearly in ongoing pain, I was told it was my own head. He was peeing blood everywhere. Dr. McWilliams said I was a "bad match" for my cat and offered to keep him for a week. During that week, I assumed he would observe and treat my cats medical symptoms and stop blaming them on my imagination. He did not. He simply kept him caged, and when I responded with alarm after finding out at the end of that week (I called daily and was assured tests were being run) he reassured me everything could be fixed with a PU surgery. A PU surgery is only appropriate for a cat with repeated blocks -- not one block that a vet screws up. The PU surgery site then became infected. Again, he blew me off -sent the cat home in a restraining cone, no meds, no pain killers saying it wasnt an infection, just irritation from overgrooming. The infection was so severe you could smell it. With the cone on, he couldnt clean off the pus so you could see it, too. At that point we went to Blue Pearl Veterinary who fixed up the surgery site infection, assessed the situation with a diagnostic ultrasound (rather than an exploratory surgery as was performed TWICE at Broadway) and sent us home with the correct antibiotics and pain meds. His behavior changed immediately -- I was not "imagining" his pain. However, due to the PU surgery, my cat now has recurrent UTIs (5 in the past 18 months), and the bacteria is now resistant to most antibiotics. All this because I was too stupid to go to Blue Pearl in the first place. Do not take your cat with bladder or urinary blocks to this place. Please. PS -- Dr. McWilliams made transgender jokes about the PU surgery. Thats like saying a man who loses his penis in an accident or from cancer is now a woman. Not scientifically or politically correct. He also said he hoped I would abandon my cat to him to keep as an office cat he could use as a blood donor. PPS -- Get Trupanion Insurance.

Best support I have been able to find in over 4 years of living in the Seattle area. Taking my medium-sized dog to the vet has progressively become a stressful and frustrating ordeal. The 4 different veterinary offices I have tried over the years have given my dog such terrible anxiety and fear about being at the vets office. The Broadway Vet Hospital was prepared, experienced, and knowledgeable about dealing with such issues. The doctor and other staff treated both my dog and I with respect and individual consideration. The pricing was very reasonable for the expertise I received. I have paid more money to vets who didnt even really examine my dog and consequently were not able to cure our problems. BVH did a reasonable examination, they did not try to hustle me into the most expensive course of action for my dogs health issue, and they provided me with helpful advice and referrals. They also took extensive notes and asked about our previous vet in order to obtain old health records. If you are tired of feeling like you are just a number and a dollar sign $$, instead of a person with a sick loved-one, I recommend this veterinary hospital.
